To enjoy a secret McDonald's

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 11:29

Some times when I go to do the weekly shop, I'll stop and have a McDonald's on the way home. I sit in my car and listen to my audiobook whilst enjoying some chips or whatever.

We actually only live a few minutes away from this McDonald's so I technically could get everyone one, DH and the kids and take it home. But I don't mention it! 😂 I like the 20 mins to myself before going back. I know DH would probably think I was a right selfish cow if he knew, he likes a McDonald's every now and then and the kids well... Obviously they would.

Am I the worst wife and mother ever? Grin

I used to do this at uni when I was having a down day. It worked miracles!

I must do it again soon!

QuestionableMouse · 05/01/2021 15:21

All McDonald's should be taking cash but you have to order through the touch screens. There's an option at the end to send your order to the till where it can be recalled and you can pay in cash.

Actually, might only be company stores (franchise stores have more freedom) but if it's a company store is should absolutely be taking cash.

Pawpatrollers2021 · 05/01/2021 15:24

I do the same - large fries and small coke! Bliss! I'm always bitterly disappointed by their burgers but their fries cannot be beaten!

Sn0tnose · 05/01/2021 15:25

Once a month I used to go into a local town to do all of my errands simply because they had a branch of Wimpy. Nothing nicer than 40 minutes of total peace to enjoy a wimpy & chips or a brown derby, and I don’t even have children!

BananaSmoothie20 · 05/01/2021 15:26

I do this too don't feel guilty about it one bit. Often I sit in the car park with my McDonald's and look at the car either side of me and will see someone else doing the same thing 😂 the way I see it is if we're braving the shops in this current climate this is a small reward for a job well done 😁

Bookworming · 05/01/2021 15:28

Yes I can see that there is a difference between eating it at every meal versus occasionally: It kills you slower.
But by all means, it’s your body, so your choice. Not trying to evangelise anyone here. Just expressing a different viewpoint.

Dear god!! The fucking sanctimony!

No one needs you lecturing them @PlanDeRaccordement

A lot of things can kill you!

And who wants to live until their 110 and be a boring fart!

jessstan1 · 05/01/2021 15:30

What is selfish about buying yourself something to eat while you are out doing 'jobs' on your own? I imagine most people do that or, in normal times, go to a coffee shop or similar. I always did and never felt the need to hide it from my husband. I felt more hungry when I was out and about and thoroughly enjoyed it.

QuestionableMouse · 05/01/2021 15:30

Still waiting for @PlanDeRaccordement to tell us how it isn't food...

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/01/2021 15:34

It’s not food to me the same way a roasted spider with a dessert of chocolate dipped grasshoppers probably aren’t food to you.

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 15:38

That has no basis in reality though. Are potatoes food to you? Is chicken? Is beef? Is bread? Because McDs food is chicken and bread and potatoes and beef. If you realise beef and bread is food, then you also know that a hamburger is food.

nevernotstruggling · 05/01/2021 15:38

I do this too. Every day for a week when I was on sick leave before Xmas.
I think it's the instant hot food that's a fiver. That's a big treat for me.

HayJkl · 05/01/2021 15:38

Nice!!!!!

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 15:39

A lot of things can kill you!

yes, but the odd McD's is not actually one of them.

What do you mean “no basis in reality”? I am guessing you didn’t know about roasted spiders and chocolate dipped grasshoppers....

What is food or not food is mostly a social construct. It may be food to you, but it isn’t to me.

empod · 05/01/2021 15:43

I also do this, I then open the window to let any smell out.

Mousehole10 · 05/01/2021 15:43

I do this too. Currently sat in mcDonalds car park eating my takeaway whilst reading your post Grin

ThundercloudYouBastard · 05/01/2021 15:44

If you eat it for fuel, and / or nourishment, it's food. That includes grasshoppers.

earthyfire · 05/01/2021 15:44

I'd probably have the quiet time but I'd also take some home for the others. I wouldn't want to cook for everyone else after I'd eaten a McDonald's.

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 15:46

@Gobbycop

He's probably doing the same 😂
He better not be 😤 😂😂😂😂
OP posts:
mommydragon · 05/01/2021 15:46

Why have I never done this before? The amount of times I've dumped my plate in the sink after mindlessly scoffing up my food through countless interruptions. Food that sometimes takes me a couple of hours to cook. 😡

QuestionableMouse · 05/01/2021 15:46

Are you a politician because that's one of the best non answers I've ever seen.

Please provide facts to back up your statement. And don't include anything that is based on the US version of McDonald's because that's vastly different.

@PlanDeRaccordement

Bookworming · 05/01/2021 15:47

Well that's great, this is a post by the OP! So what you think is food is irrelevant!

HTH!

AgeLikeWine · 05/01/2021 15:47

YANBU, obviously.

I enjoyed a tasty McChicken sandwich for 99p yesterday, the deal popped up on the app. Socially-distanced drive-thru, obv.

Yes, I have the Maccies app on my phone and I’m not even ashamed.

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 15:47

What do you mean “no basis in reality”? I am guessing you didn’t know about roasted spiders and chocolate dipped grasshoppers

Of course I did. I've eaten candied scorpions. I said it had no basis in reality because we're not talking about exotic or little known foods, but every day foods in the UK.

What is food or not food is mostly a social construct. It may be food to you, but it isn’t to me

No, that is not at all true. Whether chicken is a food or not is not a social construct. You know that chicken is food, and you also know that chicken in a McD;s box is not suddenly "not food".

You pretend that it is not food because a) you have no idea about the nutritional value, you just have judged it to be a Bad Thing. and b) you like to feel morally superior and that you are above such things.

McDonalds IS food, and your opinion does not change that simple fact no matter how strongly you think it.

formerbabe · 05/01/2021 15:49

You can go to an expensive restaurant and have a steak sandwich or a burger for £15 with a portion of deep fried chips for an extra £6. Nutritionally is it any better for you than the McDonald's?
