am watching now. Patronising propoganda. so naive, so upsetting

OP posts:
NameChangeforArmageddon21 · 01/01/2021 01:34

I watched it, I thought it was clever, I thought it was nice, but why have I spent the last hour and 30 odd minutes sobbing since? I'm not sure

Lady089 · 01/01/2021 01:34

I loved the David Attenborough bit at the end, a reminder to us all to look after our planet and inhabitants 🌍

Rosebel · 01/01/2021 01:35

Ah I thought it was lovely and clever, the kids loved it, said it was better than last years display.
I am sure people would have moaned if Captain Tom wasn't included and it was his choice to raise the money, he wanted to do it. No one made him.
Just see it for what if was, a little bit of celebration and a thank you to (some) of those who have worked hard.

frustrationcentral · 01/01/2021 01:36

Were the fireworks real?

lulad · 01/01/2021 01:36

I didn't know drones could do that so very impressive.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 01/01/2021 01:42

DS & I giggled the whole way through it. It was like the opening to a Dr Who Christmas Special. It was all a bit weird and like they couldn't quite decide what tone to adopt, so just went for 'fuck it, let's cover everything, and to hell if it looks like some kind of alien communication.'

I also sniggered massively when the turtle first appeared, because it looked like a waving penis.

ohfourfoxache · 01/01/2021 01:43

Very clever and very pretty.

But I sat there wondering how much PPE could have been bought instead.

Or how many ventilators. Or nursing posts funded.

Then I saw the NHS symbol and my blood pressure went up.

I find it a bit hypocritical to praise the NHS whilst simultaneously stabbing them in the back.

But then I’ve always been a cynical old goat Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 01/01/2021 01:46

Glad to see David A survived 2020 along with Tom Jones.

ConfusedcomMum · 01/01/2021 01:47

I thought it was pretty cool, especially the drone display. Got a bit emotional towards the end.

HesterLee · 01/01/2021 01:57

I think the fireworks were real and live. Someone living next to Tower Bridge filmed them and put the footage on sm.

CatAndHisKit · 01/01/2021 02:11

Tower Bridge? I thought the fireworks were by the Millemium Dome!

Still can't see how they could have been real and filmed a few days ago - thousands of people living around would have seen them.

CatAndHisKit · 01/01/2021 02:12

and also from the arch of Wembley stadium, more fireworks.

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 01/01/2021 02:16

I enjoyed it

Well, I guess the bonus is that you started the new year laughing.

Did you actually watch it? Fireworks from both of those. Filmed early in the morning (Tuesday I think).

Do you live in London? If not, then you’d be surprised how quickly you get to “tune out” noise. If you don’t then you’re screwed!

If I was still living there, I’d probably have woken up and thought “flipping idiots one borough over” and then rolled over and gone to sleep.

Tink1990 · 01/01/2021 04:47

I really loved it, I too found it emotional!

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 01/01/2021 05:32

I thought it was better than usual, I also thought it was organised by London Mayor/office.

lovelemoncurd · 01/01/2021 05:53

It's a firework display ffs. Get over it. Do people react to everything now with anger?

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 01/01/2021 06:02

Whatever they had done you could guarantee there would be at least one moaning thread started, it's par for the course.

Toilenstripes · 01/01/2021 06:29

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName

Has the definition of fascist changed recently?
Some people like to throw the word out there to make themselves sound well read and intellectual. 🤷‍♀️
Mummyoflittledragon · 01/01/2021 06:48

I thought the live / love etc TOGETHER was about Brexit. I didn’t like that bit for this reason.

CaptainSandy · 01/01/2021 06:50

That was definitely no government display. There were a couple of love letters to the EU in there.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/01/2021 06:56

Saw bits of it from the roof garden
missed out on the nauseating poetry
could think of better things for my council tax to be spent on

EddyF · 01/01/2021 07:01

I hate threads that the OP does not link/explain. You have to then spend time reading replies until you get the answer to what the post is about, to then realise you don’t actually care for the thread.

gingganggooleywotsit · 01/01/2021 07:12

It was fab stop moaning
