They are just wellies after all 🤷🏼‍♀️

Please tell me about your amazingly comfortable & waterproof, low cost wellies????

I have dunlops of varying prices. My current pair were around 70 and have orthopaedic insoles in them. I've had them for 9 months and they're almost identical to the day I bought them.

My previous pair were also dunlops, much cheaper at 30, and lasted for 8 years. I only bought the more expensive pair as there was a small leak, and my feet have developed issues.

MispyM · 27/12/2020 16:13

The local farmer's and landscaping store sells good ones. Really cheap, no brand.

Some even come with felt inside.

I wouldn't recommend them for longer walks (more than 1-2 hours without a break) or walks in difficult terrain (no ankle support) but that goes for all wellies.

They really are excellent. And cheap.

MoiraNotRuby · 27/12/2020 16:43

Wellies are like kitchen bins. Not something you want to spend money on, but if you buy cheap, they will be crap and annoying. I have Grubb wellies and they are warm and comfortable. Good for dog walks but also for spectating at cold wet sports matches when you are just standing for an hour or two.

MrsMiaWallis · 27/12/2020 17:15

I'd happily spend £300 on a pair of wellies that were warm, comfortable and guaranteed to last 5 years plus!

nosswith · 27/12/2020 17:28

If you are going out daily in them in winter, say to walk a dog, perhaps worth spending a lot of money, but not otherwise.

scentedgeranium · 27/12/2020 17:38

Wellies are the only Joules clothes I'll buy. I wear wellies every day in the winter and they really do last.
Given up on Hunters: quality has taken a dive
I also have a pair of Chameau wellies. Haven't really tested them yet tho...

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/12/2020 19:27

@vanillaandhoney, IIRC they were from Celtic Sheepskin. I hope they still do them.

Gobbycop · 27/12/2020 19:42

I have a pair of aigle parcour 2 zip wellies and they are absolutely superb.
I'd never pay full price which can be up to £170.
I managed to find a pair on sale at a crazy £50 a few years ago.

However recently I bought a cheapo pair from decathlon for kicking about in, I'm quite impressed at the £17 they cost.

FoxinaScarf · 27/12/2020 19:44

Dunlop off Amazon.

HeronLanyon · 27/12/2020 19:48

I bought a comfy plain black pair from mountain warehouse recently - think around 20. I’ve never liked any of the expensive massive logo brands - they look naff to me - as for infant colours/animals from eg joules etc don’t get me started.
Bloody hell sorry for rant - no need for me to feel so strongly !

lovablequalities · 27/12/2020 19:50

EVA wellies are the biz. EVA is the stuff they make crocs out of. It's light, warm, doesn't split, cheap. Another handy feature is that they hold their shape so they are easy to put on.

£25 on Amazon or eBay (various brands) for adults. £10 for kids. They come in all sorts of colours.

I've had Dunlop, Asda, muck boots, you name it. Easily the best. Dh, dm and df all got for Christmas. Wish I'd known years ago.

HeronLanyon · 27/12/2020 19:50

Yes also ‘Mole valley’ and other farmers’ suppliers sell excellent workaday boots.

AnnPerkins · 27/12/2020 20:01

@vanillandhoney

Dunlop. £12 off eBay. I wear mine for hours a day walking dogs - no issues here!
Same here 👍🏻
ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 27/12/2020 20:05

I wear wellies everyday - I've always been a Nora devotee but this time I got Dunlops - I've added sheepskin insoles and they are lovely.

redastherose · 27/12/2020 20:05

For cheap and hard wearing Dunlop are the best.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/12/2020 20:08

My last ones were from the boys department at M&S (kids ones are cheaper, boys ones are plainer and wider than girls)

Gogreengoblin · 27/12/2020 20:21

I used to spend too much money on rubber wellies. They used to gradually break apart, some joules ones I had were terrible!
I now buy next kids plastic ones.
Probably worse for the environment sadly

Gogreengoblin · 27/12/2020 20:24

I much prefer the Hunter style wellies but can't afford those high end ones now.

AlwaysLatte · 27/12/2020 20:39

I always used to get mine from joules but they perish! My sons have super boring but functional Dunlops and I've inherited a pair that my eldest outgrew. They seem to be indestructible! Not very fashionable but fine for a muddy walk in the fields.

AlwaysLatte · 27/12/2020 20:42

That said, if I found a pair of similarly strong, more feminine ones I'd be glad to hear about them. Our are kept outside all the time on a welly stand so they'd have to be ok in sun and rain if it's horizontal and can get into our partially covered porch.

SickToDeathOfThis · 27/12/2020 23:09

I’m short with athletic calves, and find only Hunter short wellies have the wide bits of the leg in the proper place.

80sMum · 27/12/2020 23:15

My wellies are plain and simple, black Dunlop wellies. I'm sure they weren't expensive, probably cost about £3. I've had them for 35 years.

Labobo · 28/12/2020 10:17

@SickToDeathOfThis - that surprises me. All the Hunter wellies I've seen are made for models with stick thin legs.

LakieLady · 28/12/2020 10:39

@MrsToothyBitch

Used to sell wellies- dunlops are seemingly indestructible and about £12. Don't get joules ones.
I have a pair of Dunlops.

They were my late mother's, I brought them home when I cleared her house out following her death in 2010.

God knows how old they are, but they're fine and don't leak.
