Maybe people just don't post when things are going well, but the top 5 threads in my feed seem to be about a ruined Christmas, a fucked Christmas, a Christmas in tatters, someone who is fuming and someone else who didn't get to see her children open their stockings.

OP posts:

A mostly lovely day so far. Kids loved their presents from Santa and lunch prep all went well. DD (2) got overtired and had to go for a nap mid-lunch. DS has opened a present from us and is currently reading it!

We should have been at my mum's so it's slightly more subdued but on the other hand it's more relaxed at home and we can make our own timings and both have a glass of wine.

We still have the Christmas pudding and a mountain of presents from relatives to open when DD wakes up.

Whiskyinajar · 25/12/2020 14:40

Nice day here, we are Tier 4 so no family round. I've not had to tidy up and cook under pressure for 6-8 people.

It's just me, DH and DS for dinner and DS who is autistic is having burger and chips ....along with some pigs in blankets and some sprouts which he loves.

There is a turkey roasting for me and DH

dudsville · 25/12/2020 14:41

Ours has been fabulous. A lie in with tea and bagels in bed, no rush to have finished anything bt a certain time. We shared our presents, walked the dogs, zoomed with family. Cooking for 2 was so easy and quick. We're now stuffed, trying to create room for the freshly baked bread pudding (thanks to mners who helped me with the recipe!) And watching silly things on tv, later we'll watch a Christmas film. Bliss.

christinarossetti19 · 25/12/2020 14:42

All good here thanks.

Children thrilled with presents. Easy Christmas dinner just eaten. Will go for another sunny walk around the park soon.

Couple of phone calls to relatives to make, then duty is done.

Reading Mumsnet in the conservatory while I rub 19 year old cat’s belly. Just glad she’s still with us. DH is lying on the sofa opposite watching Netflix. It’s just us three, we have no family. Food’s prepped ready to start cooking at 3 and we’ll open the wine then. DH will do all the clearing up when we’ve eaten and we’ll watch some tv together before I carry on watching The Crown and DH watches something sporty. I know it sounds boring, it’s actually rather lovely.

Ginfordinner · 25/12/2020 14:47

Yes, thank you. Neither of our families expect us to visit as they live too far away. We don't get guilt tripped into it either because they know it will fall on deaf ears.

Just DH, DD (20) and me. Lovely and relaxing.

JacobReesMogadishu · 25/12/2020 14:47

Not great, no.

Dh did bugger all to help with Xmas dinner. Asked what time it would be on the table and then went out for a run. This was after he refused last night to make the nut roast for him and Dd (north vegi) as Dd had pissed him off. So I had to do all the dinner, make the nut roast. He rocked up 30 mins late and sat down as me and Dd were finishing. He then refused to even try my nut roast!

christmascoffee · 25/12/2020 14:48

I am thank you, me, my partner and just turned 2 DS. This year has really made me appreciate the small things!

ElsieLouise13 I'm pleased for you, would give anything to have a horse.

I'm having a lovely relaxing day.
Watched midnight mass together last night.
Smoked salmon and champagne for breakfast.
Flocks of birds on the garden feeders.
The kids all home from uni.
House full of laughter.
Stunned at the thoughtfulness of their gifts esp DD who tracked down a rare out of print book for me. It's about my granny and we knew the book existed but have never read it.
Facetimed our families this morning and watched them open their gifts.

About to have dinner.
Utterly grateful to be alive and content that I have done my absolute best to help those who are struggling this year.

We are hugely fortunate. And appreciative. And contemplative of those less so. To the extent we also take steps to contribute but that’s another thread entirely.

To those whose days could be better, I hope they will become so one day.

Autumnchill · 25/12/2020 15:06

Perfect day. Early morning walk along the beach to watch sunrise, then home, Bucks Fizz and a bath.

We started food prep, opened presents, had phone calls with parents, champagne, FaceTime with Sisters and just finished off a stress free fantastic turkey dinner. Now for red wine, binge watching Peaky Blinders and in an hour or so Sticky Toffee Pudding and later Cheese Board.

It's been absolutely near perfect 😊

Rowgtfc72 · 25/12/2020 15:06

W'ere having a lovely day thanks.
I'm watching 'our zoo' dvd. Dd is over the moon with her presents, dh is playing with his new lego.
We had pizza for dinner and managed to do skype present opening with my brother in london.
Perfect.

DJattheendoftheworld · 25/12/2020 15:11

I'm having a great day. DS very excited by his stocking and presents. We spent all morning playing together. Now we're watching Klaus and drinking hot choc. Will have nice but not fussy Christmas dinner when DH gets in from work. So relaxing. And no one bought me anything, which is excellent.

bengalcat · 25/12/2020 15:15

Having a fab day - took the dog to Hyde Park in her Santa hat and we’ve watched The Grinch and Last Christmas - making a trifle as no one likes Christmas pudding ( except me ) and looking forward to dinner later and a glass of 🍸

TeddyBeans · 25/12/2020 15:19

We are! It's just me and DS (2.5) and we've had a brilliant day so far. A bit of a lie in, chilled present opening, christmas dinner at 1 (DS barely touched his but that's okay, he's going through a fussy phase) with chocolate gateaux for pudding. We've played with his new toys and are now chilling on the sofa watching cbeebies. It's been the most chilled out, stressless christmas ever ❤️

troppibambini · 25/12/2020 15:21

Yep it's good, I'm doing all the cooking but I really not bothered by it.... my mum isn't here which I'm a bit gutted about but totally understand. We've face timed, lots of kids all playing and favourite uncle has been building Lego and playing dinosaurs.
I'm taking 5 mins to myself drinking champagne and being on my phone.
Merry Christmas Smile

Chuckleknuckles · 25/12/2020 15:22

Me. I’m on my second bottle of champagne and feel hazy and find myself smiling into mid air. All is well with the world.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 25/12/2020 15:23

Definitely having a nice day. Lovely and sunny. Spoke to family on the phone. Everyone liked their presents. Fire now on and bellies full. All safe and well and despite being in Tier 4 no one was left by themselves, even if it meant slight rule bending. The 95 year old wasn't going to be left alone.

I haven't had a belly full of prosecco this year and l'm enjoying it more.

Gingernaut · 25/12/2020 15:25

Been quiet.

A paint effect I wanted has come out ok on an old piece of plywood

Waiting for an online show to start.

Mmn654123 · 25/12/2020 15:30

I’m having a lovely day.

Bought a chocolate pudding in a farm shop last month just in case I fancied it today. OMG. Best ever. Coles triple chocolate pudding. Going into a food coma now.......!

PerhapsOverlyWorried · 25/12/2020 15:31

Aside from ASD DS ruining the table it’s been quite nice. Quiet, but our christmases are always quiet stay at home just us so nothings really changed there. Kids have had a blast, I’m feeling quite Merry and looking forward to setting the Christmas pudding on fire once our dinners gone down a bit Xmas Grin honestly I really needed today, such a long rubbish year that today’s cheer has been badly needed!

Christmasfairy2020 · 25/12/2020 15:33

Yes but 10 nearly 11 year old had me up at 4am Angry I finally got up at 7am when the 6 ye old was awake

positivevibes88 · 25/12/2020 15:33

The day itself had potential to be lovely. DS woke up at 8.30, we did presents and breakfast, had a shower and went to my mums. No in laws as they live abroad. Got some beautiful gifts.
But I feel SO SICK. I've been wretching and had to stay out the way to avoid the smell of my poor dads hard work turkey dinner.
I'm due on soon so I think it's either pre menstrual or I'm pregnant. Either way it's took the shine off the day for me a bit, but DH, DS and parents are having a nice day so that's the main x

Olivetreekeeper · 25/12/2020 15:35

I'm missing family but we having a nice quiet day with just me and DH and doggo. Lots of food, watching TV and about to put the dinner on. Had a lie in this morning!

porcelinaofthevastoceanss · 25/12/2020 15:39

Having a wonderful, relaxed day. This time last year my DS was in hospital and it was a thoroughly miserable Christmas. My Christmas present was this day - him being well and me being able to see him open his presents and be excited and happy, we’ve had a lovely lunch and are now sliding into the lulls with some chocolate and telly.
