To enjoy a secret McDonald's

Some times when I go to do the weekly shop, I'll stop and have a McDonald's on the way home. I sit in my car and listen to my audiobook whilst enjoying some chips or whatever.

We actually only live a few minutes away from this McDonald's so I technically could get everyone one, DH and the kids and take it home. But I don't mention it! 😂 I like the 20 mins to myself before going back. I know DH would probably think I was a right selfish cow if he knew, he likes a McDonald's every now and then and the kids well... Obviously they would.

Am I the worst wife and mother ever?

I can just picture it now.

I do something similar when my DD is at drama. Go and have a vegan rocky road and vegan hot chocolate in Costa. I look forward to it all week.

YANBU. The big tasty is back! Can't drive past a McDonald's without getting one.

As an aside, you can tell it's veganuary going by the comments!

It so is! I don't know why. Maybe something to do with squabbling kids in the back seat taking 20 minutes to decide what they want and then choosing a burger but without various different things on it making it a fucking nightmare to order, or DH moaning about something like there being too much lettuce, fries a bit cold or so on.... Maybe 🙃

I will continue to enjoy my secret McDonald's then guilt free with the approval of MN

I do this but also don’t have a partner or kids. Just like a secret drive through Maccas so can have a sneaky snack in the car whilst scrolling through my phone

Oh I absolutely do this but for breakfast when I've dropped the kids at school. Sometimes I drop one in to DH at work as well. Wife of The Year material that. Of course sometimes I eat it in the car park soooo...

Why does a McDonald's meal always taste better in a car?

Drive thru food always seems to be hotter and fresher. Or maybe the paper bags are magic?

I’ve not had a KFC in ages and I don’t think I’ve ever had a drive thru one. I always assumed they’d be too messy for car food. There is a branch next to my local Aldi, so maybe I’ll have to get held up during my next shopping trip...

Oo yes. Although DH may begin to question why I'm going "shopping" in my dressing gown so much recently.

I do this too! Usually after a long shift at work when I need something there and then and it's much nicer to decompress in the car, with a tasty meal and coffee, rather than go all the way home and have to make something for myself. Plus I live with people, so sometimes I really can't be arsed to make small talk when I just want some me time. There have times I've been so thankful for the chance to just have a breather and be completely indulgent.

It's one of the things I really enjoyed about being able to drive when I first passed as well, felt really grown up for some reason.

I have also on occasion treated myself to a maccies breakfast after a run! It's a really nice reward...

There's nothing wrong with it, so don't feel guilty! Just make sure it's a occasional treat, I can tell when I have had too many as I feel over saturated, the feelgood factor only works when you have a balanced diet most of the time.

Not unreasonable to have a bit of quiet time to yourself. I’d take my partner and kids something back though. We do most of our food shopping online but if anyone goes out they often bring something home for everyone.

Yes I can see that there is a difference between eating it at every meal versus occasionally: It kills you slower.
But by all means, it’s your body, so your choice. Not trying to evangelise anyone here. Just expressing a different viewpoint.

Out come the killjoys, as per usual. None of us can live forever you know, but some of us like to have the odd indulgence on our journey through life. What is wrong with people that they must pile onto a lighthearted post and lecture us all on the evils of something, which is actually perfectly normal food? If they stopped at one post it might just be tolerable, but no, they go on and on with their superior babbling. You don't like Maccas, we get it - end of.
