I actually thought this was parody. But this guy actually wrote this shit. On New Year's Eve. I wonder whether it was after a discussion with Boris?

Mr Baines has since apologised and stood down as chairman of the Clwyd South Conservative Association. He wrote: ‘A&Es in Germany aren’t full of fat mums in pot noodle-stained leggings/ pjs taking their kids for a day out at A&E to harvest Facebook likes because their darling little snot-covered Asbo fell over. Happy New Year.’

I somehow get the feeling that he's a Mumsnetter? Hmm

I'm not remotely offended but I do think it's worth pointing and laughing at him for being a massive twat.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 05/01/2021 20:01

What the guy wrote was deeply offensive. Unfortunately, there is a grain of truth in saying A&E isn't - or shouldnt be - a day out.

Covid has reduced family attendance at A&E. This isn't wholly a good thing, and I'd far rather have a few time wasters if it means the people who really need assessment can be seen. The greater risk currently is of people who should be going to A&E being too frightened to attend.

I'd like to see a reset. If more than one adult is at A&E with more than one child, the second (or third/fourth) adult should be taking the other children home.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/01/2021 20:03

Styles himself "Dr" but according to the article "claims to have an honorary doctorate in business administration"

Says it all.

Lweji · 05/01/2021 20:05

His mum probably didn't take him to A&E when he fell on his head, hence...

I can go on.

Scbchl · 05/01/2021 20:05

I quite like him 😂

Hatstrategicallydipped · 05/01/2021 20:07

I have never in all my years (many) heard of a family planning a trip to A&E as opposed to perhaps a trip to the beach or to the zoo or something. The suggestion seems to be that British people actually enjoy a trip to A&E? Furthermore the suggestion is that such people (let's assume they exist) are overweight, are rearing delinquent children, exist on pot noodles, have poor hygiene and feed their children shite.

OP posts:
FireUnderpants · 05/01/2021 20:07

I don't think he's wrong tbh. Although in my experience half the family turns up with several large McDonald's bags as they didn't have time to eat their pot noodle at home.

Lweji · 05/01/2021 20:08

He wish.

Honorary doctorates are awarded to outstanding contributors to a field.
Not your every day low achiever Tory.

MessAllOver · 05/01/2021 20:09

@Hatstrategicallydipped. Yes, it must be me Blush. The volunteer-run cafe is now my morning hangout of choice, especially with everywhere else shut. I do wear leggings but haven't eaten a pot noodle since I was about 22... I'll have to rediscover them.

Tbh, I really hadn't thought of sharing the fun with my little 2 yo ASBO, but he's right, it is inspired! With soft play shut and playgrounds rammed, where better to hang out than in our local hospital? DS can have fun climbing on the chairs, using up the hand sanitiser and scootering down the corridors, while I tuck my overweight belly into my leggings and munch my Pot Noodles.

Hatstrategicallydipped · 05/01/2021 20:09

Well we know how the Tories got the majority now don't we!!

His mask just slipped. This is what all Conservatives think. Some of the stuff Johnson has said in the past is no different:

"children of single mothers are 'ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate' etc...

Ben Bradley suggesting the unemployed should get vasectomies.....

They're all the same. Dress it up in a top hat like Rees-Mogg, but cnuts who despise ordinary people. All of them.

XelaM · 05/01/2021 20:09

I love this thread Grin

Hardbackwriter · 05/01/2021 20:11

You definitely do get people who treat hospital as a day out. I remember sitting in the waiting room for Early Pregnancy Unit, miscarrying, and being quite upset that one of the other patients had brought five adults with her - they were passing food around, laughing, joking, it felt like they might get out a boom box out next and have a dance... I totally understand why you'd want to have someone with you, there aren't really any good reasons to be at EPU, but six people?!

Hatstrategicallydipped · 05/01/2021 20:12

As I said - MNers think like him.

I'm not fit to lick the shoes of a MNer.

Covine · 05/01/2021 20:12

@MessAllOver pot noodles are a shadow of what they were now that they've taken out all the salt and e numbers. You need a load of soy sauce and grated cheese to get the old style hit.

LoadsOfTrouble · 05/01/2021 20:15

Just to say, I'm German and of course the comparison is bollocks.

Hatstrategicallydipped · 05/01/2021 20:15

I shall hithertofore refer to my delinquents as my ASBOs.

'Hey Asbo I - get the fuck up'

'Hey Asbo II - do you think me electric is funded by the Tories?'

OP posts:
Covine · 05/01/2021 20:16

@LoadsOfTrouble aha a field report. Thank you.

Do you have pot noodles and if so do they still have salt and e numbers?

MessAllOver · 05/01/2021 20:17

@Covine. Thanks for the tip. I might take some Krispy Kremes as well though... I always think you need at least two courses for a decent lunch out Wink.

The toddler prefers KFC and a tub of jaffa cakes for pud, washed down with a can of Fanta, so we'll pick that up on the way.

Tootsey11 · 05/01/2021 20:17

Dp's family are like this. When one of them ends up in a and e, they all contact each other, then 4 car loads of them turn up. One time there was 15 of them in the waiting room for the one patient.

MistleTOEboughski · 05/01/2021 20:17

@Hatstrategicallydipped

But you are a MNer now yourself.

Hatstrategicallydipped · 05/01/2021 20:18

I have great hopes for my ASBOs. They actually wash themselves. Once a week when prompted, but they do it eventually. It's as much as I can hope for, rearing what I am.

OP posts:
Covine · 05/01/2021 20:18

@MessAllOver I hope you make her eat her main before she has pudding.

Standards!

Never really fit in Wink

I'll find my people.

At A&E.

Haha @Hardbackwriter I had exactly the same experience. He was given steroids in the ambulance (the out of hours GP we called initially listened to his breathing over the phone and insisted on sending one, before a Tory councillor accuses me of organising a night out on the taxpayer), so by the time we got to A&E he was completely fine and having a GREAT middle of the night adventure. One of the younger doctors commented "oh, it's so refreshing to see a happy child here, this is the cheeriest child with croup I've ever seen!" while everyone else just glared at me. I was counting down the two hoursBlush
