to get things straight i am a pet lover and grew up with many different dog breeds. some with great personalities of their own and good company but they are pets at the end of the day right?. i never had any problem if a dog wanted to sleep in my bedroom but they had a dog's bed. surely encouraging a dog to sleep in your bed is setting the dog up for a fall? god forbid something ever happened to you as the owner and the dog had to be rehomed it could be a nightmare for the dog's new owner if they are strict about dog/human boundaries. so what do you think?

One dog under the duvet on my feet, the other by the side of the bed in her basket. She gets on to wake me up though.

Made you Envy (not envy) enough yet, OP? Good. Now mind your own business!

@OxfordwillsaveusbyFebruary

My dog sleeps on the bed mostly We rehomed him and he didn't leave my side for a second for weeks
🤣🤣 so true.

Like them people who wont have a glass of wine in case they have to drive their kids to the hospital in the middle of the night 🤷‍♀️

To each their own.

It's basically saying, you can't understand why someone you don't know, would do something, different to yourself.

SantasAnus · 27/12/2020 19:11

Oops - wrong quote. I was referring to the PP who said it would not occur to them to not let the dog sleep on the bed in case she does and the dog needs to be rehomed 🤣

SantasAnus · 27/12/2020 19:12

*dies ffs 🤬

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/12/2020 19:12

Well I've got no one else to cuddle up to in bed lol

riotlady · 27/12/2020 19:13

Not my cup of tea but it’s not exactly rocket science to understand

Arrivederla · 27/12/2020 19:13

@Serin

Love our dog, but since he doesn't wipe his arse, he wont be getting into bed with me anytime soon. (I've also seen where he sticks his nose).
Well, exactly this.

It really is disgusting.

Bunnybigears · 27/12/2020 19:13

I dont live my life making things easier for the person who may have to look after my dog if something terrible happens to me. What a weird way to think! As it is dog sleeps on the bed, he is a rescued street dog from Romania, if he feels happy to sleep there we let him. He does get down into his own bed at some point through the night, I think I wiggle about too much for him.

firthy85 · 27/12/2020 19:13

wow thanks all. not as much flaming as i expected but some genuine opinions which was all i wanted and certainly was not trying to be goady was just interested in your approach to dog ownership. having got to know mn much more i have grown to understand there is certainly a cross section of people and i wouldn't judge anyone for it. dogs have always been my life so i can see all sides of an argument

It’s gross and unhygienic more than anything else.

Pythone · 27/12/2020 19:15

I have a smallish dog (Cavalier) who sleeps on top of the duvet, and on the few occasions he hasn't been there I've found it hard to sleep without the snoring! He's not stinky and doesn't move around at night, though.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 27/12/2020 19:17

I’ve got a 10 year old rescue dog who had a shocking life before he came here last year. He can do what he wants as far as I’m concerned 🤷🏻‍♀️

iguanadonna · 27/12/2020 19:18

some posters genuinely see their dogs within the same hierarchy as children

Hah! I never let my children sleep in my bed. They wriggle and sweat and TALK.

The dog on the other hand is a lovely silent warm teddy bear.

I came to this thread hoping for photos...

Pinkyandthebrainz · 27/12/2020 19:19

It's just personal preference. My dog doesn't shed much due to her breed, this makes a big difference for me as there isn't a load of fur left behind. My dog is also wiped down often throughout the day. I also love her to bits so really don't mind.

MrsHugsxx · 27/12/2020 19:20

I wouldn't share my bed with a dog but I know people that do and I can't say it bothers me what other people do.

firthy85 · 27/12/2020 19:21

to all ps i wasn't actually saying you shape dog ownership around whether you would need to rehome them or not i think a little troling maybe a foot? but i was saying that if the dog does need rehoming and they have learned habits that you think are good and someone else thinks are bad it's going to cause problems potentially? granted may be not making much sense to some people

sillysmiles · 27/12/2020 19:24

I can't consider any situation where I would consider rehoming my dog, with the exception of me (and Dh) dying.
And I've an agreement with my sis that I'll take her dog and she take mine if anything happened to us.
Therefore there is no need to plan for a situation where our dog isn't in our home.

Nottherealslimshady · 27/12/2020 19:25

Because I like her being close and if she has nightmares I wake up and can comfort her. And can settle her if she wakes up to noises outside instead of her barking. She gets down if she's told to or if she's hot or uncomfortable. She's bathed regularly and isn't a smelly dog

Nottherealslimshady · 27/12/2020 19:26

We would never rehome her. If we died our dog boarder would have her and she let's her sleep on the bed too.

Ibizafun · 27/12/2020 19:26

Just out of curiosity the people who let their cats sleep on their bed.. you have to leave your bedroom door open right so it can get to litter/cat flap?

SimonJT · 27/12/2020 19:27

No, she has a catflap in the bedroom door
moglovesmincepies · 27/12/2020 19:29

Mine used to sleep on the bed until I acquired my now Dh. He bought him a bed and he slept in it from the first night.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 27/12/2020 19:32

Life is for living. Therefore, I'm not going to worry about what is going to happen if I die before the dog does. (That's quite morbid).

She is warm and fluffy, fits perfectly into the crook of my leg. An early morning cuddle with her in a warm bed is one of the most relaxing things in the world. I don't care if the bed smells of dog. I've grown up with dogs so their scent is actually quite calming too. I don't see her as a child, but she is a very special part of the family none the less.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/12/2020 19:34

I don’t understand why a lot of people do things I don’t do. Hygiene-freak cleaning, just for starters. Taking down Christmas decorations on Boxing Day. Putting them up in November.

Dogs on beds was always normal in this house.

Each to her/his own, and everyone else can mind their own business.
