OMG I'm 11 stone

thecutback · 02/01/2021 09:18

Heaviest I've ever been.

This year has been tough, iui, then ivf, then a traumatic miscarriage and then the drinking and eating that comes with Christmas etc.

Really need to get it sorted! Very unhappy at this weight

11 stone plus is far from healthy if you're average height.

OP, at least you can get down to a healthier weight much quickly. Your health is important, and good thing you are doing something now and not waiting until you get to 20 stone.

cheeseisthebest · 02/01/2021 09:59

I'm 5ft 1 and 10st 10. It really shows when you're short so I get where you're coming from!

JinglingHellsBells · 02/01/2021 10:00

I think it's very unhelpful to say 'I am bigger, just forget it.' it's like someone saying they smoke 30 a day and someone else says 'Don't worry love, I'm on 60 a day'. Hardly helpful.

Look at it this way @thecutback..

what small difference can you do today?

Look at this as a chance to make changes and stick to them.

I don't know what your lifestyle is, but maybe you could

  • Go for a walk for an hour?
  • Put on some music and dance in your lounge for 30 mins to get your heart rate up?
  • Climb the stairs 20 times?

Food
Chuck out or give away all cakes, biscuits, and crap food.

Ditch sugary drinks

Analyse your eating habits.
Are you eating out of boredom or unhappiness?
What can you do to change either of those if that's the reason?

Create a meal plan for the week. Do the shopping online and you won't be tempted in the supermarket!

goteam · 02/01/2021 10:00

How tall are you OP? I'm 11 stone at 5'5" and while I would like to be a stone lighter it's not that bad. I am going to make a conscious effort to eat less.

HerMammy · 02/01/2021 10:00

No need for the ‘i’m 20 stone’ comments, that’s your issue.
OP sorry for the rubbish year you’ve had, I had a pretty sedentary job and had put some weight on, now I’m much more active and walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day and that alone has had me lose a stone in 6 weeks. Best of luck x

relievedlady · 02/01/2021 10:01

I have dipped in and out of 16 8 and always lost weight well on it and felt so much better and less bloated so will be bak to that as well as the cardio.

For anyone moaning and being downright rude they need to just stop being bitter.

It doesn't matter what your weight is but how you feel so being half a stone over weight can make you feel as crap as being two stone over weight.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 02/01/2021 10:02

@louisejxxx

I’m 5’3” and 12.5 stone - want to lose at least 2 stone this year.
I was the same three years ago. Did the Blood sugar diet in the September and within six weeks I had a flat stomach for the first time ever and was down in the 10 stones. By Christmas I was still 10 stone but lost all the fat around my middle ( and I’m guessing from inside, around my organs).

I’ve put on the inches again this year during lockdown but I know it’s healthy and achievable to lose the fat quickly.

Lockheart · 02/01/2021 10:03

It doesn't matter if it's 2lb or 10st you want to lose, if it makes you unhappy then it makes you unhappy. It's all valid and it's not a competition.

You have an easier goal than many OP. It is very very achievable and you could lose the additional weight in a few months or less. I would however get this moved off AIBU and into the weight loss section.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 02/01/2021 10:04

Sorry about the miscarriage, OP. I
I think most of us did a bit of comfort eating in 2020. Aerobics works for me because the music lifts my spirits.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 02/01/2021 10:06

It’s irrelevant that others may be heavier, the OP has recognised she isn’t at a good weight and wants to change that.

So many have lost sight of what a healthy weight is and it’s well known that being over weight can mean other health issues.

Given the nhs and the virus, anyone wanting to make changes should be supported.

MajesticWhine · 02/01/2021 10:07

@justanotherremainer - about the 5:2 diet... I do quite a bit of sport - would the 5:2 be difficult. I feel scared of trying to do sport when I haven't eaten a decent carb loaded meal. Can you switch around the fasting days?

midgebabe · 02/01/2021 10:08

Why did someone suggest that only being a little overweight is a stealth brag with an example of someone having only si much savings ? It's more like someone getting grief because their debt is smaller than someone else's so they shouldn't worry about their small debt

MN is very sensitive when it comes to weight.

Rather than encourage people to be healthy there is a trend to minimise weight and pretend it's not a health issue.

MeMarmiteYouJam · 02/01/2021 10:12

We've survived a very shit year. Be gentle on yourself, and look at weight loss as a long term thing. You can turn the ship around, but it takes time.

I've let my weight creep up too, but life's pleasures have shrunk to wine and Netflix, so it's not much of a surprise. Small changes can still make you feel better. Dry January could be a good start?

justanotherremainer · 02/01/2021 10:12

Honestly, I found that I couldn’t fast and exercise hugely on same day. But others do. And you totally can switch the days around to suit you.

Thee are other types of fasting g which might suit you better. I’ll get you a link to the thread...

So much better to address being a little overweight then leaving it. I was only a little overweight but at mid 40s if had carried on as I was would have got really big. On it now though

Edel2019 · 02/01/2021 10:14

@midgebabe

Good grief, is everyone really saying don't worry about being overweight because others are worse ?
This 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/01/2021 10:14

@JinglingHellsBells is absolutely right.

Honestly though, people need to look at their behaviour because if someone sees thread about someone being unhappy about their weight and they simply must say "Hmm I weight more, are you happy?" They have issues. And not just weight.

justanotherremainer · 02/01/2021 10:14

There are loads fasting threads in there.

Good luck!

thecutback · 02/01/2021 10:15

Thank for the support everyone! It's really nice!

Plan today is to do 16:8 everyday, and be very careful with calories and to make sure to log everything.

I have MyFitnessPal so I'll get back into the habit.

Edel2019 · 02/01/2021 10:16

@Calmandmeasured1

Okay OP. Just get yourself on a diet and fitness regime. Pointless to create a thread about this (especially one which stated your weight but no height). What do you want others to do about you being overweight?
THIS is why Mumsnetters can get a crap rep. What a stupid post.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/01/2021 10:16

Absolutely. Every weightloss goal I remind myself that if I started on x date, I would have been done by now.

It's easier to keep fit than get fit. Sadly something I didn't take seriously. So if anyone putting weight on is reading this... Trust that bloody sayingBlush

fellrunner85 · 02/01/2021 10:17

I know where you're coming from OP. Seeing 11st on the scales was what finally prompted me to do something about my weight, after years of being fat and unhappy.

To start, I started c25k, cut my drinking right down, and stopped my takeaway habit. Then I started running more and more and stopped drinking alcohol together. I'm now 9st, a size 8-10, and have kept it off for a few years now.

Good luck OP - it's about how you feel, not about whether others consider 11st "acceptable" or not!

JellyTots2009 · 02/01/2021 10:17

OP started a thread about wanting to lose weight and the first few comments are well I'm this size...and?

OP didn't ask what you weigh she was simply saying what she wants to do. Remember everyone has their own personal goals. If she wants to lose a small amount of weight why does someone who weighs more feel the need to leave a shitty comment.

Deal with that yourself before making OP feel crap for wanting to do something good for herself.
