They are just wellies after all 🤷🏼‍♀️

Please tell me about your amazingly comfortable & waterproof, low cost wellies????

@MrsMiaWallis get something adjustable or with a drawstring. Or Muck boots? (I don't ride, correct me if these are wrong/crap).

I agree on the Hunters despite owning a pair. I use mine very lightly and they were a present, I wouldn't have bought them myself or for anything requiring sturdier boots. I'd go down the nearest farm suppliers and hope my legs are trimmer now.

MrsPnut · 27/12/2020 09:09

I managed to buy a pair of half price Cambridge short muck boots, they have neoprene lining which means they are warm as well as waterproof and they stretch to fit my calves.

They are miles better than any other wellies I’ve tried.

3wheels · 27/12/2020 09:09

The best wellies in the world are made by Bekina.
I've worked outdoors all my life, and walk miles a day in all weathers. My boss bought us all a pair of these years ago and they are comfy, grippy and warm. They are expensive at £60 but it's worth it for the amount of reliable work they do. :)

The non adjustable Aigles fit me perfectly 😪 such a shame they seem to split so easily

I've been looking at these (I'm outdoors and with animals for hours a day)
Travelledtheworld · 27/12/2020 09:12

You get what's you pay for. Muck Boots all the way for me but I wear them for hours at a time while doing the horses.

Backbee · 27/12/2020 09:14

I just get Asda ones for me and DS, we walk a lot and they're comfy and last.

hellsbells99 · 27/12/2020 09:15

Another vote for Dunlop here.
Last 2 pairs of Hunters disintegrated after about 12 months.
My sister loves her Muck Boots

grey12 · 27/12/2020 09:15

OP there seems to be a disconnect here. You forget a lot of people wear mostly wellies everyday. I'm guessing your everyday shoes cost more than £10...

If you only wear them to go for a quick walk in the park, like me, there seem to be decent cheap ones ;)

Katkincake · 27/12/2020 09:18

Bought some town and country ones 10yrs ago at small hardware store. They are really comfy and still going strong - though lining is now coming away so I need to invest in some new ones (hence i‘m interested in this thread for alternatives).
These are similar to mine. www.townandco.com/products/footwear/burford-wellington-boot-green/burford-wellington-boot-green-size-4/

3wheels · 27/12/2020 09:21

MrsMiaWallis the Bekinas come with warm insoles and they have a choice of normal outdoor wellies or the various safety wellies. I have the safety wellies with steel toes and steel sole inserts for work, although you'd never know as they're so light. I bought my mum a pair of the ordinary ones for walking and she's very happy with the warm and lightness of them. I also bought her a pair of doc marten wellie boots years ago and she liked those too!! Grin

Juanbablo · 27/12/2020 09:21

I got some Dunlop wellies from Sports Direct about 4 years ago that were around £10. They are still perfect and I wear them a lot.

Uiseag · 27/12/2020 09:22

I like Dunlop 'Blizzard', cost about £35 but are lined and have a good sole.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/12/2020 09:22

I have Dunlop wellies for gardening and they are great and have lasted years.

But for walking I have a pair of Le Chameaus which I absolutely love. I bought them in the sale at under £60 and they are worth every penny. They fit really well, aren't flappy, are flexible and grippy. They replaced a pair of Hunter's which looked ok but we're useless in mud!

Every summer I wash them and use silicone bike spray ( Lidl) to keep them in good nick.

CaveMum · 27/12/2020 09:23

See I have a Joules pair (bought in the sale) and 3 years later never had an issue with them. Granted they don’t have daily use but at this time of year with 2 children who require daily exercise they are used several times a week!

Now if you really want to splash out, everyone in racing (except me!) appears to own a pair of Dubarry boots!

RickJames · 27/12/2020 09:25

Hunters have really gone to shit, haven't they? Whilst simultaneously getting more and more expensive. My 12 year old Hunters are absolutely fine. My mum left a new pair at my house about 3 years ago and I just realised the other day that they are sort of rotting or breaking down in places. She just dumps them in the shed without cleaning them but still - I wasnt aware mud was dangerous to wellies. She uses them twice a year!

Polly111 · 27/12/2020 09:26

I have a pair of hunters that I’ve used for the past 16 years and they’ve been great and really comfy to walk in, though judging by some of the other comments on here maybe the newer ones aren’t as good.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/12/2020 09:29

@RickJames absolutely. Hunters used to last me a couple of years at least but my last few pairs have only made it to about a year. I wear Toggis most of the time now but Hunters are the only wellies that really fit me (I have skinny legs and small narrow feet!) so I grit my teeth every time I have to buy a new pair.

Like everything, the price went up and the quality went down when the brand was flogged off to private equity.

Lovemusic33 · 27/12/2020 09:31

I think all wellies are uncomfortable, I have had many pairs including hunters, joules, Dunlop etc...

Would rather spend money on some mucker boots or good walking boots (waterproof).

tuttifuckinfruity · 27/12/2020 09:34

Agree with pps about Dunlops.

I have a pair of Hunters and see no difference between them and my Dunlop's which are much older and still going strong.

They are all just rubber at the end of the day. Just get a pair big enough to wear warm socks with and you're sorted

vanillandhoney · 27/12/2020 09:36

@Travelledtheworld

See, I've heard loads of negative things about Muck Boots splitting and leaking after only a few weeks of use.

Dunlop all the way here - no way would I be paying nearly £100 for wellies when a pair of £10 ones do the same thing 🙈

Mushroomswithgarlic · 27/12/2020 09:42

I have some old Hunters that are brilliant. Infrequent use for 10+ years. More frequent use recently!

Have just ordered some Dunlops too (shorter ones) - they have excellent reviews so seem to be the best budget option.

wonkylegs · 27/12/2020 09:42

My teenager has Dunlop wellies that are indestructible unfortunately his feet grow like weeds atm so I'm not forking a fortune out for anything
I'm on my 2nd pair of Asda wellies in 12yrs, the first ones were ended by a nail through the sole. I buy big enough to wear with thick socks and they are comfy enough for long walks or gardening.

piscis · 27/12/2020 09:43

I bought mine at Sainsburys (this year, 3 months ago) so not sure if they will last long or not, but they are pretty and comfortable, £18. So far so good, I use them pretty often as I Have to go through a park to take my DD to nursery, but obviously not the same as doing a lot of gardening or working with animals.

LittleRa · 27/12/2020 09:45

I’ve had my Dunlop’s for about 8 years now and going strong- bought for going to festivals back in the day, now to be found going round the country park with DD! They’re just the dark green ones, they don’t seem overly wide at the top or anything like that. They’re comfortable and durable, in my experience.
