Maybe people just don't post when things are going well, but the top 5 threads in my feed seem to be about a ruined Christmas, a fucked Christmas, a Christmas in tatters, someone who is fuming and someone else who didn't get to see her children open their stockings.

Wonderful. Our DS came home from his care home after we all had tests. Didn't think it was going to happen- have gone from heartbreak to heart soaring in less than a week.

Merry Christmas everyone 🎁🎄❤️

cyclingmad · 25/12/2020 10:41

Yup just woke up, sun is starting to come out I'm gonna hydrate and go for a bike ride, come back and scoff food and watch movies rest of the day!

Bliss

tinkywinkyshandbag · 25/12/2020 10:42

Yes nice quiet start with a cup of tea in bed, my girls are 19 and 16 so we haven't done a lot yet, still loads of presents to open, then we are having lunch with my in laws who live in the same village. I'm missing my Mum who sadly we can't see this year, but otherwise all is well. Last night we had party food and watched Love Actually. It's taken me many years to be fair but I've learned to let go of any expectations, it's not about having a "perfect" day that's planned with military precision, it's more about being relaxed and just enjoying the day as it unfolds. Happy Christmas xxx

MajesticWhine · 25/12/2020 10:42

Good so far. Had stocking presents and a cooked breakfast. Everyone happy. Gonna get dressed now.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/12/2020 10:43

I'm having a nice day so far. DD stayed with her BF in her uni town, I had a lovely long witter with her last night and we'll zoom later. DH and I aren't bothering 'doing Christmas', it's quite liberating!Grin
My concessions to Xmas are that I've eaten a satsuma and put some spice and brandied raisins in my breakfast apple and yogurt.

DH is having a morning snuggle with the old dog, which is unusual, he's usually a mummy's boy. I've got to wrap up something for him to open for the Zoom with Dd, he gets so excited even though it's just his usual treats. The dog, obv, not DH.

Pamperedpet · 25/12/2020 10:44

We're fine. Teenagers like their presents, and so do we. They are all thoughtful. It's much quieter than w are used to, but we'll zoom with family and make the best of it. We'll enjoy our dinner too.

Levrierssontmeilleurs · 25/12/2020 10:44

Yes me - ive done two lovely dog walks in really nice bright frosty weather. Ive had a couple of presents from people I didn’t expect which has been really nice.

Going to play some Christmas tunes & relax now

We slept til 9, i am on the sofa full to the brim with tea and chocolate, dc, (including adults) are playing together on the switch, and dh is in the kitchen faffing about with the turkey. I am not big on the 'magic' of Christmas, but everyone seems happy, so i am content.

MoreJammyDodgersPlease · 25/12/2020 10:47

Yes, me too! Had a lie in, might go for a walk in the sunshine.

Whythesadface · 25/12/2020 10:48

DD a teen got me up at 6.30.
We opened gifts, then went back to bed, I just woke up to her chatting to friends on zoom.

Rollingpiglet · 25/12/2020 10:48

Lovely here so far. DS got up at a sensible time and seemed happy with his stocking. Waiting for other family to arrive before we open the rest of the presents. Turkey is in, Christmas music on. People don't generally post when everything is fine. I feel very lucky to have a nice family to spend the day with!

Gonkytonk · 25/12/2020 10:49

Mines lovely. DD super chuffed with her gifts and got up at 7am which I can handle. DH happy with his gifts too and mine are lovely thoughtful things. Opened bucks fuzz at 9am. Gifts already tidied upstairs and I’ve got mahoosive prawn cocktails for lunch. Happy day Xmas Smile

meow1989 · 25/12/2020 10:49

I mean Christmas with a 2.5 year old isn't relaxing but its a pretty good day.

Ds woke at half 5 so came into bed and snuggled whilst I popped stick man on my phone, then dh took him.for half hour so I dozed.

Made pancakes for breakfast which dh and I ate but ds wanted porridge then opened some presents.

I'm.trying to have today with little expectation of magic and tip top behaviour because... well he is 2!

About to start dinner after a quick walk and some gingerbread

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/12/2020 10:50

@WilsonMilson sorry things aren’t going well. Hope life improves soon. Flowers

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/12/2020 10:50

We are. Just me and dh but lots of little vids of the Gdcs opening their stockings and other presents. Smoked salmon and bagels for breakfast - dh has had chocolate too - Father Christmas brought him some - I’m still in my dressing gown and going to prep the veg before I go for a shower.
Buck’s Fizz and tree presents once we’re both dressed. 🥂

RosamundePilcher · 25/12/2020 10:51

We do-lovely and calm.
I started early to sort everything out- as I didn't want any hassle and unnecessary stress.
Kiddos enjoying their gifts, just great.🥂🌲🌲💫🕊🤍🌿

leiaskye · 25/12/2020 10:51

Yes, I am

Youngest got up at 8, we came downstairs at 8.30. All presents opened. Breakfast, smoked salmon & scrambled egg on toast eaten. Glass of Buck’s Fizz.

I’m currently sitting watching telly with some the children & chocolate whilst DH takes the dogs out.

Only grumbly bit is I forgot butter for the turkey!

Hoping DH finds an open shop whilst out.

BrumBoo · 25/12/2020 10:52

Nothing to complain about, which seems unusual for MN. Makes me think we're doing it wrong....

Had lovely thoughtful gifts from the husband, which he didn't need reminding to get. Children kindly stayed asleep until 8, and even though they had a slight argument over sharing, are now quite happily ruining the floor with Play-Doh together. Only downside is that I can't have a glass (or 5) of wine this year, but not the end of the world. Plus not having to get up 500 times to make tea for in-laws is a bit of a bonus...

Mumski45 · 25/12/2020 10:53

All good so far DS1 (15) was up for cuddles at 8 and DS2 (13) got up at 8:30 which is early for him but he wanted to watch the Grufflalo at 9.

Opened all presents and they have all gone down well. Boys and DH had made efforts to make sure there were pressies for me although one had not arrived so it was in the form of a print out of the order.
We had pancakes for breakfast and going to have meal mid afternoon so turkey not going in till later - just the 4 of us so it's only a small one.

Overall a lovely morning.

Vivana · 25/12/2020 10:53

No I'm at work caring for a sick covid resident

ForestYeti · 25/12/2020 10:54

Lovely morning here, kids up at 7 opening stockings on my bed, done all presents downstairs, parents been with their presents, now on cooking dinner 🍲

Dionysus78 · 25/12/2020 10:55

My 6yo got up to open her presents without making me get up. That's good enough for me.

MrsMiaWallis · 25/12/2020 10:55

Lovely so far. Got up at 7 with dd3, went to do the horses, came back, the dds did stockings, then had a lovely breakfast. I've gone back to bed for 30 mins then we'll open champagne and do the big presents.

TwentyViginti · 25/12/2020 10:55

Alone and loving it! Throw in the oven food, chocolate, naice biscuits, peace and quiet. Bliss!
