Celebrities daughters in their underwear

AIBU to think it's sadly pathetic that so many daughters of celebrities think it's a necessary step in life to raise their 'fame' by posing in their underwear - Jonathan Ross's daughter Honey being the latest.

I saw some pics of Karren Brady's daughter in her underwear the other day but I think that's her job which is a bit weird. You would think KB wouldn't be keen.

I think Honey has a strained relationship with her parents, I am not sure what the posing in undies is all about but there's some backstory I think.

wizzywig · 26/12/2020 17:27

I don't know about pathetic, I think that's a harsh and mean statement to say about another person. I do think it's sad that there is the potential that the person will be reduced to "it's her who shows her knickers off", rather than a personality characteristic or something that has more substance. But who am I to say what has substance?

Honey has some well documented mental health needs possibly linked to autism.

This really isnt an appropriate thread.

satnighttakeaway · 26/12/2020 17:29

It's not only daughters of celebrities, it seems that any youngwoman with even the slightest connection with any kind of reality TV seems to spend her days pouting in undies.

BananaPop2020 · 26/12/2020 17:29

I don’t know the full ins and outs, but JR’s daughter seems desperate for validation.

Campervan69 · 26/12/2020 17:29

It's bizarre. A desire for constant attention? Pathetic really because they're in an amazing position to do anything they want and this is what they come up with? I loathe celebrity culture, It's so vacuous.

PishFood · 26/12/2020 17:30

I have been watching old reruns of JR, he was very disparaging towards anyone (celebs in the news) not looking great, not sure if he was negative towards his daughter’s weight/looks and it has turned her into a rebel.

Hasnt she publicly discussed her parents treatment of her and her eating issues.
StoneofDestiny · 26/12/2020 17:34

Yes, it's not just celebs daughters, but female 'pop stars' who dress to the minimum to get attention/fan base. I'm surprised there hasn't been a backlash yet.

I think that if you don't want to look you don't have to and the papers do not need to print the pictures.
I would be disappointed if my own daughter did it but we have no idea what is going on in someone's mind.
Someone with a less than perfect face or figure going public cannot harm anyone and may even do some good. There are a lot of young girls/women who aspire to be like the airbrushed beautiful people.
At least the pictures are realistic.
Also I think it is a little bit uncalled for to name Honey on a negative post, she is a young woman doing no harm.

PishFood · 26/12/2020 17:38

That’s sad, got to admit that I would be gutted if my kids turned 20 and decided to spend their days half naked and posting on Instagram. Nothing to do
with being overweight but surely there are much more productive things to be doing.

latti · 26/12/2020 17:38

It’s probably linked to some unmet MH needs.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/12/2020 17:42

Karren Brady worked for one of the sleaziest pornographers in the world so I don't think she can have negative views about women selling their bodies, even if it is her own daughter.

zzizz · 26/12/2020 17:42

Why on earth would being autistic make you more likely to strip off? Do you mean she's being manipulated?

rookgizzardpie · 26/12/2020 17:43

oh who cares what other people do with their bodies

Exactly. So exasperating.

Yes, I did think that. I don't know what she actually thinks of her daughter doing it TBF be interesting to find out.
Kimakima · 26/12/2020 17:46

I think the very attention seeking need for validation from random members of the public that these girls need is very sad. I would not be impressed with my daughter posted semi naked pics on social media.
No one seems to be able to do anything these days without needing validation. Giovanna can’t get through Christmas Day without posting her kids on Instagram, Laura Whitmore can’t be pregnant without posting pics of her naked bump, John Legend’s wife posted every minutiae of her miscarriage. So much over sharing, it’s ridiculous.

HollowTalk · 26/12/2020 17:47

I think JR has been very open about his own problems with his weight, hasn't he? I think his daughter is in a position where she's extremely privileged and thinks she's deserving of a public place because of her parents.

StoneofDestiny · 26/12/2020 17:47

I named 'Honey' as the latest one to do it - all over the internet today. I know nothing about her other than who her father is.

Meanwhile Helen Flanagan and Kerry Katona recently published pics of themselves in their underwear with their daughters in the photographs, claiming their teaching their kids about positive body image. Ridiculous - like you have to strip off across the media to tell your daughter something like that.

I don't like it so I don't look. I just try to ignore it tbh and skip over it

Regarding not having to look, do you take the same stance about porn?
PenguinIce · 26/12/2020 17:50

I really don’t get it, in one breath it is deemed that Zoo/Nuts magazine is dated and no longer have a place in society but at the same time it’s acceptable for people to bare all on social media. We really have not moved on from the 90s, it is still easy money for getting your tits out 🤷‍♀️

satnighttakeaway · 26/12/2020 17:50

According to the daughter KB is totally on board with it but I guess she's bound to say that.

SapatSea · 26/12/2020 17:54

Why JR is still employed is beyond me, he's vile. When Toyah Wilcox was on I'm a Celeb he said she looked so haggard and awful she shouldn't be allowed on TV - don't hear him saying that about blokes. Part of the reason why TW got a facelift.
