OP posts:

Jeeeze, the moaning. I can't bear it.

Some people can't enjoy anything unless they can find something in it to moan about. I don't know how people can live like that. And I do wish they wouldn't piss on everyone else's parade.

gingganggooleywotsit · 01/01/2021 18:37

@saraclara couldn’t agree more. If people didn’t read mail online and let it goad them into being furious about everything, the world would be a better place. That’s where a lot of the moaning comes from

gingganggooleywotsit · 01/01/2021 18:39

@Bizawit please google the meaning of the word ‘facist’ Hmm

Fizzydrinks123 · 01/01/2021 18:42

I see - so the Guardian wouldn't have been moaning today if it had been a Tory mayor and he'd prepared a "secret" leaving the EU fireworks celebration last night with UK flags etc?

The issue is the mayor pushing his political agenda, not the fireworks/drones.

stevalnamechanger · 01/01/2021 18:44

It was fab! 😉💕🥂

It was propaganda. Used to prop up/ justify the extreme authoritarian measures that have been placed on us over the last year, and encourage public support through emotional manipulation. So yeh, I call that pretty fascist.

Cheeselets · 01/01/2021 23:56

@Rinoachicken

I enjoyed it.

I’m more annoyed at how captain toms money has actually been used. In my trust, we all got an extra days annual leave. Neighbouring trust they all got a fancy water bottle with a superman logo saying thank you NHS.

I can think of better ways to have used the money!

I know what you mean, but I feel it's a bit of a tough one.

The tax we pay / government's contributions should be enough to cover the vitals - the provision of care, equipment, medicines, etc.

Charity efforts for the NHS should not be part of the core funding in my opinion. We should never have to rely on charity in the NHS, that's what tax is supposed to be for. As such I feel fundraising efforts for the NHS should be for extras - such as appropriate rewards for staff (e.g. your annual leave day), toys for kids in children's hospitals, better ward environments, etc. Not sure about the water bottles though... Hmm

I do agree though that this year, the NHS has needed extra money (even more than usual), and the government hasn't been very wise about what they've done with their own money (giving PPE contracts to their cronies, for example).

I appreciate that my statements are full of 'shoulds' though and don't actually reflect our reality 😔

Oopsyouvedoneitagain · 02/01/2021 00:01

It made me want to defund the BBC.

RealllyThough · 02/01/2021 00:12

@krappykrismas

I'm pissed off that it was kept under wraps. We switched the BBC off a few seconds before midnight because Alicia Keys and Jules Holland were looking like they'd be warbling on past 12 with nothing else happening. We only realised we'd missed a show when we saw the coverage this morning.
On my TV, on the channel/programme list/guide, it was clear there was something going on. There was a 10 minute television slot called "kick off the new year", or something like that, that was right in the middle of "part 1" and "part 2" of Alicia keys. That's what they do every year - put a firework show in the middle of the '[singer/band] rocks big ben" show. Did you not see that there was a break in the show and clock that some sort of celebration was happening?
realllythough · 02/01/2021 00:14

@krappykrismas And that was visible on the live iPlayer too...

Cheeselets · 02/01/2021 00:19

@Heybaby2020

Alright HUN I was just explaining why it left a bad taste in my mouth. The rest of my point still applies even though the gov didn't organise it. I also didn't know (and now do) that it was organised by the mayor. Sorry for my mistake, "hun". Hmm Hmm Hmm

Elephant4 · 02/01/2021 00:22

Is this supposed to be Boris on his podium?

to be pissed off with the government NYE 'celebrations'
Realllythough · 02/01/2021 00:23

@Fizzydrinks123

It isn't about money going on "arts" it's about money being used to make political statements that suit Sadiq Khan - that's the issue I have a problem with.

It's pushing his agenda - bit like a bit of campaigning mid-pandemic for his agenda.

Being anti-racism is not a political stance.
Realllythough · 02/01/2021 00:24

There's not an ugly mop of messy hair. It can't be 😅😅
Elephant4 · 02/01/2021 00:26

Oh - I thought it was ... haven't watched the whole thing properly.

But what I did hear was very cliched and cheesy. Embarrassing actually.

I thought it was shit.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 00:31

I thought it was good and you know boris doesn't organise so you will have to direct your anger elsewhere

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 00:34

@vashtanerada you will always need fundraising thats life
Even if we through more money at the nhs people would fundraise so it could offer more treatments etc
Its unrealistic to think we can live in a world where charities never exsist

HandcuffsAndCheese · 02/01/2021 00:35

No, it's an image of Captain Tom Moore who raised money for NHS Charities Together earlier this year.
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 00:36

@mountaindweller lots if people got some joy from it though so does that not count

chomalungma · 02/01/2021 00:38

Just saw it.
Wow.
Didn't see the EU flag.
The NHS bit was excellent.
The BLM was simply a statement saying Black Lives Matter.
Climate change wasn't mentioned - just Attenborough saying we should look after our planet.

It really put the UK on the map for what we are as a country.

The drones were amazing!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 00:44

@fizzydrinks123 most people won't of even noticed though and his position on leaving the eu is mute, its happened .
Isn't he due to be re elected though soon or he hopes , maybe he thought it might get him a few more votes but in all honesty the vast amount of the population wouldn't of taken that much notice
I just thought it was sad as everywhere was so empty

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 02/01/2021 02:43

Loved it.

Hang on..am I reading this correctly? Are people actually moaning about Captain Tom going on holiday..?

Furries · 02/01/2021 03:11

Yup, you really did read that. I mean, life’s shit enough as it is, but let’s berate a 100 year-old guy for daring to have some pleasure.
MamaTookMyEyebrows · 02/01/2021 03:17

I don’t understand. On what basis would you moan about that? Confused

Porridgeoat · 02/01/2021 07:38

I liked it.
