I actually thought this was parody. But this guy actually wrote this shit. On New Year's Eve. I wonder whether it was after a discussion with Boris?

Mr Baines has since apologised and stood down as chairman of the Clwyd South Conservative Association. He wrote: ‘A&Es in Germany aren’t full of fat mums in pot noodle-stained leggings/ pjs taking their kids for a day out at A&E to harvest Facebook likes because their darling little snot-covered Asbo fell over. Happy New Year.’

I somehow get the feeling that he's a Mumsnetter? Hmm

Thing is it’s not really like people invent stereotypes off the top of their heads. They are all based on real lives experience. Maybe enhanced for comedic effect but I think a lot of people will have seen exactly this family in their local walk in medical service location of choice. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to A&E/walk-in centre and I can absolutely visualise exactly who he means from those few visits. One parent with one kid who might be getting better is generally at least attempting to encourage them to sit or play quietly not ignoring a family game of tag involving hanging off the counters and smacking the vending machine.

mam0918 · 05/01/2021 21:11

@formerbabe

Last time I went to a&e, I looked like shit. I was in the middle of deep cleaning the house! Perhaps I should have left my child bleeding whilst I dressed up a bit
good point, last time I was at hospital in person it was for an allergic reaction that had caused excrutiating muscle contractions at 11pm, I threw on a tatty old oversized cardgan from the washing basket by the back door as I crawled out the house (because I couldnt even physically stand) and had leggings + vest on that I normally sleep in.

If only I had had the presence of mind to dress up more for the emergancy room then I suppose would be garanteed my kids would turn out good uns... guess they're doomed now.

thosetalesofunexpected · 05/01/2021 21:12

What do you expert he is a Tory stalwart..
(They a lot of them usaul subjectd live on a different planet in regard life style/status etc.

Reminds me of that remark a Tescos manager said of mums from a district from Cardiff,
When he said mothers from that area majority were slobs walking in with their slippers and PJ s he either wanted/thinking to ban them or had banned any mums turning up like that,
Such a long time I can't rember whats what.

user686833 · 05/01/2021 21:16

He's an absolute scumbag twat.

...But it would be interesting to hear from a children's A&E nurse the difference only one carer attending with a child has made to A&E, and I hope changes are made going forward. One of my children has a chronic health condition which means I've spent a LOT of hours in children's A&E, and the only times I didn't see huge families together with several children and one going off for McDonald's takeaway for all, has been since Covid. It's always really pissed me off that entire families with several bored siblings making noise, chaos and spreading germs are allowed. It is completely unnecessary and makes the whole experience more stressful than it needs to be.

words fail me

Mysterian · 05/01/2021 21:26

Probably resigned after realising he should have capitalised "Pot Noodle".

@user686833 I disagree I also have a child with chronic health conditions she attends a&e on average 3 times a month minimum. I find it very lonely and daunting being on my own there.
Pandemic yes I agree with one parent but not other times.

BertieBotts · 05/01/2021 21:35

I've been to German A&E a few times.

The children's one is usually a totally separate building but also you can take your child to the paediatrician pretty 9-5 Monday-Friday for anything so there is less of a need to use A&E.

But there are also waiting rooms where you feel like you're in purgatory and you'll be there for several years. It's really not that different to the UK. The main difference is it's not chronically underfunded. You don't tend to see ambulances queueing.

Notanotheruser111 · 05/01/2021 21:44

There are definitely families or groups of people that do this everywhere. Im in aus happens here to. What's shitty about the comment is its directed once again at mums.

Robbybobtail · 05/01/2021 21:50

The one time I took my dd to A&E I was wearing my pyjamas. They were blood stained though - s’spose it could’ve been mistaken for the beef pot noodle juice..

Lockheart · 05/01/2021 22:06

Paints quite a picture doesn't he.

Leannethom85 · 05/01/2021 22:12

As opposed to the children of the tories dumped in a boarding school never to see mother or father for months at a time, mummy to busy on holiday with the toy boy as daddy is a rich old boring fart...

These people have no idea how the working class live, if they assume we all eat pot noodles in our primark leggings, then they so far out of touch.

jcyclops · 05/01/2021 22:16

...but A&Es in Germany aren’t full of fat mums in pot noodle-stained leggings taking their kids for a day out - they're full of Germans.

user686833 · 05/01/2021 22:22

@Whattheactual20201 I'm not completely against two parents in attendance, or one parent and one friend or grandparent. I always have to go on my own because we have other DC at home, and I could often really do with someone on hand so I don't starve/dehydrate/can go to the toilet. I'm talking about families with both parents and siblings in tow, and even worse, siblings and grandparent and auntie etc Two should be the maximum, and even then, that should be reduced to one when the waiting room is very busy and there aren't enough seats. I also just having to sit next to vomiting kids, if there weren't so many extra bodies in A&E there would be less spread of viruses.

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/01/2021 22:25

Sorry but I thought it was parody too as it is so extreme and bizarre.
I have to admit I laughed out loud at it.
Didn’t some other Tory call U.K. public “less intelligent than potted plants” ?
They come up with some really funny things.

@Ritasueandbobtoo9

His area A&E is Wrexham. It’s an industrial ex mining area in Wrexham itself. Wrexham children’s A&E was filmed for BBC Wales. You see the odd person in Tesco’s in PJ’s and it has a few areas of deprivation, a bit of a drugs problem but actually pretty nice and lovely place so he can do one.
I had to go to Wrexham Maelor once, did not see one pot noodle stained child or adult, but the woman in charge who organised the endoscopy I was there for was an absolute cow to all the patients waiting their turn, moaning that there were too many of us and she was going to send some of us home. I stood my ground with my consultants notes pointing out how long I had waited for the procedure. Perhaps this unpleasant woman had been complaining to this strange man.

Wrexham is a mixed bag economically but when working there I have found the people lovely.

tempester28 · 05/01/2021 22:42

Yes he needs to resign - he has no respect for any women I would assume.

Lollyneenah · 05/01/2021 22:43

If you could all be dears and pop your lipstick on before attending a and e then that would make my job much more rewarding. Nothing more stomach churning than an unbecoming womam

Covine · 05/01/2021 22:51

The biggest problem with The Poor is that they're v unattractive it's true.

Not like those boyband hunks Rees-Mogg, Gove and the like. Phwoar.

Whatisthisfuckery · 05/01/2021 23:00

Miserable sod, doesn’t know what he’s missing. Every summer we do a tour of all the near by A&E departments. The kids end up in care every september after all the injuries I have to give them but it’s worth it for the facebook likes.

And they weren’t PJs, it was lounge wear, and it wasn’t pot noodle on the leg, it was spag bole.
