To ask if you sniff your leggings?

We have been watching an old ‘Live at the Apollo’ hosted by Sarah Millican where she talks of ‘sniffing her leggings’ to see if she can get another day’s use out of them.

If you’d rather not comment, feel free just to vote below!

YABU - yes I sniff my leggings
YANBU - no I do not.

@Emeraldshamrock

No way. My thinking is if you can smell a hint of stale vag others will too. A colleague who obviously used the sniff trick test did she stank by noon.
I only wear leggings for running, and I often wear my running stuff more than once at the moment - I'm outside and given the current situation nobody should be getting close enough to sniff anything anyway!
Mumbum2011 · 02/01/2021 21:24

Yep. I shower every day but with restrictions in place the only thing I'm doing is going for walks- either beach or forest for an hour or two with dog and kids. I don't really care what I look like and would rather not use clean leggings every day (when previous ones only worn for an hour before showering again and pjs back on :-). In normal times it's clean clothes every day (except maybe jeans).

DuchessofDerbyshire · 02/01/2021 21:24

I thought leggings went out of fashion years ago other than for sport/ yoga type of activity.

I gave them up years back.

If you wear knickers, why would you legging gusset smell?

JuneFromBethesda · 02/01/2021 21:24

@ChristmasFluff

I'm with the people who sniff everything except pants and socks/stockings

Why wash clean things?

I agree with you!
TokenGinger · 02/01/2021 21:25

Yep, I sniff most things. The only things that get washed after one wear (unless they are visibly dirty or we've been working out) are our underwear and DS's clothes because he's 19 months old and wears every single meal.

I don't wear cotton leggings but I do have quite a few pair of gym leggings, which at £36.99 a pop, I don't fancy ruining sooner with unnecessary washing. Now I'm working from home, I get 2-3 days out of a pair of leggings. I shower daily and wear fresh underwear and I'm not exerting myself walking to and from the kitchen for a coffee.

In the summer when we were working out daily in the back garden, I'd wash the leggings after one wash then.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 02/01/2021 21:27

I sniff all my clothes before I put them on. I also sniff my vag and arse before I exit the house.

DuchessofDerbyshire · 02/01/2021 21:27

@squaresandsquares

Yes I sniff all clothes which have been close to my vagina, Apart from my knickers, I do it to check I can get another day out of them
Really? Do you not wear underwear? That's why it exists.
VaggieMight · 02/01/2021 21:28

I also sniff my vag and arse before I exit the house. GrinGrin

Lockheart · 02/01/2021 21:29

I only wear leggings to the gym, so I don't wear them twice. Jeans I'll give the sniff test if I've worn them a few times.

Clean socks and underwear every day are a must for me! So no need to sniff test those.

I rarely wear a top for more than one day but I suppose if the situation arose I'd give it a sniff test!

DuchessofDerbyshire · 02/01/2021 21:30

I think there are a lot of people here with OCD.

If you were to wear expensive wool trousers, for example, you would never dry clean after 1 wear.

If you really think that your clothes smell of your vagina when you wear knickers and a pant liner if necessary, you have a problem. And it's nothing to do with odour.

52andblue · 02/01/2021 21:30

Hmmm.
Items like undies and vests/blouses/shirts need fresh everyday.
Jeans/ tailored trousers / jackets can be worn a few times probably.
Leggings - I don't wear as unflattering - but I'd change each day unless slobbing at home / cleaning / dog walking etc.
I don't sniff my own clothes as you get used to your own smell so I worry I'd not smell 'me' so just follow my rules as above.
I DO sniff my ASD teens clothes - as they scoop it all up into the wash, clean or dirty, put stinking T's back in drawers etc and seem unable to tell when they themselves smell (so they say :(

mrjuno · 02/01/2021 21:30

I think leggings and jeans are minging, and don't possess any. But if I did, I suppose I'd wash them daily, as they're a bit like knickers, aren't they?

squaresandsquares · 02/01/2021 21:31

To add. I wear knickers..but I mean the crotch area of jeans, leggings etc to see if i can wear again. I have actually thought about going to a GP as I do think I am a bit smelly at times

parsnipsnotsprouts · 02/01/2021 21:34

Yes I sniff them. I can get four days out of leggings if I wear a pantiliner and I avoid the dc's sticky fingers. A friend of my mum's re wears knickers because she uses liners. This is a bridge too far imo though

lambsandlion · 02/01/2021 21:35

Yep sniff most things but don't do knickers with leggings (vpl) so change every day!

DuchessofDerbyshire · 02/01/2021 21:35

@mrjuno

Being really frank, if your jeans or leggings are like knickers, it means a) they are really tight and b) you are saying that normal discharge comes through a double-layer gusset of your knickers and wets your trousers.

If that's the case, use a panty liner- plenty are made of cotton and have no plastic backing.

This over-use of washing powder/ liquid and the use of all that hot water is causing huge environmental damage.

Di11y · 02/01/2021 21:38

I'm not close enough to people who care to be wearing properly fresh clothes everyday. So yes I sniff test but would put on fresh usually.

PoppiesinOctober · 02/01/2021 21:39

I think leggings and jeans are minging, and don't possess any. But if I did, I suppose I'd wash them daily, as they're a bit like knickers, aren't they?

Err, not really!

lissie123 · 02/01/2021 21:39

Sniff everything to check if it needs washing. I do enough washing and drying already without adding unnecessary items to the washing basket. Can’t bear the smell of over laundered clothing, it smells synthetic and desperate.

PoppiesinOctober · 02/01/2021 21:40

And no I don't wash clothes after one use. I don't stink, my clothes don't stink, and frankly, why the fuck would I?! I'd never stop doing laundry.

MazDazzle · 02/01/2021 21:40

Crikey.

I consider myself an absolute sloth by most people’s standards, but even I wouldn’t do this. Can’t even imagine how long I’d have to wear them before this would be required!

Backbee · 02/01/2021 21:41

Aha yes, I usually put a clean pair on everyday, but if I'm running low I have been known to have a quick whiff.

Nunoftheother · 02/01/2021 21:45

I despair of people who can't countenance the thought of wearing any clothes more than once, no matter how unenvironmentally friendly it is to do all that washing. As long as it's more important to people to have clean sheets and pyjamas every single day than to spare a moment's consideration for the effect on the planet, we're well and truly fucked.

(But then it's the same principle when it comes to driving a Chelsea tractor or even having a fifth child; nothing trumps "I want...")

beautifulmonument · 02/01/2021 21:47

Hahaha YABU yes I do and if they smell fine then I hang them up to air overnight ready to be worn again. I have no wish to prematurely wear out my clothes by washing them unnecessarily.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 02/01/2021 21:48

I do the sniff test on the majority of things l own. I only wear most things once so most pass! Apart from jeans, l try to limit how much l wash them
