Maybe people just don't post when things are going well, but the top 5 threads in my feed seem to be about a ruined Christmas, a fucked Christmas, a Christmas in tatters, someone who is fuming and someone else who didn't get to see her children open their stockings.

We are having a nice day. We’ve done presents, video calls with family, little stroll outside, TV, chilling and playing and lots of eating. It’s not what we had planned but trying to keep grateful for all the small things.

MistletoeandGin · 25/12/2020 18:14

@Ginfordinner

I wonder how many families will now realise that just a nuclear family Christmas is the stress free way forward.
We always have that, as all our family are either dead or live abroad. I’d love a big family Christmas.

We are in a similar boat to you @MistletoeandGin, and like you I would love a large family gathering. I get a bit irritated at the "I hate having a large family Christmas" threads that proliferate every year because, with the exception of last year, it is just the three of us, and we do actually get on with the family we have left, but we are all so scattered these days.

DecemberDiana · 25/12/2020 19:01

All fine here.

Missing relatives further away but at least for us that was always the plan, well for the last couple of months.

IrishCream123 · 25/12/2020 19:03

Nope, I have a tummy bug (day 3) so we made the decision to try and have our Christmas dinner tomorrow. Husband and our 2 Teens had frozen pizza for dinner.

PicaK · 25/12/2020 19:05

Yes. We got divorced this year. We've been amicable and pulled it off for the kids incorporating new traditions for our "divorced" 2 household set up that would incorporate possible new partners.
In a year when we've both said horrible stuff and done silly things, that's worth celebrating. And the kids enjoyed it.

roastedpudding · 25/12/2020 19:29

Yes, I've had a great day with my teenagers and an impromptu Christmas coffee and biscuits on the drive.

MarshaBradyo · 25/12/2020 19:33

Yes all good here

3 year old had a few over hyped moments but everyone else brilliant

PumpkinPie2016 · 25/12/2020 19:38

I've had a nice day Xmas Smile Was me, DH and 7 year old DS this morning. Got up just before 8am, opened presents which DS was happy with, had breakfast, played with DS and prepped veg.

DH went for MiL at 1ish (she is lovely but not a morning person!). Then a nice, chilled afternoon, made dinner for about 5.30pm which was lovely. Have cleared up and had coffee. All too full for pudding. Running DS bath now and DH will take MiL home soon.

Quieter than normal as we usually gather with more family but obviously can't do that this year but still a nice day.

I always try to remember how very lucky we are -we have a home, are financially secure and in good health. That's more than many can say.

Lovely one here. Not usual, but lovely.

Sorry that not everyone is having a good day, happy for those who are.

SexyGiraffe · 25/12/2020 19:43

Really nice one here. We live abroad and were not able to be with family in the UK for obvious reasons. Most of the day it's just been the three of us (me, DH and DD ages 7), but some friends came over for champagne this morning and then we had a long lazy lunch and just finished watching Muppet Christmas Carol. It's just been quite chilled. Planning to get out for several long walks over the next few days to work off some of the Christmas chocolate!

Falalalalafel · 25/12/2020 19:47

Lovely day.

The sun was out, had a walk on the beach, my teens were good company and DH surprised me with totally unexpected and lovely gifts.

Dinner was amazing, but I’ve overdone it and feel a bit sick now 😆. The trifle was the final straw....

Was going to watch Call the Midwife while the kids do a Zoom with their cousins and DH talks to his brother in the USA, but have retired to bed for an hour instead. Mmmm lovely bed!

It’s been a lovely, low-key, relaxing day and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

Merry Christmas 🎄

diamondpony80 · 25/12/2020 20:09

Been pretty busy and not really relaxing but I’ve enjoyed it. The kids were happy with their presents, we all enjoyed the meal and everything went according to plan. Afternoon was spent on zoom which I’m not that keen on but was the only way to catch up with my parents and siblings as we didn’t travel for Christmas this year. I’d have liked a chance to sit down with nothing to do but watch tv for a while, but should get that tomorrow as we’ve plenty food left over & kids will be busy with their new stuff.

laudemio · 25/12/2020 20:15

Yes, we had a lovely day with a perfect Christmas lunch 😊

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 25/12/2020 20:22

We have also had one of our best Christmases with the kids ever. They've all been so grateful, happy and lovely, no arguments or stress, I'm shocked but very happy! Our 6 year old wandered around in a happy daze most of the day just saying, I love all my presents mum Xmas Smile

HTH1 · 25/12/2020 20:25

Yes, literally my best ever (great food, amazing presents (because pretty much all of them were bought by me Wink), doing exactly what we wanted when we wanted with no feeling of guilt, obligation, imposing on others etc).

Gertie75 · 25/12/2020 20:28

We're having a great Christmas Day too, we always have the day at home together with no visitors so it's been the same as ever other.
The kids have loved their presents and are now 5 and 7 so still believe the magic but are past the excitement induced tantrums.
The turkey was cooked to perfection and we've played games since.
It's been a lovely end to a rubbish year.

Lndnmummy · 25/12/2020 20:29

It’s been wonderful. Both boys slept in until 8.30 then a small breakfast with lots of coffee. Both boys happy with gifts and played happily until lunch time. Lovely and low effort dinner (lamb roast) then a walk followed by a movie in the afternoon. Kids now asleep and I’m drinking Prosecco with dh and eating mince pies. Complete bliss

Di11y · 25/12/2020 21:30

Lovely day. 3 and 6 yos not up til 7:20 (I was waiting for them to wake!) Appreciated their presents. 3yo overwhelmed a couple of times but the girls played beautifully together, food was delish, I got a couple of lovely surprise gifts and was v chilled.

QueenofLouisiana · 25/12/2020 21:33

We have had a nice day. First time we’ve been at home for Christmas in years as we usually take our main family holiday now. Lazy morning, lunch was nice (bit thrown together as I’m isolating so relied on ordering and making do). Then we all read our Christmas books or snoozed, now watching TV.

Yes it’s often tough to read isn’t it? Flowers hope you had a lovely day.
LoveMyKidsAndCats · 25/12/2020 23:40

My partner keeps saying how he will 'help me'. Like he just waited for me to get out the bath then said he will 'help me' tidy up 2 minutes worth of mess in the kitchen. Was basically putting picky food back in the fridge. Like he couldn't manage it on his own. Pisses me off. He said its in case he put something in the wrong place. Wtf. He also said he helped me by washing up after dinner. I don't say I helped him out by spending all day cooking a roast. Grrrr.

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 25/12/2020 23:42

Mine could have been better 😂🙈

BlueThistles · 25/12/2020 23:45

wonderful day.. loved my gifts by DH and my kids too ... just a nice relaxed fun day all round 🌟🎄

RaininSummer · 25/12/2020 23:59

I have had a lovely day. The most time I have been able to spend with my daughters and granddaughters since last March. I am lucky that they are close enough for it to work this year.
