To be pissed off that my DM helped herself to nearly all the chocolates?

My PILs gave DH and me a big tub of heroes for Christmas - we opened them last Sunday, but hadn’t got through that many- I’d had a couple of the fudge and eclair ones, DH had had a few, but we hadn’t made much of a dent in them. There was probably 80% left.

My DM, who is extremely hard work at the best of times (and who, incidentally, is type 2 diabetic and paid a small fortune for hypnotherapy to cure her of her “chocolate addiction” 18 months ago), came to us on Christmas Eve, bringing with her a big tin of Quality Street that I ended up giving to the bloke who voluntarily drove here at 3am Christmas morning to pick up the prescription for all her meds that she left at home, as a gesture of thanks (that’s a whole other fucking saga).

We took her home today, when we got back I opened the tub of heroes, thinking I would love a crunchie, to find it virtually empty- a few dairy milks and double deckers are all that remain. I knew Mum had had a few (she talked about the “guilty secrets” in the bin in her room that she tried to hide, which turned out to be wrappers) but I hadn’t realised she’d scarfed nearly the whole tub. I asked her about it, and among her responses were “Alcohol is far worse than chocolate!”, “Oh poor you! There wasn’t any Twirls either!” “I did buy you a big box of chocolates, so not thoughtless. But then you gave them away!!”

She’s got through more in 3 days than DH and me put together in a week, and apparently she’s not even sorry. AIBU to think that’s a bit bloody rude?

A few sweets for giving you birth and bringing you up sounds like a good deal to me

Amanduh · 27/12/2020 20:39

They’re 2 quid in Sainsburys at the mo. Get more.
The diabetes situation is a real problem and completely different but that’s not what you were complaining about is it, you were annoyed about not having a crunchie and saying her not being apologetic was rude.

Sarahuk1 · 27/12/2020 20:40

Confused I never comment on these but yes...you are ridiculous! Those tubs of heroes are about £4. Get a grip! If you want to hate on your mum for xyz reason then at least be honest about what that reason is instead of pretending that it's about a minature crunchie!

Annamaywong25 · 27/12/2020 20:41

I would like a DM to share my chocolates with......

Madein1995 · 27/12/2020 20:46

You sound like hard work op mentally calculating how much chocolate everyone has had! Its christmas and shes your guest - im surprised you even noticed

Hailtomyteeth · 27/12/2020 20:47

She's done you a favour - those chocolates are gross - get something decent.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 27/12/2020 20:48

For gods sake. Really?!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 27/12/2020 20:50

What would you have given the chap who did the meds run had your mum not brought the tin of Quality Street with her? That was rude of you to suggest giving those away.

Baboutheocelot · 27/12/2020 20:50

My mums like this. Don’t leave anything out that you wouldn’t want her to eat.

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2020 20:51

The meds run was for her benefit. I'm guessing if the dm hadn't brought the chocolates he'd have got some thi g else, so?

hopefulhalf · 27/12/2020 20:52

FFS have you seen the news or even the threads on this board today ? The NHS is in meltdown, they called the fucking medical students in on boxing day in Cardiff. We are in tier 4, Dd is self isolating our Christmas plans were all cancelled and I am dreading returning to my massively overwhelmed hospital on tuesday. But you are kicking off about you DM eating too many chocolates ?

Butterfly93 · 27/12/2020 20:52

Your poor mum. You seem to be horrible to her and so rude, for nothing

MellowYellow101 · 27/12/2020 20:55

Major overreaction. She only raised you, fed and clothed you all these years and you're having a moan she ate some chocolates.

Get a grip.

Since the nice man in question brought the meds, which the OP’s mother had forgotten to pack, at 3 am on Christmas morning, I think we can deduce that the OP was not expecting to have to show gratitude for this particular kindness at the drop of a hat and probably doesn’t keep such gifts lying around just in case.

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2020 20:59

Hopeful half are you putting that on every thread that isn't about someone dying?
Some of us can cope with thinking about more than one thing at once.

ChristmasPerfectionist · 27/12/2020 20:59

Couldn’t get worked up about this

Wheresmykimchi · 27/12/2020 21:00

But PP are claiming it was rude of the DM to eat her chocolates but perfectly acceptable for her to choose to give away a gift (my understanding is OP gave her them, not DM). it may have been for her benefit but thats beside the point.
Wheresmykimchi · 27/12/2020 21:00

@livefornaps

Next time she comes, say "mum, keep those trotters out of the trough, last time you were like a snuffling pig"
You sound lovely.
hopefulhalf · 27/12/2020 21:01

No, but it does seem quite trivial given what is going on at the moment.

Wheresmykimchi · 27/12/2020 21:02

It is trivial hopefulhalf, but so are most of the threads.

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2020 21:03

I thought op asked the dms permission before giving away the chocolates she brought as a gift. If not I take your point.
I do feel this is utter frustration at watching her DM eat her way into an early grave.

Iamthewombat · 27/12/2020 21:05

No, but it does seem quite trivial given what is going on at the moment

I will happily discuss trivia with anyone else who wants to do so. Is that all right with you?

AngeloMysterioso · 27/12/2020 21:06

A blowjob.

Even if she asked her permission, DM was hardly going to say no.

I agree, But it doesn't come across as that.

It comes across as that DM has been a massive burden for the whole of Christmas.
