To think we should bring back the clapping

We seem to be in a similar position to March and the NHS is coming under serious strain. Aibu to think now is the time to bring back the clapping?

No

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 30/12/2020 23:52

Oh for the love of god, please no

NYEPOPPER1 · 30/12/2020 23:53

But surely anything that would raise staff morale and bring a better sense of community would be a good thing

I don’t think the clapping actually helped the doctors and nurses at all. It also seems a bit ingenuous given the number of people not still sticking to the rules.

mrselizabethdarcy · 30/12/2020 23:54

No

PleaseHoldCaller1 · 30/12/2020 23:54

Please god, not more fecking clapping! What is the point of it? Half my street have had friends over and kids to play throughout the strictest lockdown period, but were out clapping like sea lions every week.

Just stay home and help the NHS by voting for a party that won't destroy it at the next opportunity to do so.

Lola528 · 30/12/2020 23:54

Good Lord, no!

SosYourFace · 30/12/2020 23:54

Please don’t. Grin

MichelleScarn · 30/12/2020 23:54

No thanks, I know the timings weren't fun for colleagues who were trying to sleep!

MrsBobBlackadder · 30/12/2020 23:54

Things are bad enough as it is without bringing back the clapping...

Thegifthorse · 30/12/2020 23:54

I'd forgotten about the clapping!

Feeling nostalgic now.

What a long year it's been....

HeyMister · 30/12/2020 23:55

Nope!

BananaPop2020 · 30/12/2020 23:55

I have been waiting for this post for months - it’s a resounding NO from me. The NHS staff continue to have the piss absolutely ripped out of them by the Government and going out and clapping feels (to me at least) like pure appeasement. What happened to protect the NHS? How are we in this current mess? Boris and co have had MONTHS to sort this out, yet here we are again.

PersonaNonGarter · 30/12/2020 23:55

Sorry, the NHS deserves our support but right now those workers have work and purpose and plenty of status. We are all grateful to them.

If clapping helped anyone, I’d clap for the people who used to work in Debenhams.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 30/12/2020 23:55

The clapping never raised morale.

All it did was allow people to be sanctimonious due to the wonderful thing they thought they were doing for the NHS, and look down on those of us who didn't want to stand and clap every bloody week.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 30/12/2020 23:56

Really not. It had its moment. No more.

Ginkpin · 30/12/2020 23:56

Dear God No. The first night felt good - like a genuine thank you. Every single night thereafter was a combination of virtue signalling and neighbours 'checking' and judging. I was so relieved when it stopped.

Lovely1a2b3c · 30/12/2020 23:56

Or just a massive pay rise for NHS workers? that would be really good.

Nurses and doctors are not cannon fodder for our incompetent government.

I agree I was always appalled by people who took it upon themselves to enforce it in my view teetering towards the thin end of the wedge of compelled speech and mob rule

But I don’t think that’s practical given the state of our economy and the massive amount of debt we are in

Fuck no. The nhs has had months to get its act together and absolutely nothing has changed from the last time.

The nhs is a badly run, inefficient, bureaucratic shit show. Thank god it has amazing doctors and nurses doing their best, against the odds to provide care.

A clap for all key workers and no mention of the nhs itself would be a much better idea.

Sunbird24 · 30/12/2020 23:58

No. It didn’t do anything to actually help, and by the end it got ridiculous with people honking car horns etc. Whole lot of pointless virtue signalling, with people even getting snarky notes through their doors or comments from their neighbours because they hadn’t been out clapping. Never mind that it was their children’s bedtime, or that they were ill!

boatyardblues · 30/12/2020 23:58

The clapping in March woke my friend’s neighbour, a nurse who works night shifts. 🤦‍♀️

MarshaBradyo · 30/12/2020 23:58

No thanks

Twelveisthebestnumber · 30/12/2020 23:58

Please God NO!! Start a petition to have their wages increased or something useful! But not the virtue signalling clapping.
