AIBU to say looking after children is too much?

I can’t give any more, I’m exhausted. I’ve just told my step-daughter I can’t look after her kids again next week. My husband said we’ll have them, even though he’s at work all day and can’t help.

Notice all those that flamed you for not putting yourself at the bottom of the pile, hasnt mentioned her own father taking time off from his job. You did the right thing op. If your dh and his children don't respect you, at least you respect yourself!
How is her childcare problem yours?? Mind boggling.

How are you feeling @Greenfingeredsue?

It wasn’t hard. The fact that he saw me as his property to volunteer for childcare without discussing it with me, means that I that I no longer feel the same about him.

No man treats me like that.

I haven’t heard from him or his daughter. To be honest I thought this would end with him wanting them to move in, and there was no way that I was having that.

I don't think you are being unreasonable at all. If you weren't working or your husband was willing to step in and cover his share of childcare for his grandchildren then I would suggest seeing if your SD could work things out on the other days. The fact that he seems to think this is your job, however, means he doesn't have any respect for what you do and neither does his daughter.

I back you 100%

You're a great role model, OP.

Well done for realising enough is enough.

I hope work is going better for you.

Huge respect from me too

Hats off to you!

Yep, totally agree with you.
Leave them both to it.

He'll probably come crawling back soon enough looking for free childcare or whatever he can get, etc.

Taikoo · 22/01/2021 14:12

How's it going, OP?
