Maybe people just don't post when things are going well, but the top 5 threads in my feed seem to be about a ruined Christmas, a fucked Christmas, a Christmas in tatters, someone who is fuming and someone else who didn't get to see her children open their stockings.

OP posts:
LaLaLanded · 25/12/2020 13:10

Yes, really lovely.

DS loved his stocking, DP has given himself a break and bought all the sides from M&S so is super chilled about lunch. My sister has come over and we’ve zoom called with both sides of the family who seem well, even amongst different tiers.

Champagne has been drunk, pastries and smoked salmon eaten. It’s different but actually less stressful.

Audreyseyebrows · 25/12/2020 13:10

Me! I’m at work (lunch break) and having a great day!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/12/2020 13:11

I am disappointed I can't see DD who is down south, and shortly to go in tier 4, without even kissing tier 3, but DH and I are having a nice quiet crimbo. Hopefully next year we'll all be able to be with those we love.

CatholicKidston · 25/12/2020 13:14

Yeah it's fine. We're still in pyjamas - think I'll get into the bath with DS (3) then get dressed for lunch.

CarinaMarina · 25/12/2020 13:14

Yes, I'm loving it. No travel, no forced jollity with people who are a massive PITA. Obviously it's a bit quiet, but DH and I don't mind. We've been for an hours bracing walk on the beach, turkey crown is in, veg is prepped, and I've just made a pear and raspberry crimble crumble.

There is a tinge of sadness that normally my DM would be with us, and it's her birthday today - she died in May, but it's okay she was fed up with horrible Alzheimer's anyway. I might bring her ashes down so she can watch the queen later. Smile

The dog had a double-ended explosion at 4am which necessitated use of the carpet cleaner, but he seems okay so it hasn't dulled our enjoyment of the day!

JorisBonson · 25/12/2020 13:15

I'm eating twiglets and drinking an espresso martini. I'm having a lovely time.

KateF · 25/12/2020 13:17

I'm having a lovely quiet day. The dds are at their father's so it's just me and ddog. I'm eating things I like, been for a lovely walk in the sunshine and about to have roast chicken. This afternoon will probably involve a nap and later a good book. I have Radio 4 for company and looking forward to seeing my girls and exchanging presents tomorrow.

Makingnumber2 · 25/12/2020 13:21

Yep having a lovely day here so far! Toddler has been excited and loved all her presents and we have spent time playing and setting up some of them. We’ve watched Zog and Gruffalo’s child and we are just enjoying the peace and quiet of nap time. There was a minor amount of tension around zoom time with one side of the family but all over and done with now! It’s not our usual kind of Christmas but so far a quiet Christmas doesn’t feel as bad as I feared.

SuitedandBooted · 25/12/2020 13:22

It's a crisp sunny day. Just been out with the dog. Everyone loved their presents. New TV is awesome, and I got the headphones I wanted.

No travel, no frantically stuffing the car with gifts and leaving the coats behind etc,

Perfect.

rumerhasit · 25/12/2020 13:28

Yes!! Despite my dh not being here, I am having a great, relaxing day!! I miss him but all is ok. He will be home mid January.

DBML · 25/12/2020 13:29

We had a lovely evening last night; Christmas dinner; homemade gingerbread; Christmas movie; hot chocolate with marshmallows and Christmas Eve boxes.

Got up this morning. At 9am, watched DS (15) open his presents, he’s had the new iPad and is delighted. I enjoyed giving gifts to DH as I put a lot of thought into what to get him this year and then I had some lovely things myself.

Tidied the room again and ate more gingerbread (it really is good) and now I’m chilling just before DH and I cook together.

As we’ve had our turkey dinner already, today we are having Chicago style pizza pies with the cheese at the bottom and the sauce on top. It’s our favourite and we make it from scratch! We’ve already made a ginger and white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. I love cooking with DH, we have a lot of fun - he’s a great stirrer!

Later, we’ll play a board game and drink Bailey’s and we’ll fill up with chocolate I suspect.

Lovely day. Hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas.

PerkingFaintly · 25/12/2020 13:45

Lovely day here too.Smile

Brief but lovely emails from family coming in from around the globe since the Australians started last night; and it will continue until the west coast Americans go to sleep.

R3 tinkling gently in the background.

Food in the fridge.

My New Year's resolution for 2020 even before Covid was to spend less of my time on people who don't have time for me – and more on people who do.

So for the first time in decades I'm sitting here quite content with the friends & family I've got, rather than feeling sad because of the (nominally closer) ones who don't have time for me at Christmas.

butterpuffed · 25/12/2020 14:05

Thanks God for this thread ~ on my own this year due to covid , otherwise I wouldn't be in here.

I almost wished I hadn't as all the threads I saw were full of unhappy people which didn't help then I found this one !

Spoken to my sister, son and daughter and will chat to my brother later on. All in all it's turning out ok , about to have lunch and at least I didn't have to cook sprouts this year Grin

butterpuffed · 25/12/2020 14:08

'due to covid situation, didn't mean I have it.

ssd · 25/12/2020 14:09

I'm having a bloody great day.
Turkey crown is in the oven, I'm in bed getting a rest.

Its great.

I know xmas will be shite for a lit of folk and I'm sorry Flowers

sausagepastapot · 25/12/2020 14:12

We are having a nice day, dinner was amazing so I am chuffed with myself, amazing gifts. But every now and then it hits me and feel like shit. But we will have a nice one regardless, and make all the more effort next year.

S0CKS · 25/12/2020 14:20

Fairly! Had a lovely time this morning swapping presents and seeing relatives on door step visits have received some lovely thoughtful gifts. Husband is playing on the xbox whilst I have a browse of mumsnet the dog snoring on my legs we've had salmon cream cheese bagels for lunch. However, it's far from the Christmas we had intended in lots of ways and I do struggle with my infertility at Christmas time though I love seeing my friends kids so its sad I don't get to do that this year.

ChristmasUserName2020 · 25/12/2020 14:22

Me! Got the pressie I asked for (air pods) plus one I wasn’t expecting but still wanted which was a kindle. Lovely and chilled today, just the 4 of us. DH loved his gift, as did DS.

HighSpecWhistle · 25/12/2020 14:25

Yes we're having a lovely day. All in good moods. Presents going down well. Lots of yummy snacks before dinner later on. Most importantly were keeping it casual so it's all good.

Borderterrierpuppy · 25/12/2020 14:27

Yep
Kids up at 8,
Presents well received, no meltdowns from autistic ds.
Walked the dog, met lots of other lovely people doing same.
Leftover lunch, having big dinner tonight.
Now g+t in hand with dog on my lap, lovely.
Merry Christmas everyone x

bakereld · 25/12/2020 14:27

Not really great.

Didn't sleep well. Had to wake up early to WFH. All I've had is photos from family getting pissed up and having a great time and asking why am I working on Xmas day...Confused

So no, not the best.

Pomegranatemolasses · 25/12/2020 14:30

Having a lovely day. Cooked Christmas dinner yesterday, the full works, so today is lobster and steak. DC bought lovely thoughtful presents. May every Christmas day be as relaxing!

Elsielouise13 · 25/12/2020 14:32

Really lovely. We rode out horses this morning with the dogs. My husband prepared fantastic brunch type snacks and we ate them in front of log burner. Now sipping champagne wearing my new diamonds whilst children play and DH makes dinner. DH looking after me like am princess for no reason other than he wants to. He loved his gifts, children loving their PS5.... and I don’t feel guilty that we are home alone just us.

And this is actually real. If you’d’ve told me this could be my future 15 years ago I would have laughed at you.

GlowingOrb · 25/12/2020 14:35

A little sleepy because dd woke us up the second the clock hit 7. That was our don’t wake us before time so she must have been watching the clock.

It’s been a wonderful, relaxed day.

LunaNorth · 25/12/2020 14:35

Fantastic. Beautiful gifts, family here, 5k run, delicious dinner, and best of all, I’m having my first sober Christmas.

Content and sleepy now.
