They are just wellies after all 🤷🏼‍♀️

@MrsMiaWallis

Aren't dunlops wide and flappy at the top? Can't be doing with that.
You can get liners or thick socks to wear with them.
MrsMiaWallis · 27/12/2020 08:47

Dh has Barbour ones, cost about 60 iirc. He's really happy with them, he had le chameus before thst and they split after 10 months.

MrsMiaWallis · 27/12/2020 08:48

Even with thick socks I'd get hay down them! I like slim fitting wellies

NadoligLlawen2020 · 27/12/2020 08:50

I’ve just splashed out on my first pair of muck wellies with vibram soles... worth every penny to me!

Billben · 27/12/2020 08:50

I’ve paid £180 for mine 7 years. Absolutely love them to this day. Use them most days so got my money’s worth. It’s all about priorities and whether you’ll make use of the thing you are spending the money on.

Frouby · 27/12/2020 08:51

Dh wanted some hunters for Christmas, told him no way as they are shite, bought him some Rydale ones instead, £20, they look a bit smarter than dunlops and for £20 if they last 6 months I'm happy enough.

simonthedog · 27/12/2020 08:52

Search for Dunlop wellies on amazon. Cheap and comfortable. I bought a pair of fleecy Joules liners to make them a bit prettier.

movingonup20 · 27/12/2020 08:52

Mine were £10 for Asda, just normal wellies. I buy them a size up to wear thick socks

Hopeforhappiertimesahead · 27/12/2020 08:53

Have a look in a farm shop you will find cheap and cheerful unbranded ones, but it does depend on what your needing them for.

I now use Buckbootz non safety wellies after trying over the years many brands, good strong constuction, warm lined .

Agree about day jules, hunter, and even aigle, poor quality for price paid

movingonup20 · 27/12/2020 08:55

Oh and if you can get to a Mole Valley farmers that's your best bet for a choice, farmer suppliers know about durable wellies

MrsToothyBitch · 27/12/2020 08:55

@MrsMiaWallis- I couldn't get my legs in Dunlops. Think I used to have an enlarged muscle at the back from years of whizzing about and standing on shop floors! Hunters fit flush to the leg but they're less well made now. Have you tried finding something with a drawstring type top?

Glad to see the Dunlops getting some love, everyone I know who really wears wellies either wears those or the pricey ones or a mix between pairs but don't seem to have had the issues mentioned here. It's the mid brand fashion ones that get a pasting.

ScrapThatThen · 27/12/2020 08:56

Saw an annoyingly well dressed (for the occasion) woman yesterday wearing red wellies (possibly Joules) with white spotty/blue jeans, and a cute white winter hat. She looked like she had just stepped out of a Christmas film.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 27/12/2020 08:56

I’ve wasted a fortune over the years on expensive wellies. My £12 Dunlop ones have lasted far longer than all. I do a 1.5 hour dog walk each day wearing them.

movingonup20 · 27/12/2020 08:57

@MrsMiaWallis

Some of us have fat calfs

Els1e · 27/12/2020 08:57

Another vote for Dunlop’s. I got mine over 20 years ago from Mole Valley Farmers. Use them for helping on farm, dog walking, festivals and plenty of life in them to go. Can’t remember the price but would not have been expensive.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 27/12/2020 08:59

Joules are the worst, in my experience. They look nice but aren’t fit for anything other than a light stroll. Mine split after 3 wears. I got my money back but it was a hassle.

bobby81 · 27/12/2020 09:00

Another vote for Dunlop’s here, I’ve had mine approx 20 years and they’re still going strong!!

SunnyNights · 27/12/2020 09:00

I have some from B&Q bizarrely, were around £10 and going strong after 12 years.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 27/12/2020 09:01

Dunlops are great, don't get joules or hunters.

Mine are not skinny! I can't wear wellies with wide tops, they get full of hay!

drumandthebass · 27/12/2020 09:03

I totally agree. I used to buy hunters and they just don't last. The last pair of wellies I bought were b&q'S own brand for £18. They look and do everything hunters do

BikeRunSki · 27/12/2020 09:03

I have massive calves (and Dunlops fit ok. I also have size 9 feet though, so maybe the legs are wider for bigger sizes.

AuntieStella · 27/12/2020 09:03

Asda wellies are pretty good, and mine lasted.

Also, keep checking second hand shops: very low prices - I got a very good pair for a fiver

shreddednips · 27/12/2020 09:06

@vanillandhoney

Dunlop. £12 off eBay. I wear mine for hours a day walking dogs - no issues here!
I second this, I got a pair of Dunlop ones for just over a tenner from Amazon and they are great. Really durable and comfy.
namesnamesnamesnames · 27/12/2020 09:07

I can't remember where mine were from but I can tell you they were cheap, from a garden centre. That was about 15 years ago. Worn a lot, they have narrow feet which I love as I find that rare with wellies. It means I can wear them in the summer for camping, festivals etc as I don't need thick socks to keep them on.

This isn't any good for brand advice clearly but I can agree that cheaper are often brilliant!
