To have found Harry&Meghans NY podcast quite uplifting

(And it was v cute to hear Archie speaking also)

Just that really. Yes there was some cheesy bits with some speaker talk of “nourishment” (cringe) by reading children’s books, but most of it was good and positive. Nice mix of contributors. Well done Harry & Meghan.

Netflix are buying into the fact that there are plenty of stupid people who follow twits like H&M just because they're self congratulating and self promoting all the time, but have actually achieved literally nothing, and have no knowledge or skills or any way to engage with intelligent people - Netflix will take their money and smile

GetOffYourHighHorse · 01/01/2021 15:40

'But I don't understand why they are being paid to produce stuff when they haven't actually achieved anything in their previous lives.'

Well that is the great irony they are being paid to produce stuff purely on the back of H's Royal Family connections. The RF seem to be of use to Harry afterall. Kerrching!

HmmSureJan · 01/01/2021 15:45

@TheKeatingFive

But I don't understand why they are being paid to produce stuff when they haven't actually achieved anything in their previous lives.

Because they are high profile and the likes of Netflix believe that will attract viewers.

It’s not very complicated.

You're right it isn't complicated. I suppose it's more that many people who cannot see their appeal - and I am one them - are struggling to understand what exactly others see. What makes these two believe themselves to be SO qualified to set a moral agenda for the rest of us? What have either of them done that we should look up to them, listen to them and see them as leaders to follow or even just commenters to respect who have a code we should all aspire to?
TheKeatingFive · 01/01/2021 15:47

So you’re not the target market 🤷‍♀️

Netflix believes it exists, otherwise they wouldn’t have signed them.

Time will tell.

Caselgarcia · 01/01/2021 15:49

You call them 'high profile', but are they really? I think their relevance will deminsh as it all seems es a bit froth and not substance
I do wish them well, but think they would have been better advised going into an area that one of them had a track record ie Harry and his armed forces.

ajandjjmum · 01/01/2021 15:56

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'I refuse to watch it. Bound to be rubbish. Unless it makes the world a better place which I cant imagine it does'

Perhaps they'll do one on forgiveness and the importance of reconciliation and loving family, flaws and all. Now that one would be worth a listen instead of all the saviour guff.

Maybe. And maybe Meghan will follow her own advice, and reconcile with her father.

Or maybe she's just happier telling others what to do.

IcedPurple · 01/01/2021 15:58

An absolute cringe fest.

Not even an interview, but a few inane pre-recorded soundbites from people with no connection to one another, complete with toe-curling 'commentary' from the Freedom Finders. Who really cares how Elton John spent the pandemic?

Like others, I don't understand what their role is. They made a big song and dance out of leaving the royal family, yet now they seem to be doing pseudo royal stuff in California? Makes no sense.

Pleasantly surprised to see that this thread has survived a whole day, despite the approximately 79 uses of the word 'vitriol'.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 01/01/2021 16:07

'What have either of them done that we should look up to them, listen to them and see them as leaders to follow or even just commenters to respect who have a code we should all aspire to?'

They've just concocted a triumph over adversity, paragons of victimhood. Its all very sad, I bet Charles, William etc spend their time muttering wtf if H is ever mentioned.

'they would have been better advised going into an area that one of them had a track record ie Harry and his armed forces.'

Yes it all just seems so tacky the sanctimonious 'be a nice person' 'love wins' (except with your family) stuff. I'd have had a bit of respect if she was acting in a Netflix series and he was her manager or something.

maureenfrombarnsley · 01/01/2021 16:07

Re the podcast I did listen, out of curiosity. I was struck by how little in common most of their guests probably have with the average person. Politician/activist, poet, tennis player, James Corden, Elton John all talking about their lockdown experience. An awful poem at the end. To me it was just a lot of boring waffle but I guess time and listener figures will tell.

Janegrey333 · 01/01/2021 16:12

Uplifting? Well, your opinion, I suppose. I have only skim read about it, not being able to tolerate either of them at all. I think they are quite ridiculous and wish they would just shut up.

cherrypie790 · 01/01/2021 16:38

Why does it always come back to race with Meghan if you're not fawning all over her?

It's so fucking boring and predictable. Yawn.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/01/2021 16:43

Indeed iced

I see no vitriol or hatred.

Amusement. Bemusement. Incredulity. Disappointment. Hypocrisy. Smugness. Quite likely.

Vitriol? No.

Hal is known in my ex-military circle as Beaker now. Same expression mostly and just about as much clue as to what is going on around him.

I assume that card is played in order to have a non gushy thread removed.

Because apparently only white middle class pearl clutchers are allowed to have an opinion on mumsnet of course Hmm

Be as rude as you like but the fact remains, they have very little of interest to say.

That might actually have quite a lot to do with the fact that they have very little life experience, they are not oracles and they are shirking lightweights.

Gosh, what an expert on generalisations.

How am I being rude, I’m stating facts.

Take it up with Netflix, they are giving them the platform.

😆

My Dad served 25 years and his circle is still all military and ex military. They're all utterly baffled by his behaviour especially those who were in the marines.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/01/2021 17:18

No - not an expert jane

Just that this insult usually gets thrown out when anyone ever dares to state anything other than a positive opinion about these two. And the accusers have no idea who is actually posting.

It is tiresome.

It isn’t about that reason. At all. And certainly not on this thread. And most certainly not from me.

It gets tiresome when any type of hate is mentioned when it isn’t about that.

And my opinion is more to do with him. Because he should know better.

Coffee4Queen · 01/01/2021 19:18

I only listened to the first few seconds before switching it off, too cringey for me. Then again I don’t listen to any celebs like them who sit in their privileged palaces and preach, advise, guide, uplift (whatever you want to call it ) to the little people.

Coffee4Queen · 01/01/2021 19:18

Also find the use of his mother in their website tacky!

Pancakeorcrepe · 01/01/2021 20:04

“I am my mother’s son.

And I am our son’s mother.

Together we bring you Archewell.

We believe in the best of humanity.

Because we have seen the best of humanity.

We have experienced compassion and kindness,

From our mothers and strangers alike.

In the face of fear, struggle and pain,

It can be easy to lose sight of this.

Together, we can choose courage, healing, and connection.

Together, we can choose to put compassion in action.

We invite you to join us.

As we work to build a better world,

One act of compassion at a time.“

😂😂😂 for anyone defending them - what do you make of this clap trap? Really? It’s just total bollocks

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/01/2021 20:09

I’m all for changing the world one act of compassion at a time.

They can start with her dad.

Happy to join in after that.

FutureDuchessofHastings · 01/01/2021 20:55

@Pancakeorcrepe - oh my goodness, is that what they have written/said?
That is the most cringeworthy load of mumbojumbo I have ever read.
They just use as many buzzwords as they can to actually say very little. They are so far up their own arses that they actually seem to believe that they have anything about them that could inspire or uplift anyone. They have nothing in common with 95% of the world. They just embarrass themselves more and more every time they open their mouths and spout this guff. It has absolutely no content at all. It's all just wordy jargon. In other words, it's complete bollocks.

StartupRepair · 01/01/2021 21:14

I am sure they have good intentions and would like the world to be a better place. I don't understand why they felt they couldn't contribute from inside the royal family where they already had a platform which didn't require them to have independent life or professional skills.
Harry is now passionate about the unfairness of privilege. But that privilege and the recognition it brings is literally all he has to contribute.
