To have found Harry&Meghans NY podcast quite uplifting

(And it was v cute to hear Archie speaking also)

Just that really. Yes there was some cheesy bits with some speaker talk of “nourishment” (cringe) by reading children’s books, but most of it was good and positive. Nice mix of contributors. Well done Harry & Meghan.

thats makes me all the richer I think when you can be kind and compassionate to everyone regardless of their status or wealth

No we shouldn't. There's so many very wealthy people and people of status who we shouldn't be kind to. Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew? .....to name just two.

cyclingmad · 02/01/2021 14:14

@mymadpuppy

As I said in a previous post that I dont get the hate towards these two when they haven't done anything as wrong as killing or abusing people, people like that who you would hate including examples you've given

So please make sure you understand the context of my responses before commenting on them

mymadpuppy · 02/01/2021 14:30

I haven't said I hate anyone, stop presuming. But is hate only acceptable when it's directed at murderers? Confused

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/01/2021 14:38

I’m interested as to why you say people hate them. I think people find them smug and irritating and incapable of ‘reading the room’ as some have put it.

No one is baying for blood.

They could be doing so much good but instead are coming out with tea towel quotes.

It is nice to be nice. It is also nice to be allowed to have an opinion.

I know I do good with my days and nights. I don’t need lessons in kindness from someone who states
‘ I might be as privileged as them but im just as rich for at least being a kind person and not hating and judging others 🤷 thats makes me all the richer I think when you can be kind and compassionate to everyone regardless of their status or wealth’

I see people struggling all the time who do not have privilege or riches.

My opinion is borne of frustration. I don’t need the be kind brigade telling me I should not be permitted my opinion. You don’t know the occupations or lives or kindnesses that other posters have or have given.

They are probably doing a lot more good every day than these two.

cyclingmad · 02/01/2021 15:18

There has been plenty of hate directed towards them and not just on here.

Plenty of nasty words used too.
Do you know everything they do behind closed doors? How do you know they aren't doing other things to help other than what is reported.

There are plenty of celebrities who do good but you never hear about it either doesn't mean I'm gonna judge them based on only whats reported.

Paul walker is a good example, an actor and celebrity but behind the scenes did lots to help disaster areas. It was never reported until after his death and it came to light.

You can be frustrated and think what you like. I just don't ever assume to know I know everything about people I haven't even met and judge them

ajandjjmum · 02/01/2021 15:26

@mymadpuppy

Thewinterofdiscontent No I wasn't implying they NEEDED superior intelligence, heaven forbid, Grin. I was meaning that people grovel before them as if they're of superior intellect. They're in their exalted position position purely through the accident of birth......
I didn't know what you meant - just made me want to tell you to 'grow up' - but appreciate we are all entitled to our opinions.

Some people grovel, most don't, but many people appreciate the work they put in to supporting our nation, whilst at the same time recognising that they are well rewarded. Still wouldn't be a life I'd choose - although I hope I'd have the intelligence to realise that if I chose to step back, that without the work, I wouldn't get the rewards.

Those who grovel don't do so because they think they're of super intellect, they do so because they're members of the Royal Family.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/01/2021 15:35

And yet you say some of us hate them... that is an assumption right there.

I will reserve my judgement on the good they do until I see it.

Many do secret good works. I understand that. They don’t need the titles to do it though. And these two could do so much good with so much publicity. They seem happy to toot their flutes about their compassion - why not toot something about good works? You say I don’t know that they don’t. I don’t see much evidence that they do. Do you know for sure?

And if they preach about compassion I’m all for it. They can start with their own families. I’m sure the world will follow.

EngineeringFix · 02/01/2021 15:36

I teach my children to be wary of charisma, to judge on actions not words and to avoid looking up to other people. Have no idols.

Oh and that being just is often more important than kindness.

Being kind is not the panacea it's claimed to be. However I do believe we are put here to help one another before anyone jumps on my cruel character. It's just nodding along and smiling isn't always the most helpful thing to do.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/01/2021 15:45

Brava 👏🏼 engineering

A good lesson to learn.

The bully of colleague who made my life a walking misery for 4 years presented as a god fearing holier than thou church man.

He was the closest thing to the devil I’ve come across. Just because someone says lovely things doesn’t mean that their actions are good.

mymadpuppy · 02/01/2021 15:47

Those who grovel don't do so because they think they're of super intellect, they do so because they're members of the Royal Family.

Which obviously makes them (in their eyes) far superior to themselves. I find it odd, the RF are just ordinary people. Why we give them such reverence amazes me.

@cyclingmad - because if they did do stuff behind the scenes they'd have have it photographed, publicised and try to sell the pictures - they're not philanthropic, they're egocentric, shameless and dishonourable

mymadpuppy · 02/01/2021 16:07

The very idea that they're philanthropic is hilarious. The RF are takers.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 02/01/2021 16:14

No one is really judging “them” but their public persona. It’s literally their USP. As custardbear points out they are happy for the press to see them putting flowers on war graves or visiting shelters. They are actively seeking attention.

Loads of celebs have change the world attitudes.
Linda McCartney used her passion to produce a Vegetarian food range . Stella does the same with clothes. Bill Gates and his wife’s massive Foundation work. Proper ideas backed by genuine belief.

Some ropey be kind and compassionate charity when neither of them have any track record for being either of those things? Why not just go back to acting and doing something for the military and enjoy being a family.

cyclingmad · 02/01/2021 16:19

So what is known is that even before she joined the RF she was involved in humanitarian organisations and support women's health and rights worked with different organizations in Africa and Asia, including World Vision and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

So you gonna deny she doesn't do anything or isn't dling enough or using her privileged position to help out and thats before she was in the RF.

Honestly itll never be enough for some people.

cyclingmad · 02/01/2021 16:20

So her belief in women's right isn't a proper belief then?

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/01/2021 16:21

puppy

I took the queen’s shilling and served her and my country.

I will say that the members of the Royal Family I have been in the presence of have never acted in a superior way at all. Just people. And me and my colleagues loved them for it.

It was funny shaking blossom out of trees so that the grass wouldn’t be a mess or painting kerbs a uniform colour. It did amuse me that the upper echelons wanted such levels of perfection when I think the Royals would have accepted us fine just as we were. As we - albeit as junior ranks - accepted them.

I do sadly get the impression that some may think themselves superior or deserve more than their position dictates. But I do think they are in the minority. And I know I don’t know that for sure having not even been in the same room as them. It is just my opinion.

A lot of us were disappointed in the actions of the one now known as beaker. And the one who has been very quiet of late.

But the family are doing what they were born to do or married into. It isn’t always fabulous. But they are probably just getting on with it like the rest of us. Quietly. With dignity. And yes - with the wealth they are accustomed to. Just without Netflix and self congratulatory websites.

sst1234 · 02/01/2021 16:28

@cyclingmad

So her belief in women's right isn't a proper belief then?
Women’s rights? Is Meghan a feminist now too? You’ve got to be joking. The woman who hunted down a prince to launch herself a career because she wasn’t a particularly good actress. She married a prince because she couldn’t make anything of herself by herself.
SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/01/2021 16:29

Ah. My mistake. not GONNA deny that

Clearly did toot her own flute instead of doing things quietly behind the scenes. Grin

Thewinterofdiscontent · 02/01/2021 17:02

Meghan Markle was a Global Ambassador for World Vision, the world’s largest international children’s charity, from 2016 - 2017. She travelled to Rwanda in early 2016 with World Vision to see first-hand the importance of clean water.

While visiting a school she taught students to paint with watercolours, using water from a newly installed pipeline in their community. The students created pictures based on their hopes and futures, which are now brighter because of the recent access to clean water.

And that’s different to any gap year student how? Aside from using fame to bring awareness to the charity. Hardly grass roots activism.

Also interesting to note that in 2018 the press were lapping up her charity work ( this trip was widely reported on very positively) and they were looking forward to her wedding.

cyclingmad · 02/01/2021 17:03

By all means carry on putting down other women or men who have done anything so bad to warrant it.

mymadpuppy · 02/01/2021 17:10

And yes - with the wealth they are accustomed to. Just without Netflix and self congratulatory websites.

Ah yes wealth they are accustomed to. That would be the wealth that us peasants provide for them wouldn't it.

This has to be one of the most sycophantic posts I've ever read.

How can you possibly think the powerful monarchy (enshrouded in secrecy in order to preserve their huge wealth and privilege) are as you describe. Nothing could be further from the truth. They have EXACTING standards.

"The queen's shilling"?......Meaningless and far removed from anything of any merit.

Oldbutstillgotit · 02/01/2021 17:35

Why is it that anyone who criticises M and H is automatically branded a hater by some people @ cyclingmad ?
It is becoming quite boring .

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/01/2021 17:37

I feel how I feel puppy

You may think it sycophantic if you like. We hold our own opinions dear and that is how it should be.

I’m sure, as I was there, that they didn’t treat us like second class citizens. Our officers might have done but they never did. If I was being tolerated by them I never felt it.

And far from being a (very ugly so maybe memorable) face in the crowd, I was remembered 6 or 7 years on and was asked about my darling old boss. (Who I might’ve went on about a bit!)

They may have exacting standards. As do I - much to the annoyance of some I have worked with.

I’ve never thought of myself as a peasant - although I’ve come close to it when some of means are telling me how I should live my life.

You may also think taking the Queen’s shilling is meaningless. It really wasn’t to me. I was proud to take it and proud to serve. Not just Her Majesty and the family but the country.

Each to their own. Smile

HmmSureJan · 02/01/2021 17:39

Though how anyone can defend or bull up a vile racist is beyond me

Good job I didn't do that then.

Well you cared enough too didn't you,

Yes, I didn't say I didn't though...

Anyway your posts and lack of comprehension of what has actually been said stand for all to read so it's fine Smile

So please make sure you understand the context of my responses before commenting on them

This is good advice. Please take it because tbh you sound confused and aggressive and appear to be commenting on posts that haven't actually been made. It's odd.
