To enjoy a secret McDonald's

220 replies

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 11:29

Some times when I go to do the weekly shop, I'll stop and have a McDonald's on the way home. I sit in my car and listen to my audiobook whilst enjoying some chips or whatever.

We actually only live a few minutes away from this McDonald's so I technically could get everyone one, DH and the kids and take it home. But I don't mention it! 😂 I like the 20 mins to myself before going back. I know DH would probably think I was a right selfish cow if he knew, he likes a McDonald's every now and then and the kids well... Obviously they would.

Am I the worst wife and mother ever? Grin

I don't need a sneaky big Mac, large fries and a coke as I have unlimited access to the fruit bowl GrinGrinGrin

YANBU

Pre-COVID, when I was the only one in the office I used to get a KFC for lunch, and my daily walk somehow always seems to go past Costa.

Gobbycop · 05/01/2021 14:37

He's probably doing the same 😂

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/01/2021 14:39

@IceIceBebe

YABU to put “enjoy” and “MacDonalds” in same sentence.That stuff is not food

Don't be daft, of course its food. Why do people come out with that rubbish? Educate yourself.
And don't tell other people what they enjoy Hmm

I think in this case I am the one who is better educated on the dangers of MacDonalds rather than you. Only the blissfully ignorant would think it’s food worth eating much less enjoying. Just a google of “dangers of fast food” will show you how it increases risk of obesity, cancer, diabetes, premature sudden death, heart attack, stroke, etc.
shinynewapple2021 · 05/01/2021 14:46

I have a better idea . Get a coffee or cold drink and take your 20 mins relaxing in your car .

Now go back round the drive in and get one for everyone - saves you having to cook .

Double win !

Staffy1 · 05/01/2021 14:48

Why not? On the rare occasion i suggest McDonald's, which I love, I'm given the look by DH. Wish I had thought to do this.

Can you not see that there may be a difference between eating fast food every meal than an occasional treat ?

Clearly not, since you think it isn't food. Care to explain what you think it is then? Chicken nuggets...100% irish chicken breast with a coating of wheat flour. breadcrumbs, semolina , vegetable oil natural flavourings, salt, pepper, celery, dried glucose syrup and raising agents.
Care to tell us what is not food there?

Try googleing dangers of fast food again and get your tiny mind around the fact that, as a rare ingredient in an otherwise healthy balanced diet, fast food is not at all dangerous and does not cause obesity, strokes etc. And also try to understand that "fast food" can cover a million different things, some far less healthy than others.

Then have a cheeseburger and stop being an uneducated fun sponge.

quicknamechange100 · 05/01/2021 14:57

Clearly YANBU. Maccies is the one.

listsandbudgets · 05/01/2021 14:59

No different to sneaking into a cafe for coffee and cake. Its fine OP - as long as you're not having it for breakfast, lunch and dinner you can keep your sneaky McDs

Yes I can see that there is a difference between eating it at every meal versus occasionally: It kills you slower.
But by all means, it’s your body, so your choice. Not trying to evangelise anyone here. Just expressing a different viewpoint.

tenredthings · 05/01/2021 15:01

Why do I suspect this has been posted by the advertising dept. Of Mcdos ?

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/01/2021 15:06

DD would smell it on me, guaranteed.

And no, it's not food. But then I also drink wine and that's not food either. You won't live longer if you never do anything 'wrong' it just feels like it.

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/01/2021 15:07

@IceIceBebe
Very kind of you to offer me a cheeseburger, perhaps you should eat that cheeseburger (or better yet a dozen) on my behalf? And so sorry, but my “tiny brain” is telling me I should listen to actual doctors and nutritionists instead of a MN random on the internet.

legalseagull · 05/01/2021 15:08

YABU

... because you're missing a trick. Enjoy your secret chips in peace THEN - get a drive through for DH and the kids and look like a bloody hero for bringing home a great

EveryoneOutsideNow · 05/01/2021 15:09

I’ve just done this with a KFC Grin I’ve spent 3 hours helping a relative take down their Christmas decorations so thought I’d have half an hour sat in the car eating dinner before going back home Wink

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 15:09

And so sorry, but my “tiny brain” is telling me I should listen to actual doctors and nutritionists instead of a MN random on the internet

You should. Actual drs and nutritionists also love a sneaky McDonalds and will tell you exactly as I did: that it is food and as an occasional treat is not even slightly harmful.

B33Fr33 · 05/01/2021 15:09

You'd do better to stuff your face with a cream cake even. So yabu

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 15:10

And no, it's not food. But then I also drink wine and that's not food either

It is food. What is this continual assertion that food is not food? What do you think it is? Or are people confused about the definition of food? Wine is not a food, you have got that much correct.

steppemum · 05/01/2021 15:11

@IceIceBebe

I've never heard of a McD's not taking cash. What country is it?
post covid, none of ours are taking cash, card only.
formerbabe · 05/01/2021 15:12

McDonald's sells food. You might not think it's nutritionally worthy but it's definitely food.

ThundercloudYouBastard · 05/01/2021 15:12

Of course it's food Confused. Food of low nutritional value, considering the calories obviously, but I truly cannot believe anyone is arguing that it is not food. Weird.

HildegardNightingale · 05/01/2021 15:17

I want a McDonalds now!!

QuestionableMouse · 05/01/2021 15:18

@PlanDeRaccordement

YABU to put “enjoy” and “MacDonalds” in same sentence. That stuff is not food.
@PlanDeRaccordement

Please can you tell me exactly what's not food?

The fries are made by McCain. If you've ever eaten frozen chips, it's the same product.

The burgers are pure beef with a bit of salt and pepper.

The chicken is 100% chicken breast in batter.

Here's the ingredients for a big mac. Can you please tell me what isn't food?

I'll wait.

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 15:21

Food of low nutritional value, considering the calories obviously, but I truly cannot believe anyone is arguing that it is not food. Weird

It's not even of particularly low nutritional value, depending on your choices. I think some people are confused and think European McDs is the same as US, it isn't, it's far superior. And over the years they have made lots of changes to make the food higher quality and healthier, reducing salt and sugar, improving meat quality etc.

I would avoid the fries and milkshakes as being some of the worst on the menu, but the rest...meh, it's fine. Dr approved. Grin
