To enjoy a secret McDonald's

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 11:29

Some times when I go to do the weekly shop, I'll stop and have a McDonald's on the way home. I sit in my car and listen to my audiobook whilst enjoying some chips or whatever.

We actually only live a few minutes away from this McDonald's so I technically could get everyone one, DH and the kids and take it home. But I don't mention it! 😂 I like the 20 mins to myself before going back. I know DH would probably think I was a right selfish cow if he knew, he likes a McDonald's every now and then and the kids well... Obviously they would.

Am I the worst wife and mother ever? Grin

McDonald's UK doesn't use factory farmed animals. They're all from British and Irish farms which is the same place most other meat comes from. 🙄🙄🙄
Taikoo · 05/01/2021 12:01

I really want a McDonald's now.

Demitri · 05/01/2021 12:02

I used to do this but I’m on a stupid diet now and miss it so much! Dc had sat morning club so I would drop them, drive to McDonald’s for breakfast and cappuccino, eat it in the local park (or just sit in the car if it was cold) and then freeze my ass driving with the windows wide open to pick them up. They were non the wiser. Good times 😂

alphasox · 05/01/2021 12:09

Why would you even worry about this? I often finish work 20 minutes early so I can go to drive through costa on the way to school then I sit in the car listening to a podcast with my lovely coffee and cake before my kids come out. It’s my little treat.

KipperTheFrog · 05/01/2021 12:11

I’ve considered this a few times driving home from work on a Sunday. There’s always a really long queue though which would annoy me. I’m sure my waistline thanks me!

TravellingSpoon · 05/01/2021 12:12

I do this about once a week on my way home from work. I have to drive passed the drive through on my way home at 10.30, and feel its a treat for working unsociably.

When I worked in the community I was always there Blush

lilbumblebee · 05/01/2021 12:15

I do this too except it's with Burger King. After I finish my shift, if it has been a horrendous day, I'll go to Burger King and then hide all the evidence before I go home 🙈

Miserableminge · 05/01/2021 12:18

When I could drive I used to do this, just to clear some head space and get a break from the kids and DH. I wish I could do it now, really need to clear my head, stupid epilepsy!

Oh get a grip
Lucieintheskye · 05/01/2021 12:55

I do that too, while DH is at work. I prepare his lunches and often do ours in advance (especially if we have the same as dinner the night before). Sometimes I just bung my portion in the freezer and drive to Subway and Starbucks or KFC and Costa while he eats salad or vegetable soup... Grin

I have also been known to say I spent longer doing a shop or visit or got held up at the hairdresser's but I'm really stopping for a happy meal Grin

Do click and collect and miss the DT queue 😁
BonnieDundee · 05/01/2021 12:58

Awww. Get them all one and take it home for everyone to enjoy

RecipeStealingBitch · 05/01/2021 13:05

YANBU at all!

Jeez, what is with the responses at the moment from the militant anti-meat brigade shoehorning their agenda in? This is about the third thread I've seen in the last few days where the conversation has been twisted. FWIW, McDonalds are better than many on the animal welfare front. And did you miss the bit where OP said she ate fries?

Anywhooo...YANBU to enjoy McDonalds. I don't eat from there often but it's bloody awesome.

Sparklesocks · 05/01/2021 13:10

The perfect crime

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 05/01/2021 13:11

The weekly shop is a chore and the mcds is your reward!

PattyPan · 05/01/2021 13:11

Yanbu OP, we all need that time to ourselves. My DP went into his office yesterday so we were apart for the first time in weeks and I got lunch from Deliveroo without him Blush

@QuestionableMouse you do know there are factory farms in the U.K.? Hmm this article is a few years old, but gives you an idea www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/17/uk-has-nearly-800-livestock-mega-farms-investigation-reveals

tuesday2am · 05/01/2021 13:19

I do this too occasionally. You just can’t beat McD’s chicken nuggets.

Your “me time” is important. Do whatever you need to. :)

Bagelsandbrie · 05/01/2021 13:21

I do this too!

lentilsforlunch · 05/01/2021 13:30

My DH used to do this (sometimes with our toddler), I found out eventually when they started calling it "daddy's cafe"

I'm perfectly aware of that. McDonald's only used meat from approved farms

mapmymcdonalds.co.uk/The-North-East/ingredient/beef

It honestly pisses me off that they get singled out every time as having crap food that's made from like torture and the tears of unicorns. It's no better or worse than the stuff you'd buy in Tesco or Iceland. In fact, I'd say it's better, because I don't have a clue where the chicken for tesco nuggets comes from. It's bloody tiresome now.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 05/01/2021 13:57

Perfectly reasonable but I'm surprised you've not been busted –I can smell it in the car for days after my partner's had one! (I'd have one too but their veggie offering is rank. I saw news about the McPlant burger last November but where is it?! Presumed it'd be released for veganuary. McDonalds, if you're reading, PLEASE I really want a dirty veggie burger!)

copernicium · 05/01/2021 14:02

Vegan so Costa but yes. At least monthly.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 05/01/2021 14:03

I’m amazed we’ve got this far without a ‘YABU to consider McDonald’s as food. Get some fresh prawns and crusty bread instead’ type comment.

QuestionableMouse · 05/01/2021 14:04

McDonald's is nowhere near back to normal, menu wise. There will be a plant based burger at some point but it most likely won't be this year, unless the covid situation resolves.
