Bruce
Trump and his hideous family have done plenty of terrible things, there is no need to invent more

I agree up to a point but... it is hardly patriotic to be holding a massive rally with supporters on the day that the new President is being certified in. And watching it on screens whilst preparing to go and fire up that crowd. So whilst it wasn't when the Capitol was being stormed, just the idea of partying at that point in time is pretty repulsive. The vote count was similar to when Trump got in... imagine Hillary, Bill, Chelsea and hangers on doing the same. Unthinkable.

I think we've become so inured to his lows, we're a bit immune. Not directing this at you Bruce, just in general.

Frank was the one who died?

BlueCatRedCat · 09/01/2021 10:57

Frank Jr died. He was the eldest son, but not the eldest child (she's the Trump who became a judge).

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/01/2021 10:58

I’m surprised that none of them seem to have changes their name back to the original one.

buttery81 · 09/01/2021 10:58

I think your assessment of Mary is unfair.

@BlueCatRedCat Sounds like it! I take it back. Btw I think Donald’s dad and older brother were called Fred, not Frank.

Isn’t Donald a teetotaler because his older brother Fred died of alcoholism? Sure I read that somewhere.

Trump's father was arrested for taking part in a KKK March. Both him and Donald were prosecuted for deliberately stopping black Americans renting or buying their properties.

God that’s appalling Sad

BlueCatRedCat · 09/01/2021 11:00

Oh god, you are right, FRED! Sorry for the confusion!

RedToothBrush · 09/01/2021 11:01

@piddocktrumperiness

Do you think he'll play the insanity card? He's got many cases against him and I worry that he'll cop out and not face his actions.
Trump will do ANYTHING to get out of taking responsibility for his actions if he has to. If it becomes the only action he can take, he will suddenly develop dementia or something.

Trump's problem going forward if he does face legal action is about who will represent him. The very best lawyers will be very aware that defending Trump is going to be incredibly difficult, if not impossible. It might be a way to make a name for yourself as a loophole lawyer but that a risky strategy and not one thats attractive to someone who already has experience / a name for themselves. The only way someone with a name and reputation will take it on is as a retirement cheque and even then only at a very high price. Anyone taking on the case is likely to find themselves ostracised from the legal profession. Even Republican leaning lawyers are going to be reluctant to take this on. Its well known Trump is not easy to work for. The fact that Trump's previous lawyer Cohen ended up in jail and the expectation from Trump to defend him unquestioningly and potentially at personal risk, won't be attractive. Guilliani is doing this, and looks as mad as a box of frogs. Guilliani himself simply isn't up to the job. Even Trump is likely to be aware of this - afterall Guilliani hasn't had any success with the election challenges.

The insanity / health card is the most obvious (and tried and tested) way out of it. I think it might be hard to resist.

I also don't think its likely to work. Trump has made a point of getting doctors to prove how great his health is during his presidency. Thats a bit of a problem for such a defence.

BlueCatRedCat · 09/01/2021 11:04

Thatisnotmyusername I got the name wrong, as buttery81 has kindly pointed out, it is FRED Jr who died.

Isn’t Donald a teetotaler because his older brother Fred died of alcoholism? Sure I read that somewhere.

Yes, I have read this too.

Yohoheaveho · 09/01/2021 11:04

he has the ability and will to start a civil war
I agree but then again who will be the foot soldiers in this war, the people who stormed the capital at his behest are not people that he would willingly engage with directly, I don't think he could bring himself to be in the same room as such a lowly wretches
will he really be able to mobilise them when he is stripped of the trappings of his office and they realise that actually he despises poor people?

BlueCatRedCat · 09/01/2021 11:07

Hasn't Donald scuppered himself with this Grin

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/01/2021 11:08

Just as well he is teetotal - can you imagine him with a few whiskies in him?

cheezy · 09/01/2021 11:09

I also don't think its likely to work. Trump has made a point of getting doctors to prove how great his health is during his presidency. Thats a bit of a problem for such a defence.

Also, Trump reportedly sees illness as a weakness (possible origin of this in his mother’s many health issues that were ignored by his father who shared his views) so he’d have to be desperate to resort to a faked illness.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/01/2021 11:11

It makes you ponder all those jingoistic movies where the mob is attacking and there is just a handful of plucky men defending the citadel... (and they see off the mob). Capitol Hill has Fallen?

I’ve seen some really crazy theories on twitter (plots to handcuff and execute politicians...). If even 1% is true it’s bloody scary that people like that walk among us - and yes, the idiots here will attempt a copycat (as they always do because they haven’t realised we aren’t in the US). Shame they sold off the water cannons...

prettybird · 09/01/2021 11:12

...he will suddenly develop dementia or something.

Or some of his family - to keep their own power political ambitions alive - will admit that he has been suffering early stage dementia (either vascular or fronto-temporal or possibly Lewy Body) for some time Shock and therefore wasn't fully in control of his actions and that they therefore shouldn't be tainted by association with him Hmm

My mother developed early onset fronto-temporal dementia (triggered by a head injury) and I unfortunately Sad see so many similarities with Trump: the way he walks, juts his chin out, can't cope with slopes, a sluggishness in the way he moves; plus the deterioration in his speech patterns over the years, with a simplification in syntax and an over-use of simplistic hyperbole. Sad

Do a Guinness?

TooTrueToBeGood · 09/01/2021 11:14

Where does all this leave the Republican party now? It seems they have no option but to fully distance themself from the Trump brand/dynasty. The risk with that though is that his supporters may well break away from the GOP, especially if Trump were to establish his own political party. That would split the conservative vote leaving the Republican party with no chance of winning a majority in either house for the foreseeable future. If there is one thing worse than a two-party democracy, it's a one-party democracy as that isn't really democracy.

I think he might attempt to restyle himself as a kind of religious leader ....some sort of Billy Graham, but my best guess (fwiw) is that stripped of his office he will implode because he has nowhere to go and he won't be able to cope

TooTrueToBeGood · 09/01/2021 11:16

I don't think his ego would tolerate going down the senile/insane route.

Yohoheaveho · 09/01/2021 11:18

Prettybird
I'm very sorry to hear about your mother's illness:(
many others have made similar observations about Trump, notably TomJoseph on Twitter

Roussette · 09/01/2021 11:19

I just cannot imagine he will go down the ill health route. To him that is weakness... look at him when he got discharged from WR after Covid... they made a bloody film of it! The helicopter landing at the WH, him on the steps defiantly ripping off his mask. The strong man, the dear leader!
To even pretend he has dementia or ill health would be abhorrent to him I think.

The other option is for someone to step into Trump's shoes. Which is exactly what Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and the others were up to. Like it or not, the Republican base has never been so active and motivated. 75 million votes isn't something they will abandon lightly. Outside of Trump's odious persona and constant gaffs is a set of policies that the ultra right wing love to bits. They just need someone like Donald who can hoodwink ordinary Joes into thinking that that such policies represent them and are for them.

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

You don’t just rock up and enter the Capitol building... it’s like assuming you walk into Parliament or Buckingham palace off the street.
Yeah I wouldn't my company being run by someone who just follows a huge chanting crowd to see what they were doing and entered a state building just because the doors were open and every else did.

My ds hadn't been allowed to use the "well everyone/ Simon down the road/ my best friend did it" since he was about 6 Grin

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/01/2021 11:24

Everyone who has been tracked down was just there to have a nice day and were swept along/egged on by the Bad Men... funny that.
