Maybe people just don't post when things are going well, but the top 5 threads in my feed seem to be about a ruined Christmas, a fucked Christmas, a Christmas in tatters, someone who is fuming and someone else who didn't get to see her children open their stockings.

@Bunnyrun5

Happy Christmas everyone, I’m having a lovely day so far had call from youngest son aged 31 told me on a zoom call him and his partner are pregnant! So our first grandchild we’ve had glass of bubbly and a slow dance to Michael buble oh happy days.
Xmas Wink The BEST christmas post yet!!
BigGreen · 25/12/2020 11:41

Lovely! Kids have loved their presents, watching Christmas movies, with a big chicken in the oven. Tons of prep done so no rushing around. I miss my family loads but it was nice not to have to travel.

MessAllOver · 25/12/2020 11:42

We are Smile. DS3 slept till around 7.30. We watched videos upstairs until 8 and then had a nice warm bath and played with his new bath toy. DH got up at 9.30 (my lie-in tomorrow, yay!) and we gave DS his present from us. It was such a hit he's ignoring all other presents/his Santa sack so feeling quite smug Wink.

Just about to have eggs and pancakes for brunch. And since we've moved Christmas dinner to 5pm to suit ourselves and we only have a turkey crown, it's hours before I have to even think about cooking!

Fashionablylate1999 · 25/12/2020 11:43

I'm having a lovely Christmas-- on my own this year as in Tier 4 & DC at their dad's for a week. Had a nice lie in after watching Midnight Mass last night, this morning I have had video calls with my nieces and nephews and my mum and been for a walk with my friend. Now just a nice relaxing afternoon ahead watching whatever I want on TV, reading, eating whatever I can be bothered to cook and waiting for the DC to call me when they're free.

delilahbucket · 25/12/2020 11:44

Yes a fantastic day so far. DS is thrilled with his more grown up gift selection this year, I got what I asked for from dp, had mimosas and a bacon butty for breakfast and just squeezing in a bit of MN before I put the turkey in at 12. Nothing much different today for us, as we always stay at home just the three of us, but no family party on the 27th like we usually have and I'm really missing my friends. Our zoom Christmas party just wasn't the same. We're making the most of it though and as ds said "we're happy because we've got each other and we're spending the day together".

ChristmasinJune · 25/12/2020 11:44

Yes, my family and I get on well. There's unlikely to be any major drama just a quiet, simple Christmas Day this year. I don't post about it because it isn't particularly interesting..... you've hit the nail on the head, people post to complain on the whole.

Retiremental · 25/12/2020 11:45

Nice chilled day here so far. So chilled I was going to postpone the turkey until tomorrow but the troops say no Xmas Grin
Merry Christmas all and hope things improve for those who need them to!!

Merryoldgoat · 25/12/2020 11:47

I’m having a very nice day.

I have had lots of lovely gifts from DH, PIL gave me some lovely gifts too PLUS £500 just for me (and DH the same).

My sons loved their gifts and have been just the right side of excited.

I’m 97% Ferrero Rocher.

SquigglePigs · 25/12/2020 11:49

Yep. My 2yr old is really into it. She spent over half an hour playing with a bag of hair bobbles out of her stocking!!

She didn't wake up til 6.10, which is a lie in compared to recently.

My parents are here and whilst I'm sad it's not the several days we were hoping for, I'm focusing on enjoying watching them play with DD and feeling lucky we're getting this much - they live one street over from a tier 4 boundary and go into tier 4 tomorrow so we're very lucky to get today. I'm just refusing to think about when we next get to see them!

And to top it off, my DH, who is amazing in so many ways but fairly rubbish with presents (generous and will buy me whatever I ask for but little imagination), has even managed to surprise me with a little, but absolutely perfect gift!

For me the key thing feels like focusing on the little things and forgetting about the rubbish big things. Hope everyone manages to find done joy in their day.

Jocasta2018 · 25/12/2020 11:49

I'm on my own this Christmas & I'm having a lovely time. I have Skype calls booked throughout the day, the house is very festive & Ive got a pizza to throw in the oven later on. I slept between clean sheets & clean pyjamas last night then woke up at 9am to a reasonably clean house, an empty litter tray & it was glorious.

However I've locked down alone twice already this year so have got that way of life pretty much sussed now.
I miss family & friends but luckily I did get to see some over the summer & modern technology has meant catch-ups have been easy.
Plus I did cancel my Xmas plans of my own choice rather than having it forced on me. My spider senses started to tingle when they announced London went into Tier 4 - the numbers in my area were also rising & it was only a matter of time - so I made the decision back on the 16th. I was very disappointed - there were tears - but have now made my peace with it.
I can imagine if you were hoping to do Xmas & it was taken away from you would feel very different.

So take care everyone & if today isn't perfect or as planned then please go easy on yourselves.

StopSquirtingBleachOnCaneToads · 25/12/2020 11:50

We're having a great Christmas. Couldn't be better :)

rc22 · 25/12/2020 11:50

We're having a lovely time too. Just me and DH. Had a nice brunch then coffee and presents. We're just going to have a walk and pop to say hello to my parents. Technically we could spend the day with them as usual but they are well into their 70s we didn't want to risk it. It's certainly different this year but enjoying it so far.

I think people are more likely to come on mumsnet if they're having a crappy time.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2020 11:51

It's 0645 here and I'm the only one up, except for the cats. It's been lovely so far. I had to skip my run because it's pouring rain with occasional thunder and lightning.

I'm making the holiday mashed potatoes with butter, sour cream, and cream cheese while DH and the DC sleep in. I'm listening to carols from Kings' College softly while I cook.

Happy Christmas from New York. Xmas Smile

Porcupineintherough · 25/12/2020 11:52

Yes. Its Christmas not-as-usual here. We have cv so cant even see my poor parents as planned. But no-one is really sick, everyone got some nice presents and dh is in charge of cooking Christmas dinner for once, so I'm choosing to look on the bright side.

Notdeliasmith · 25/12/2020 11:53

Lovely Christmas so far.
Certainly not the Christmas we planned as tier 4 so only us as a couple. Luckily partner is a christmas elf so has sorted the Christmas spirit out.

I have enjoyed having the first time of Christmas day with us both off in years. It's nice to go at our own pace

Best friend has announced pregnancy

I've had some thoughtful gifts. In some ways it's nice to have christmas spread out as it flies by normally, so will look foward to that time we are able to meet with others and extend Christmas a bit. Gift giving will be spread out this year

Zooming means I feel we have had some nice festivities with both sides of the family rather than having to choose one side.

I'm not saying I would like every christmas to be like this, but a nice laid back Christmas after the year we've had is much appreciated

FourTeaFallOut · 25/12/2020 11:53

I'm having a lovely day. All the gifts were well received and now all the kids are happily playing with their new stuff and we are in schedule with the Christmas dinner. No big dramas apart from the lack of Christmas crackers which never made it in time...I think we'll cope. And the Christmas table looks amazing complete with my first effort at a home made Christmas cake, I guess that could still go one of two ways. Grin

BiddyPop · 25/12/2020 11:55

Well it was going nicely until DH passed a sarcastic comment about teen DD's attire as we were all going out for a walk- now she's in the attic sulking, he's in the kitchen pissed off and I am drinking tea in the sitting room with a headache annoyed with the pair of them.

Might go for a walk on my own shortly.

horizontilting · 25/12/2020 11:55

@WilsonMilson

Absolute shit here. Ffs. I’m so close to just crying. Trying to hold it together for ds.

What a lovely thread to read! So glad everyone is having a good time, all good here! Its my grandsons 1st Christmas so looking forward to seeing the magic for him, lunch on the go and actually feeling more positive today! Raising a glass of good wishes to you all! 🥂🥂 Xx

CustardySergeant · 25/12/2020 11:55

I'm worried sick because my daughter was supposed to be here by 11am and she hasn't turned up. She lives alone an hour's drive away and we haven't heard from her. We don't want to phone in case she's driving so we're just sitting here worried sick in case she's had an accident.

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 25/12/2020 11:56

Yah but we wrote Christmas off. Just had breakfast, now watching TV, will open presents at some point but not that bothered if its today/tomorrow/whenever
No children here, though.

wonderstuff · 25/12/2020 11:59

DS (10) just declared it's his best xmas ever. Dh working on dinner. I've just finished a glass of rather nice champagne.

hugocat · 25/12/2020 12:00

Yes, lovely day so far, first Christmas living together with my partner

HermioneWeasley · 25/12/2020 12:00

Oh @CustardySergeant I hope she’s turned up

We’re having a lovely day, kids loved their stockings and presents and were actually grateful. Turkey is in the oven and have prepped everything so it will all be easy. Also feared dishwasher had died but it’s recovered so that’s a relief.

Wishing everyone a lovely day

Mrsfrumble · 25/12/2020 12:00

Congratulations @Bunnyrun5 WineFlowersWine

My day has been pretty good so far. Only minor meltdowns from the children (DH had the temerity to TOAST DS’s salmon and cream cheese breakfast bagel when he wanted it untoasted. Surely the most first world of problems...)

Church was lovely if low-key (we feel very lucky to able to go at all here in tier 4) and now the children are playing with their presents, DH us cooking lunch and I’m sitting on my arse contemplating when would be a good time to switch from drinking coffee to alcohol.
