Looks like there'll be no impeachment trial until after he leaves office (unless all 100 senators agree otherwise) per a memo issued by Cocaine Mitch.

Cant link to it but the memo was just retweeted by Nate Silver.

The point he misses when talking to other platforms/building his own is how they are accessed.

If Apple and Google won't add the apps to their store that's a big hit against him.

He can of course run a website/blog but that's a far less efficient/targeted tool with less immediate feedback.

I'm sure however there are platforms/tech outside the US that would be willing to "assist" him.

Interesting to see how many "American Patriots" are willing to sign up to "dark web" or Chinese/Russian/North Korean "tech" to protect US democracy Hmm

It's more cumbersome but still accessible.

Yes, but I'm not sure how much of a difference that will make when you probably need the Republican leadership on board to successfully convict anyway. It also means he'll almost certainly remain in office (although I get the sense that he's realised the jeopardy he's in and probably wont try anything else too outrageous).

I am fairly sure that the Republican leadership would happily have trump convicted if they could do so with out being seen to do so....

I dont see how that will happen. There are a handful who I think would impeach, and a few maybes, but unless Mitch gets on board it wont happen.

That said, I think there's some prospect he'll be up for it.

I'm not normally a tin-foil-hat sort of person, but I heard two theories tonight. One was that Trump had deliberately not called in the national guard and in fact had prevented them being called when asked for by Pelosi. I think I believe that one.

The second is that some (unknown and unnamed) people in authority went along with having little security, few police officers and no military deployed in DC despite knowing that Trump supporters would cause trouble, because they feared that military on the ground might actually support the rioters or even join in.

It seems very farfetched, but there must be some reason there wasn't as much security as there should have been.

The mayor put in the request for National Guard, which in Washington DC has to be approved by the Pentagon, days before the protest. I've read that a large force wasn't permitted because of the optics of having armed military in front of the Capitol. Notwithstanding that, some people are blaming the mayor for not getting help. But Pentagon are saying that it was the police who said they didn't need help. The same police who said they had everything under control. So it's at best incompetence and at worst they wanted to enable the attack on the Capitol.

@Zug2 - an easy mistake to make, think the same was done on this thread earlier. TBF, after all that’s gone on, it could have been totally true!

It’s like a constant “no - he can’t have done that” - and realising he did, with then a few things thrown in that you go “yep, no problem believing that happened”!

Trumpy tweeted from the official POTUS account and it was up for 10minutes before it was deleted. (DeRigeur showed a screenshot at 02.19) and then he tweeted from Team Trump his campaign account, again up 10 minutes before it was deleted.
So his avenues on Twitter are now limited or none.

He really has gone rogue hasn't he? I imagine Javanka are pretty pissed off with all of this, all of his actions have scuppered any chance of life as they wanted it. I believe they've moved out of their home in Washington, or about to. Apparently there were removal vans there.

And I wonder what Barron thinks of his Dad? (very random I know, but c'mon he's a teenager, he'll have views and they won't necessarily toe the family line)
Apart from a photoshoot Melania was doing whilst the Capitol was being stormed, she is nowhere to be seen. She hasn't tweeted from her official FLOTUS since 1st Jan. I wonder if her husband is trying to use it...
