Maybe people just don't post when things are going well, but the top 5 threads in my feed seem to be about a ruined Christmas, a fucked Christmas, a Christmas in tatters, someone who is fuming and someone else who didn't get to see her children open their stockings.

OP posts:

Yes! I am missing my Dad who passed away recently, but having a lovely quiet day. The DCs liked their presents, DP has been wonderful and I loved the dinner I cooked (roasties went crispy, tasty gravy, great turkey!)

Boysarebackintown · 25/12/2020 15:45

Very relaxed here. First time ever I haven't cooked dinner, my two DS are cooking! I’ve had a few Buck’s Fizz and a few blinis watching Its a wonderful life ...... I’m quite hungry now but cannot wait for the dinner - it’ll be special. Wishes to all those not having such a good day.

praepondero · 25/12/2020 15:49

So far so wonderful! Had way too much champagne last night as we start celebrating on Christmas Eve. Fabulous food and really good fun. Hangover not so nice, working on it though Grin. About to check on the beef in the oven and sorting out the dress to wear.

Ho ho ho...

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 25/12/2020 15:52

A wonderful day BUT where has the time gone?! Today has just disappeared!

Campalumpa · 25/12/2020 15:56

DS said ‘this is the best Christmas ever’ and then started crying as he is so knackered having not slept last night.

Cake7 · 25/12/2020 15:57

We are! Lovely and relaxed.

The best bit is it's the first xmas dd(11) has been excited and really enjoyed Xmas! She has autism and didn't use to cope at all. She would spend the day having a meltdown, being overloaded and hated getting presents. This year she has been overexcited but most importantly happy! We also got turkey instead of the usual chicken we have to buy for her and she didn't refuse to eat. All I all the best xmas ever.

We have not long finished dinner so we are all now resting for the rest of the day, me especially as I feel like I may explode.

MiaMarshmallows · 25/12/2020 15:57

It's been awful. Missing DP and his kids terribly.
Roll on next year for huge family get togethers.

Wejustdontknow · 25/12/2020 15:58

I have had a really lovely day, dc got up at 7 and opened presents, dp got me a wonderful smart watch, then after breakfast we visited in-laws then my mum to exchange gifts, socially distanced I will add, back home for dinner then had a play with a couple of new toys. I’m now laid in the bath as our shower broke last night and I have work tomorrow. This afternoon will consist of new pj’s, chocolates, baileys, trifle, maybe some cheese and crackers or a turkey and stuffing sandwich and a movie and more game playing. Merry Christmas everyone x

LindaEllen · 25/12/2020 16:00

I am actually. Not a normal Christmas; but a nice day all the same!

Bouledeneige · 25/12/2020 16:03

Just me and DD20 today. I popped into see my Dad who's 91 this morning. He was fussing about his hospital appointments, getting a vaccination and his tax return! Yay!

Came home and DD and I did stockings and presents then cooking. We played Drunk, Stoned and Stupid including allocating cards to her absent Dad (XH) and brother drinking champagne.

We are now slumped in the sofa watching movies. I can't work out if she's fed up or tired. Maybe both. We have a family zoom call at 5pm.

Babyroobs · 25/12/2020 16:07

Yes we are having a nice day although my four kids who are late teens/ early twenties are drinking quite a bit an getting merry but hope it stays fun.

Butterbeeeen · 25/12/2020 16:07

Lovely day here. Very relaxed as recovering from surgery so DH has been in charge of pretty much everything. Happy children, lovely dinner what is there not to love

Nottherealslimshady · 25/12/2020 16:08

Having a lovely day. Up at 8, lots of lovely presents to open between us, had some chill time before starting dinner and saw baby kicking through my belly. Found out our next door neighbours are also pregnant and due 4 weeks after us! PILs came and we had an incredible dinner, now DH, FIL and Ddog are snoring in sync Grin

Bluewavescrashing · 25/12/2020 16:08

Pretty good day here. DCs have been playing really nicely (for a change) and didn't wake me til 7.30. DH cooked a legendary roast. Only one meltdown so far from DD which was over quickly. DH surprised me with a really lovely present. Nice little walk locally this afternoon. We have zoomed family which worked well.

espressoontap · 25/12/2020 16:20

I am really happy. First Christmas in years spent at home just us, ILs came round this am but left after an hour. Cooked my first Christmas roast, which was a success! Currently feeding DD chilling out upstairs. Heavenly. This is all I've ever wanted for a Christmas, every year we normally go here, there and everywhere

catlovingdoctor · 25/12/2020 16:22

Have loved it so far. Relaxed and indulgent at home for the first time in some years. Have loved not having to go to one of my nightmare siblings who usually talk down to me, try and tell me what to do or belittle me in some way.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 25/12/2020 16:23

Average here
I should enjoy the time off and chill
But I’m expecting a degree of family togetherness that doesn’t usually happen (single mum to two sons)
Anyway will digest my lunch and watch a movie 🎥
Alone !

Ginfordinner · 25/12/2020 16:26

I wonder how many families will now realise that just a nuclear family Christmas is the stress free way forward.

Lurcherloves · 25/12/2020 16:27

The best ever. So chilled love my little family

Deadringer · 25/12/2020 16:31

Just finished a gorgeous, stress free dinner. We never have guests on Christmas day so we can please ourselves, our family (7 in all) is big enough to make it a lovely, festive occasion.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/12/2020 16:36

Ours has been great. Dh was ill last night so I cracked on with dinner & we ate together. Then we watched the queens speech.

Job done.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 25/12/2020 16:39

Most of my feed is full of happy Christmases. Miner however is shit. Spent ages cooking a meal that one child refused to eat. The other ones mental health is so poor that he had to eat it in his room. (D)h did bugger all to help. Dd1 helped a bit but no one thanked me or made an attempt to do washing up. I have pissed off upstairs to get pissed.

oneglassandpuzzled · 25/12/2020 16:39

Doesn’t work if you have elderly widowed parents who want to be with you.
16purplecolour16 · 25/12/2020 16:46

A solo Christmas here. Still in pjs. Just enjoying a guilt free lazy day Grin

Frenchiethesnowman · 25/12/2020 16:52

We've had a lovely day. Kids liked the presents. Face timed my family. The kids just went with their dad. I'm a bit pissed so I'm going to have a little nap in the couch & enjoy the peace.
