I have a boy and girl. They are mostly opposites. I much prefer my son's personality. They're adults btw.

I have a favourite child. At the moment it’s neither of the 2 I gave birth to.

We only have one. I quite often favour the dog.
My DH was one of four. His mother’s adoration of him was quite worrying. She idolised him to the detriment of her relationship with the remaining three.
Luckily he is a very easy going, honest man who never took advantage. She was the nastiest, most envious woman I ever met

I have two adopted DDs who are also birth siblings. I genuinely don’t have a favourite, but sadly DD1 (now 11) regularly insists that I only care for DD2 (8). This is because she’s very jealous of her. DD2 finds it much easier to make friends, and was always the one with party invitations and play dates (pre-Covid).

I will admit that DD2 is easier, because DD1 has adoption related attachment issues and SEN. She can get very angry and had been violent towards me in the past.

We’ve tried so hard to get her the help she needs. She’s always had a lot of appointments with doctors and therapists and has taken up a lot of our time.

The truth is, we love her to bits and would do anything to make her life easier. But it is true that my relationship with DD2 is easier, which is what DD1 may have picked up on. I think this is because DD1 lacks empathy, she’s unable to see how other people are impacted by her behaviour and only thinks of herself.

I can’t imagine knowingly favouring one child over another, though.

No, the dds are both equally irritating. Their brother (the cat) is my fave.

@Imapotato

I agree with you. My cats are far less annoying as a rule (except when they bring their prey inside the house Grin)

My daughter is extremely selfish. My son is the opposite. My daughter mainly thinks about herself, my son considers others. I do not love my daughter any less than my son. How could I? She's my daughter. But my son is a nicer person.

No.

A lot of parents claim full credit for their children but the truth is there is little parents can do about their children's nature and choices, particularly as they grow into adults.

Have you spoken to your daughter and is she aware of her selfishness?

Coasterfan · 28/12/2020 20:26

Mine are always asking me this, I just tell them I don’t really like either of them 😂 obviously they know I am joking. I have DD and DS so I have a favourite girl child and a favourite boy child 😀

2 dc, one with severe ASD/learning difficulties and one NT. Both girls, chalk and cheese. I can honestly say I have no preference.

AndcalloffChristmas · 28/12/2020 20:31

I think people would think dc1 is my favourite but I honestly don’t have one! Dc 1 is older so easier now, where as dc2 is still primary age and quite demanding. Doesn’t mean I love either of them more!
