I actually thought this was parody. But this guy actually wrote this shit. On New Year's Eve. I wonder whether it was after a discussion with Boris?

Mr Baines has since apologised and stood down as chairman of the Clwyd South Conservative Association. He wrote: ‘A&Es in Germany aren’t full of fat mums in pot noodle-stained leggings/ pjs taking their kids for a day out at A&E to harvest Facebook likes because their darling little snot-covered Asbo fell over. Happy New Year.’

I somehow get the feeling that he's a Mumsnetter? Hmm

Where you go if you've burnt your hand on the aga or twisted your ankle playing tennis.

Not to the Accident and Emergency department unless there are additional reasons such as other health conditions or the injuries are extensive.

A&E is for serious and life-threatening situations.

Not far off the mark

So things like pheasant attacks? Nannies going to France and having to self isolate? Top hats stuck up bumholes?

Actually, there's a significant gap in that poster. Where do you go with a suspected broken bone, for example? Or a very high fever that doesn't go down with ibuprofen and paracetamol? Even something above a minor burn?

Some things are between a bruise and severe bleeding.

Malin52 · 06/01/2021 19:39

@formerbabe

Do only the feckless layabouts of the underclass need emergency medical treatment or is there a secret middle class A&E that I don't know about?

Where you go if you've burnt your hand on the aga or twisted your ankle playing tennis.

Burn: (not aga related but dinner party related) treated adequately at home Twisted ankle: minor injuries unit.

Dear Lord, my post was a joke people.

Covine · 06/01/2021 20:23

Top hats up bumholes are not a joking matter!

Daphnise · 06/01/2021 20:53

The few times I have been unlucky enough to go to A & E mainly with elderly relatives, I would say that there were a certain number of people there fitting the much derided description this man gave. That is among some very ill people also there.

gottakeeponmovin · 06/01/2021 20:56

I must say I like a pot noodle

@Anycrispsleft

What an absolute cunt. I live in Germany. We pay 600 euros a month for health insurance, that's why our A&Es aren't overrun. Now that we have a pandemic on, levels of service in the German "health service" (it's private provision) has gone down to where the NHS is on its best day of the year. And him and his party are the reason for that.
You pay 7.2k a year privately on top of the german 4k+ per capita?

So 11k+ per capita vs the uks 3.5k ish?

I think if you spent an extra 7k in the uk you'd get pretty good service too.

Not sure most people could afford that though....

How exactly did you come up with those figures??? Pulled them out of your arse?

My FIL moved to Wrexham from Cobham entirely voluntarily. Wrexham, therefore, can't be that bad.

One thing for sure during Covid - fewer sports injuries clogging up AE on weekends. Mr Baines might comment on the need for more cricket and rugby (bet he doesn't like football).

With DC and DP getting sports injuries I have seen the overload of families - and also aggressive sports teams piling in to support their man (usually when they've only realized he's broken an ankle after several drinks). But also first time parents who are concerned about their babies, or single parents who can't leave other children at home.

It doesn't help that 111 refers many people to hospital when surgeries are shut down and that during Covid getting through to a GP can be difficult.

HTH1 · 08/01/2021 19:56

@Whatisthisfuckery

Miserable sod, doesn’t know what he’s missing. Every summer we do a tour of all the near by A&E departments. The kids end up in care every september after all the injuries I have to give them but it’s worth it for the facebook likes.

And they weren’t PJs, it was lounge wear, and it wasn’t pot noodle on the leg, it was spag bole.
