To enjoy a secret McDonald's

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 11:29

Some times when I go to do the weekly shop, I'll stop and have a McDonald's on the way home. I sit in my car and listen to my audiobook whilst enjoying some chips or whatever.

We actually only live a few minutes away from this McDonald's so I technically could get everyone one, DH and the kids and take it home. But I don't mention it! 😂 I like the 20 mins to myself before going back. I know DH would probably think I was a right selfish cow if he knew, he likes a McDonald's every now and then and the kids well... Obviously they would.

Am I the worst wife and mother ever? Grin

I used to take Wednesday mornings off as we didn't have childcare for DD. At 11, I would drive her to a McDonalds drive through and she would fall asleep on the way. I would munch my 2 cheeseburgers and a chocolate milkshake in the car while she slept and then drive her to her childminders for 12. Loved that time! Chucked the wrappers in the bin in the car park and DH never knew. I did have a few moments of wondering whether my secret eating was bad but I'm generally healthy the rest of the time and not remotely overweight so I decided it was fine and I stand by it.

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 14:06

@lentilsforlunch

My DH used to do this (sometimes with our toddler), I found out eventually when they started calling it "daddy's cafe"
Daddy's café 😂😂 I love that...busted!

I do this all the time!

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 14:08

@AtLeastThreeDrinks

Perfectly reasonable but I'm surprised you've not been busted –I can smell it in the car for days after my partner's had one! (I'd have one too but their veggie offering is rank. I saw news about the McPlant burger last November but where is it?! Presumed it'd be released for veganuary. McDonalds, if you're reading, PLEASE I really want a dirty veggie burger!)
DH is very rarely in my car so so far I've managed to avoid suspicion Grin kids don't seem to be able to tell, they would definitely say if they did 😂

@KarmaStar

Would suggesting a veggie burger ruin it?
How is that a treat?
JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 05/01/2021 14:08

DP thinks it takes 3 hours to get my nails painted - it's a hotel spa and there's a gorgeous bar there 😂

SecretMaccies · 05/01/2021 14:10

and drive to Subway and Starbucks or KFC and Costa while he eats salad or vegetable soup

Excellent

To enjoy a secret McDonald's

Now that is genius
IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 14:12

Do this too, and so do half the women I know Grin

6 nuggets bbq sauce, an apple pie and a black coffee, please.

ThundercloudYouBastard · 05/01/2021 14:13

My mum used to do this!

ThundercloudYouBastard · 05/01/2021 14:13

Yanbu btw

CatVsChristmasTree · 05/01/2021 14:13

I would so this, as our nearest town big enough for a food shop does have a Mcdonalds. But I've never used a drive through and am nervous I'd cock it up and look like an idiot. Plus I never know what I want until I've stared at the menu for 10 minutes, where do I do that at the drive through?

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/01/2021 14:14

YABU to put “enjoy” and “MacDonalds” in same sentence.
That stuff is not food.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 05/01/2021 14:15

A sneaky McDonalds is the best kind. But yeah, you've got to be careful to destroy all evidence. My DH borrowed my car the day after I had one and found a BBQ sauce packet. I told him it was an old one but I'm a bad liar.

I only really like McDs when it's fresh and hot, and when you've got the DCs, you have to drive home and sort them out, by which time it's all soggy and gross. When you go on your own, you can park up and enjoy your hot fries.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 05/01/2021 14:17

I definitely do this, when I go shopping (a bit more difficult in COVID times, a trip to just Sainsbury’s can’t take over an hour and a half!). I also suspect DH does the same, I’m going to see if I can catch him out - not that I mind at all!

I'm shocked we got onto the third page before the 'it's not food brigade' arrived!

YANBU OP, I love a McDonalds. My car is convertible so, weather permitting I could just put the roof down to avoid the smell!

blalalala · 05/01/2021 14:18

The stopping off for something you feel is a treat and keeping it to yourself I think is lovely.

I'd prefer it to be a small independent business and something tasty instead.

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 14:19

Don't be daft, of course its food. Why do people come out with that rubbish? Educate yourself.
And don't tell other people what they enjoy Hmm

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 14:20

There is a menu on a screen at the drive thru, but why not look on your phone before you drive in?

UselessTrees · 05/01/2021 14:21

I love a sneaky lone McDonald's, but I can't drive and now there's no eating in again Sad . Sitting on a damp park bench eating it doesn't appeal.

Nia18 · 05/01/2021 14:22

I've never done this but now I'm questioning why! Im definitely doing this next time I have the opportunity!

steppemum · 05/01/2021 14:25

I used to do this.

But our banking app now flags up when either of us spend anything on our phones, so he would know, and they don't take cash.

Before any says it, of course I could still do it, it isn't like dh has control, but the point was the sneaky secret part of it! Like being a kid playing truant from my actual life!

The app thing really annoys me actually.

IceIceBebe · 05/01/2021 14:26

I've never heard of a McD's not taking cash. What country is it?

itallwentwrongat30 · 05/01/2021 14:27

@BrightYellowDaffodil

YABU to eat factory farm animals

Jeez, what is with the responses at the moment from the militant anti-meat brigade shoehorning their agenda in? This is about the third thread I've seen in the last few days where the conversation has been twisted. FWIW, McDonalds are better than many on the animal welfare front. And did you miss the bit where OP said she ate fries?

Anywhooo...YANBU to enjoy McDonalds. I don't eat from there often but it's bloody awesome.

agree with you , glad someone said it - what is with some folk. The (small family) farm here supplies Mcds and the cows are all free range - I sit and watch them in the field from my window.

anyhoo to OP I don't have kids but I am partial to doing similar during a little shopping trip and don't tell my OH - I have no idea why not because he doesn't even like a McDonalds so it's not like he would want one brought back but it just feels like "my time" lol

butterpuffed · 05/01/2021 14:27

You crack on OP, enjoy ! Grin
