Maybe people just don't post when things are going well, but the top 5 threads in my feed seem to be about a ruined Christmas, a fucked Christmas, a Christmas in tatters, someone who is fuming and someone else who didn't get to see her children open their stockings.

OP posts:
Lookslikerainted · 25/12/2020 12:01

I’m having the best Xmas in a long time. Kids are finally old enough to understand and enjoy, abs are really grateful for their gifts. Food is good, I’m a bottle of bolly down and got fancy face cream. Husband and youngest are having a nap while me and eldest chill out. Perfect. Merry Christmas all.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/12/2020 12:02

@WilsonMilson you feel how you feel, don’t dismiss it as silly, but perhaps try and focus on the positives you can identify.

santasmincepie · 25/12/2020 12:03

We had our Christmas yesterday, in self isolation, but it was lovely. DS is only 1 and loved his stocking. Didn't quite get the idea of opening presents but loved the contents. Spent most of the day playing with a £1.50 flashing ball Xmas Smile. I cooked my first ever Christmas Dinner and I was so bloody proud of it! Today is quiet as DP is back at work, so I'm just sitting on the sofa eating crisps while DS naps. Happy Christmas!

Is anyone having a nice day?
Sobeyondthehills · 25/12/2020 12:05

Gutted, DP and me got up at the same time, so I didn't get to drink the whole bottle of prosecco to myself while watching DS opening his presents joking

AlexaShutUp · 25/12/2020 12:07

Yes, mine has been lovely so far. Started at around 9.30 by having a cup of coffee while sitting with 15yo dd as she opened her stocking - always my favourite bit of Christmas!

Then had a breakfast of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and English muffins with bucks fizz - non-alcoholic version for me as I'm not drinking at the moment.

DD is now having a shower and I'm having my second cup of coffee. We'll do presents under the tree in a little while, and I know that dd has been working really hard on a special gift for me. I also know that she helped DH choose a present this year, which is promising as she is very good at presents and DH is not!!

Then we'll walk over to say a doorstep hello to my parents, and hopefully enjoy a bit of the lovely sunshine. Then come back, play a few board games, family zoom call and dinner, followed by It's a Wonderful Life this evening.

Different from our normal big family Christmases, but all very lovely. Smile

Lampzade · 25/12/2020 12:07

This is the first Christmas I have ever spent at home and I am really enjoying it tbh.
I do miss my other family members( including my siblings, nieces and nephews ), but I feel less stressed this year.
Not doing much, just eating and watching tv.
I didn’t bother with presents this year, just sent money to my nieces and nephews

viques · 25/12/2020 12:10

Yes lovely day so far. Two robins demanding breakfast when they spotted me through the kitchen window when I came down to make tea. They have got me well trained and have seem to have roped in a posse of sparrows to share the burden of being on watch for me in the morning.

Lots of lovely presents , with some funnies. Would I have appreciated a box of disposable gloves and a four pack of toilet paper last year?possibly not! How our perceptions change.

All the lunch prep is done, managed to forget to put the mushrooms in the nut roast but no matter, I’m not that fond of mushrooms unless they are almost caramelised in butter. I need to nip round to the shop because I didn’t get enough tonic water, so will do that now before I forget.

Hope the people having good days carry on enjoying Christmas, and that things get better for people having a bad start.

IceColdFan · 25/12/2020 12:12

Yes, we’re having a lovely, chilled lazy day. Although DH is at work and we did Christmas on the 23rd. DD’s and I are having a chilled day eating yummy food and watching TV, I’ve got a book to sit down with later and then having a little buffet style tea when DH gets home ..... if he’s not off too late.

Peeteea · 25/12/2020 12:12

Got up at 7, 15 month old has played with some of her presents and is having her midday nap just now (Went down with no fuss!)- husband and I are eating cheese, crackers and twiglets in peace. 10/10 so far.

elfycat · 25/12/2020 12:12

I got up, had nice cuddles with both cats. Quiet moment to play my online game then had a lovely chat with my DM.

Kids and DH got up, we opened the gifts, some nice things, some we good humouredly eye rolled over (SIL is awesome at never giving anything remotely to our tastes, likes or needs. The WTAF is part of our day).

Kids have now gone off to play, DH and I are back on our game while the breakfast-chocolate settles. and we can have dippy eggs and soldiers (DD2's choice) a bit later.

Going to have a fabulously chilled out day with dinner served at some point early evening.

Woollyslippers · 25/12/2020 12:13

Slightly underwhelmed. Again. Every year I make it easy and say exactly what I’d like (having been so disappointed every year since time began). So this year I did get exactly that and no more. And though I asked for chocolates, I got mint ones, which I dislike. I bought myself a wee something just coz I knew my family are pretty crap at presents and my son managed to wrap it up and give it to his Dad. It’s not the presents per se, it’s the total lack of thought and effort put in by anyone else except my daughter. It was 20 minutes to midnight and my son still hadn’t finished wrapping presents though he’s put plenty time in staring at his phone. I’m thinking this is my problem and I’m just ungrateful. But hubby is never good at buying gifts so though I said chocolates and he did buy me a lovely box of fancy ones (which he kept telling me the shop he got them in) he also bought the mint ones, and the fruit and nut fudge which he likes but I don’t. My Mum also got mint chocolates.

Lovemusic33 · 25/12/2020 12:13

I was thinking the same OP, I guess people only come on here today to moan. Our Christmas is going as well as expected, turkeys smelling good, have eaten too much chocolate and dd is having a meltdown over Lego 🤣

Floralnomad · 25/12/2020 12:14

I am , we’ve walked the dog and opened some presents here and will be going to my sisters ( we are a bubble) for Christmas dinner later , very chilled and very nice . I think some peoples expectations are unrealistic and that leads to disappointment.

Viviennemary · 25/12/2020 12:17

Me too. So depressing. But all this rushing about trying to please everyone is hopeless. I'm having a restful one this year. Going nowhere. Hurrah.

Illy605 · 25/12/2020 12:19

I got to tell all my family I’m pregnant so I’m having the best Christmas I have in years 💕

SteeperThanHell · 25/12/2020 12:20

Other than my 15 year old thinking 7.20 was a good time to get up I’m having a fantastic day. Just about to head in to the kitchen - my happy place!

Witchend · 25/12/2020 12:20

So far so good.
Ds woke at 9am, and crept downstairs. I got up at 9:30 and put the turkey on. Rest of family got up at 10:30 and all opened stockings together. Even the one who I thought might just grab stocking and open it in room as they've got thoroughly antisocial over the last few months came down and got totally excited and happy over the presents.
Two of them are now curled up over books and the third is getting the table ready.

sqirrelfriends · 25/12/2020 12:21

It's been great, tier 4 so no family pressure and this is the first year DS has really understood what's going on.

Garby · 25/12/2020 12:22

So nice to read about lots of happy people doing nice things. More of this please!

I’ve had an hour long bath, cracked open the fizz and got all the family video calls out the way. Now time to start grazing canapés!

Happy Christmas everyone.

Snackz · 25/12/2020 12:23

Being so close to my due date, we've cancelled our usual Christmas plans as we don't want to risk getting Covid. We've done doorstep visits to family this morning and will be doing more later on.

Christmas dinner is just me and DH and if I'm honest, we were dreading Christmas as we thought it would be miserable but we're having a great, chilled out day!

The main thing is that we keep safe and we're thankful for everything we have.

Merry Christmas everybody Xmas Grin

caperplips · 25/12/2020 12:25

Really lovely day here despite not being able to see anyone other than just us 3.
We've had some gorgeous & v indulgent presents - dh & dd really did pull out all the stops for me & I feel so incredibly lucky - even more so when I see threads on here
I'm drinking champagne & cooking a cooked breakfast. We won't eat dinner till tonight when we'll have the full turkey dinner
Happy Christmas to you all

MrsXx4 · 25/12/2020 12:29

PhyllisAndLucille · 25/12/2020 12:29

Yep we had a great xmas over here in Oz..weather was a perfect 27' today(grateful-its cool for a QLD summer!)..had a early morning swim. Watched bunch of nostalgic telly on Britbox with a bottle of baileys and had our fave takeaway ..The teenDC had their prezzies last week (shopping spree&fancy meal) so cruisey all round.
