They are just wellies after all 🤷🏼‍♀️

Please tell me about your amazingly comfortable & waterproof, low cost wellies????

You definitely do NOT get what you pay for with wellies these days - aigle and le chameau split in a year and my friends muck boots leaked from day one!

Manteo · 27/12/2020 09:48

I got green ones from the garden centre for £20 a few years ago and they're fine .

LovingCountryLife · 27/12/2020 09:49

I've had the same pair of Hunters for 12 years, they are good as new and I'm with horses and walk dogs in them every day. DH has a pair of Barbours, they look great but he doesn't wear them anymore as they hurt on long walks

I think the old style Hunters were excellent (I had a pair until they got lost in a house move) but the newer ones are apparently more geared towards fashion and don't last as long, which is a real shame.
Musmerian · 27/12/2020 09:52

Spent ages lusting after Hunter wellies but in the end bought pair for £10 from Garden Centre and they’ve been brilliant.

Equimum · 27/12/2020 09:53

I would say it depend what you use them for. I have a pair of Aigle Parcour iso and they were worth every penny. Had them three years, wear almost everyday and never had cold or wet wellies. Previously had Joules etc, and they split super fast. Also, always got cold feet with cheaper wellies. I do think you get what you pay for, but only when buying ‘specialist’ not fashion ones.

C0NNIE · 27/12/2020 09:53

I have slim calves and find most wellies are baggy on the calf as well as inflexible on the foot.

I wear fleece lined boots from decathlon which are sold as hunting boots - I’ve had them for about 4 years and they were about £30 IIRC.

womaninatightspot · 27/12/2020 09:54

i bought my muckboots for 40 quid on amazon. They lasted 3 years of daily long walks.

Snackz · 27/12/2020 09:55

B&Q for £5 (I think!) In the sale. Very comfy Xmas Grin

Chimeraforce · 27/12/2020 09:56

Look for seconds. Bhf shop locally has lots.

Demitri · 27/12/2020 09:59

I got a pair for £5, from sports direct, in the sale about 5 years ago. I wear them every day to walk to the dogs and they’re still going strong. I’ve never had wet socks when wearing them.

DrMaryMalone · 27/12/2020 09:59

I wear mine a lot (work in agriculture and have horses to do) and the wellie of choice at my work are neoprene lined Field Sport Pro from a Hoggs of Fife. I wear the unlined version though as I have mega wide calves and need as much room as possible! They also do a Hunter lookalike called the Balmoral which is popular with farmers wives and a mega cheap Dunlop type called the Lomond that is worn by the majority of farm labour picking fruit and veg around here so must be fairly comfy as they work long days on their feet in very muddy conditions.

user1471462656 · 27/12/2020 10:00

My Aigle parcour wellies are on their 4th year and still going strong after daily wear to the horses.

Moonandstars25 · 27/12/2020 10:01

Going against the grain of what others have said about Joules wellies but I love mine. I bought them at an outlet for £20 4 years ago and they are still going strong. I find them really comfortable and use them 3-4 times a week through winter.

UntamedWisteria · 27/12/2020 10:02

I think it's worth spending decent money on wellies as I wear mine nearly every day in winter to walk the dog - muddy rural area.

I love Muck Boots, which are about £100, warm and good grip.

For the DC who rarely accompany me however, I have just spent £12 each on Dunlops.

WanderingHopefully · 27/12/2020 10:05
@RickJames absolutely. Hunters used to last me a couple of years at least but my last few pairs have only made it to about a year. I wear Toggis most of the time now but Hunters are the only wellies that really fit me (I have skinny legs and small narrow feet!) so I grit my teeth every time I have to buy a new pair.

Like everything, the price went up and the quality went down when the brand was flogged off to private equity.
Yes to this. Hunters are the only ones that fit me too. Other boots are too baggy round the foot and calf, but especially the ankle. My first pair of Hunters lasted years, but they've gone downhill since. The latest pair are their Norris version, which are much more sturdy, and will hopefully last longer than their fashion boots.

Springersrock · 27/12/2020 10:05

I pretty much live in wellies (horses and dog walking) and I have Muck Boot wellies.

They were £100 but I’ve had them 3 1/2 years, they keep my feet warm, comfortable and are waterproof - every now and then I hose the mud off and they’re good as new.

I’ve had lots of pairs of £30 wellies that never lasted more than a couple of months before leaking or seams splitting.

Muck Boots are more expensive to buy but on a cost per wear, they’re by far the cheapest wellies I’ve ever owned

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 27/12/2020 10:06

Can't you have a good rummage around the sales? Online rather than in an actual shop if that's easier.

MrsMiaWallis · 27/12/2020 10:09

@user1471462656

My Aigle parcour wellies are on their 4th year and still going strong after daily wear to the horses.
I'm so jealous. They are the most comfortable wellies. I had my original pair for 5 years then the next pair split in 6 months, thought I'd just got a dodgy pair so bought another pair in Jan this year and they had split by July Sad
GwendolineMarysLaces · 27/12/2020 10:12

I wear wellies most days and I've found s that cheap ones really are false economy. Sorry OP.

britnay · 27/12/2020 10:15

I have muckboots and I wear them every day. I use them for going out hacking, doing horse jobs, doing farm work and going out for walks. A pair usually lasts 12-18 months. They'd probably last longer if I cleaned them after use and looked after them a bit better. They are super comfy.

actiongirl1978 · 27/12/2020 10:21

I wear muck boots. Mine have just split arou d the ankle on each boot after 3 years. I walk miles in them and they have neoprene lining which I need as I have raynauds.

I've just bought a new pair for 125. They are so comfy and warm.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 27/12/2020 10:22

Depends. I have these, or rather the Wetlands style because I’m always in water. I’ve spent much more (and less) over the years but these Muck Boots are in a class of their own for comfort, efficiency and long wesr.

AIBU not to want to spend £60-£100 on wellies?!
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/12/2020 10:23

I’ve had a pair of Hunters for at least 10 years, still going strong. Thick ridged sole, very good in mud or snow. I do have a sheepskin insole in there, too, feet never get cold.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 27/12/2020 10:23

😊 Ahhh... I see I’m late to the party with my Muck Boot recommendation
