We seem to be in a similar position to March and the NHS is coming under serious strain. Aibu to think now is the time to bring back the clapping?

No!!!!! My children need sleep! Fgs. 🤦🏻‍♀️

ShrikeAttack · 31/12/2020 00:05

Are you bonkers?

Jeysus.

No thanks.

Forgetaboutme · 31/12/2020 00:06

No thanks. Clapping doesn't help, it just gives neighbours a reason to look down on those who don't clap.

Allispretty · 31/12/2020 00:06

Ffs yes of course what nhs staff want is a good clap Jesus Christ! You do realise this was a smokescreen from bojo and co because he won't give them a pay rise? As if people believe this is going to help what they are dealing with I'm lost for words! 🤦🏽‍♀️

ShrikeAttack · 31/12/2020 00:07

It was cringeworthy the first time.

Why the fuck would you reprise it?

RubaDubMum89 · 31/12/2020 00:08

The first week of clapping was a nice gesture. After that, on my street it turned jnto a weekly competition of which twat could make the most noise for the most time. In later weeks it ended up with drum kits, pans, vuvuzelas and fireworks all at 8pm and every week without fail leaving me with a screaming child for at least an hour.

IMO YABVU. Please don't bring back that shit show

RosesAndHellebores · 31/12/2020 00:08

No.

It was set up by a member of the public. Unfortunately the money simply isn’t there for a pay rise as the economy is trashed and the government is drowning in debt. That’s not meant disrespectfully but however great full we are to nhs staff that’s the reality. I felt the clapping was a nice gesture

Well if it reminds the covidiots and conspiracy theorists and anyone else that needs reorientation that we do actually have a pandemic to fight, I’d say you’re not being unreasonable. Then in turn we might be supporting the NHS.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2020 00:09

Yeah, people standing outside in the evening in the middle of winter, especially when it's icy underfoot seems like exactly what the NHS needs right now.

headlock · 31/12/2020 00:09

No thanks.

Justgorgeous · 31/12/2020 00:10

No way ! And it wasn’t just clapping, our neighbours banged spoons on saucepans for 3-4 mins every week !!

Corriefan2021 · 31/12/2020 00:10

Hell no!!!

AndcalloffChristmas · 31/12/2020 00:10

I really think we should just pay them much more - especially nurses and all the grades that are currently so badly paid - and also invest far more in the nhs.

Clapping achieved nothing - it might have been a nice gesture for a bit if it had been accompanied by a major pay rise, but on its own it became insulting.

NYEPOPPER1 · 31/12/2020 00:10

Why are people so down on the clapping?

OP posts:
Fedup21 · 31/12/2020 00:10

The nhs workers I know hated the clapping. I think they’d prefer decent working conditions and a pay rise.

But the money simply isn’t there unfortunately as there is massive national debt and the economy is trashed

In my case it was the opposite and they actually joined in

You keep saying money isn't there to give payrises in the NHS but they've found money furlough a good chunk of the UK.

They need to find the money.

ellephant · 31/12/2020 00:12

The clapping did my head in, especially when I was trying to sleep for a night shift. There's nothing more irritating than clapping, what good does it do? Would rather everyone showed thanks to the services by following the rules

livefornaps · 31/12/2020 00:12

A nice gesture would be CASH

Clapping you can just FUCK OFF

BananaPop2020 · 31/12/2020 00:12

Because it was a fruitless and competitive exercise that became a cover up for the shit show beneath.

Shingleballs · 31/12/2020 00:12

No fucking way.
The general public are idiots, who again will end up letting off fireworks, blasting car horns and shrieking/singing in their front garden to let everyone else and Facebook know they are amazing.
No thought for the people sleeping who are running the show behind the scenes.
Do something useful like lobby your MP ffs

NYEPOPPER1 · 31/12/2020 00:12

@ReefTeeth

They need to find the money.

They have found the money for furlough through fiscally irresponsible borrowing that’s tolerable in the short term but long term the government need to look to limit government expenditure. Surely you understand that?

No.

As others have said give NHS workers something real and tangible to make their lives better, like free staff parking, a mahoosive payrise, and/or a sound-proofed staff room with free beverages.

My friends and family are postal workers, retail workers, emergency service personnel and council workers but they never got clapped. They all need a decent payrise and to be treated with more kindness.
