They are just wellies after all 🤷🏼‍♀️

Please tell me about your amazingly comfortable & waterproof, low cost wellies????

My mother has a pair from decathlon she likes, they were less than £20. I like rockfish wellies but I wear wellies more than anything else.

Baddayatwork · 27/12/2020 08:10

To get decent quality, won’t tear or rip, warm and comfy wellies I think you have to spend money 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wear mine every day for at least one hour, spent £90 on a pair of muck boot wellies 3 years ago and still going strong.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 27/12/2020 08:15

My very horsey MIL who is a Welly connoisseur bought me some for Christmas, free to me, excellent quality!

kowari · 27/12/2020 08:18

Look for second hand? I got leather hiking boots in excellent condition and worth £150 new for under £50.

larrythelizard · 27/12/2020 08:18

I researched this @SOmuchsparkle but decided such a thing doesn't exist. I focussed on cost per wear instead...!

AdultHumanFemale · 27/12/2020 08:24

Absolutely second hand. Or Aigle do nice lightweight ones for about £30 if you're good to go with any colour.

Dunlop. £12 off eBay. I wear mine for hours a day walking dogs - no issues here!

Soubriquet · 27/12/2020 08:32

I have a pair of wellies that I’ve had for nearly 8 years....I think I paid £40 for them.

I only got them because my feet were freezing cold and they were the warmest things I could get to west with fluffy socks!

They have really lasted though all I’m glad I bought them

SwanShaped · 27/12/2020 08:32

Dunlop’s. I had the same thing with wellies. Don’t want to spend loads. But Dunlop’s are great. You can always buy some nice fleece liners for them too.

AreyouthereGoditsme · 27/12/2020 08:32

Go Outdoors fleece lined and very comfortable wellies for around £10.

MrsToothyBitch · 27/12/2020 08:34

Used to sell wellies- dunlops are seemingly indestructible and about £12. Don't get joules ones.

Shinylikeglass · 27/12/2020 08:34

You can get wellies very cheaply that will do an adequate job if they're "just wellies" to you, in that you wear them infrequently.

However, if you wear them often, as with anything else that you use a lot, it's worth paying the money.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/12/2020 08:35

It depends what you want to go with them. If you just want a pair to wear occasionally and because it’s a bit wet out, then go for any pair that fit!

I spend a lot of time in wellies so, like a PP, I focus on a cost per wear rather than the fact I’ve just spent £80/£90 on a pair of wellies!

Cheesefootballfan · 27/12/2020 08:37

I second not getting Joules ones! They split within a year of purchase. Shame as they're so pretty. I like other Joules stuff, but they're a let down in the welly department!

MrsMiaWallis · 27/12/2020 08:37

Don't bother with Aigle Parcours.

100 quid and my last two pairs have lasted less than a year. Aigle wanted me to send them back to France at my own expense, despite me sending them pics of split, reciept amd serial number.

Following with interest. I wear wellies every day and have horses.

inquietant · 27/12/2020 08:38

I have basic wellies from Millets, they were £15, I put decent insoles in them, another £10 but those insoles also go into my walking boots. They are comfy and warm enough for the whole day. The rest of the family all happily wear Dunlop wellies, again with warm insoles.

vanillandhoney · 27/12/2020 08:38

Definitely not the case imo.

All the expensive ones seem to break or leak within months. I've never seen an expensive welly brand that isn't plagued with negative reviews.

Sometimes it's fine to pick the cheap option!

BikeRunSki · 27/12/2020 08:39

Dunlop - I have cheapy ones at home (£15 from hardware shop) and wear Dunlop safety wellies for work (construction).

ChristmasPerfectionist · 27/12/2020 08:40

Lots of farmers wear Dunlop

Are just brilliant! Good quality wellies, v cosy and great value - especially if you can fit into the kids sizes! So pleased with mine

BikeRunSki · 27/12/2020 08:41

I give the key to warm feet on wellies is good wool rich socks are enough space to wiggle your toes.

TheOtherMaryBerry · 27/12/2020 08:43

Yes, Dunlop here too. Got them from a camping shop, £8. My last pair were smart ones with a lovely design (can't remember what make but supposedly decent) and they only lasted a couple of months. The Dunlops are super comfy and show no signs of falling apart yet!

Charlie63849 · 27/12/2020 08:45

Iv had cheap ones and they were crap.

Iv got hunters now and they are much nicer to wear.

MrsMiaWallis · 27/12/2020 08:46

Aren't dunlops wide and flappy at the top? Can't be doing with that.

MrsToothyBitch · 27/12/2020 08:46

@Cheesefootballfan joules ones have a year guarantee so take them back with a receipt. People who buy them for the "look" of the pretty wellies often do this and come back to exchange them pretty regularly ever after, but you can swap for a voucher or anything else in stock. That said, my dad has their vulcanised rubber mens ones, which I bought him and they seem to be holding up. Better rubber than the fashion wellies though.

Other than Dunlops which plenty of farmers seem to live in, I probably would pay for something well made and with some comfort, if you're in them enough and in bad conditions. I don't wear wellies often, I have a pair of quite decent Hunters but they're not Aigle! Mine were a leaving present from my boss - I was the only one who sold the bloody things so he got me a pair!
