@whoamongstus

I thought it was deeply embarassing that they paraded the Captain Tom drones about in their lightshow like it isn't a failure on the behalf of the government to fund the NHS adequately, and we let a hundred year old man drag himself up and down the garden to raise money.

I hate this horrible little country sometimes!

Another reason why I felt anger 😢
sansou · 01/01/2021 01:03

It touched me and I felt emotional. I don't feel anger - just resigned that we have to endure this for awhile yet and it's going to get worse before hopefully, it gets better.

GrapeLipBalm · 01/01/2021 01:03

Giggling twat emojis are always useful when you've nothing to say

Cheeselets · 01/01/2021 01:03

@GrapeLipBalm

Your feelings are completely understandable Cheeselets
Thank you. I think I'm just so tired of everyone's (the gov, the lockdown breachers, the covid deniers) bullsh*t right now 😂
Pieceofpurplesky · 01/01/2021 01:04

I liked it but struggling to understand how it was fascist?

VashtaNerada · 01/01/2021 01:04

If it was done by central government I would have found it patronising and hypocritical but as it was done by Sadiq Khan it seems a lot better! He genuinely does care about the NHS and BLM. In last year’s celebration there was a big fat piss off to Brexit if I remember correctly Grin

XmasGridlock · 01/01/2021 01:04

The best bit was the David Attenborough Climate message. Had me in tears.

Piccalino3 · 01/01/2021 01:05

I loved it! I think they really got the balance right of acknowledging what a challenging year it's been, hope, positivity and looking forward to the future.

I'll enjoy it for what it was and not think too deeply about it because I'm afraid that if I do then it will spoil it. I'm just happy that London had something because I was expecting nothing.

Atrixie · 01/01/2021 01:05

I thought it was fantastic

VashtaNerada · 01/01/2021 01:06

The Captain Tom stuff is getting embarrassing though. If the government did its job properly we wouldn’t need him to be fundraising. I wonder if it was intended as a dig to government though? As in, look what he’s done when you’ve done fuck all.

BenoneBeauty · 01/01/2021 01:07

I loved it too - much preferred it to previous years. Wish they'd played Auld Lang Syne at the end as then I think it would have been pretty perfect.

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2021 01:07

It ended with an ambulance siren... Or maybe that was a real one :(

cyclingmad · 01/01/2021 01:09

Sadie did say he was planning something in secret

Obv it had to be kept a secret to keep people away

Doingitaloneandproud · 01/01/2021 01:09

I loved it, thought it was really well done!

WhereAreMyPants · 01/01/2021 01:10

I thought it was fantastic. Struggling to see what was “so upsetting” about it.

Wakemeuuuup · 01/01/2021 01:12

I really liked it

MountainDweller · 01/01/2021 01:18

I saw the lasers and fireworks on Facebook without the sound. I couldn't believe it. It's the most depressing New Year in my lifetime with Covid running amok and the Brexshit show. I live in Europe and my life will never be the same again. We are recovering from 8 months of unemployment, haven't seen family in the U.K. (both mothers widowed and over 75) for over a year and there will be no vaccinations for the over-50s for 6 months to a year. I can't find anything to be happy about and I'm sure a lot of others feel the same... it's like holding a fireworks display in the middle of WWII - very bad taste.

headlock · 01/01/2021 01:19

Loved it. Why wouldn't you?

Parrish · 01/01/2021 01:21

Edinburgh ones were photoshopped in. £2 million. Bargain.

SomethingsGottaChange · 01/01/2021 01:22

I think it was nice. Unexpected and cleverly down.

Cant please everyone !

Sad though as its a start of a ‘new’ year and the worse is still to come

lulad · 01/01/2021 01:24

On Tuesday did they set off fireworks?

HeyMister · 01/01/2021 01:27

And.... HAPPY NEW YEAR Mumsnet! Hahaha.

Waspnest · 01/01/2021 01:30

I think the word 'happy' is banned on MN isn't it?

SimplySusanna · 01/01/2021 01:31

I thought it was brilliant and, unexpectedly, very emotional. Like pps, I think they got the tone just right.

soopedup · 01/01/2021 01:34

If you turned off before the end then you missed David Attenborough you fools. Absolutely brilliant. I had a little cry over that. Coloured drones. I thought it was excellent. London does the best NYE show. Never fails. Innovative. Creative. Hopeful. They had drones in a picture of Captain Tom. How did they do that?? I was impressed and proud. You can’t beat our country when it comes to fireworks. Yes! Go us. Be proud. Let’s go into 2021 with hope.
