Where are all the mumsnetters who:

  • are mid-millennial
  • Extremely Online
  • left wing
  • probs on Twitter
  • do not think gaming is the scourge of society and causes you to turn into a zombie
  • does not know anyone who unironically plays golf

Bonus points for ex-emo kids.

Do you exist?

I think a lot of people on here fit into the centre left.

PandemicPavolova · 23/12/2020 17:08

I shudder when people proudly declare themselves to be very left wing.. Any political extremes terrify me... Being in the middle is always far safer and more balanced.. One extreme regime and thought pattern will never suit us all.

I've studied enough and read enough to understand the sheer terror of the very left wing. I cannot fathom why anyone would openly proclaim this, unless they are imply ignorant of what they are saying. This is no different to someone saying they are very right wing.

user1471565182 · 23/12/2020 17:12

Well if you're conflating left wing automatically with stalinism you havnt read enough.

@user1471565182

HA yes Medusa I had a rave period, there was always one girl at every rave who had huuuuuuuuge bell bottom jeans with platforms on
I lived big chunky boots with platform soles - still do honestly though I can no longer walk in platforms (damn hypermobile joints)

I loved in skinny fit, leather look trousers and corsets (or corset style tops).

BertieBotts · 23/12/2020 19:24

@MedusasBadHairDay I keep wondering if you're the same Medusa I used to know on LJ? We met in a 2008 birth community.

SOmuchsparkle · 23/12/2020 21:22

@user1471565182 a Russell Group University. World class research-intensive unis. There are 24 of them.

HotButteredRumPaPumPum · 23/12/2020 21:37

How do you play golf ironically
With golf irons (sorry!) Xmas Grin

I'm 29, and I didnt know what most of the OP meant. I'm gender critical and cant stand all this #bekind bollocks

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 23/12/2020 21:41

@VictoriasCousin

I am a mid millennial and fairly left wing though. I only say fairly because I had reservations about Corbyn.
given corbyn is fairly mainstream social democrat, i think unless you had reservations because he was a bit middle of the road, you could definitely say that you are not left wing at all really ... Grin Wink
user1471565182 · 23/12/2020 21:57

Was my agricultural college (Askham Bryan) one of them? sparkle, more like BS group I reckon.

user1471565182 · 23/12/2020 21:57

Im probably a bit left to Corbyn but I just think he was useless, and in with the 'any enemy of the west is my friend' crowd.

0gfhty · 23/12/2020 22:30

This is such a crap cringy post it compelled me to post! Go away with your boring pigeonholes!

Plussizejumpsuit · 23/12/2020 22:41

I'm cringing at the idea you have to be pro Corbyn to be very left wing. Such a narrow understanding of politics.

I don't know why this thread is getting so much hate. But to hazard a guess there seems to be a significant proportion here who dislike wokeness so.....

Haggyhaggerson · 23/12/2020 23:17

I am about 93.7% convinced we mix in the same Twitter circles 😂😂

Pinkyxx · 23/12/2020 23:37

I’ve not read the who thread and perhaps I’m too old to be here but I’m genuinely curious why the younger generations seem so big on group association?

Personally I love being part of a diverse group, people who think differently to me / challenge my views etc Keeps me honest & grounded!

enchantedspleen · 23/12/2020 23:43

Meeeeeee, I wasn't emo though. I was more of a deviant art kid who liked invader zim just a little bit too much and owned lots of tie dye and very big boots.
Very left leaning, been on the internet for exactly too fuckin long, used to play pokemon competitively.
Baby is 7 months old and she is so absolutely freaking awesome. We're out there, OP!

No, Medusa is a fairly recent username for me. Sorry!

enchanted My kids were watching Invader Zim the other day and I was so happy! I've still got some Jhonen Vasquez comics somewhere too

I love being referred to as part of a younger generation Grin

Same as you though, I enjoy being around people with diverse interests and perspectives, but I also find that where some of my interests are a bit niche or unusual it is really nice to find other people who a) know what I'm talking about and b) are excited by them too.

Identifying as part of a subculture is just a quick way of knowing that other people who identify the same will, most likely, share a lot of those niche interests. It's nice not to feel like the weirdo all the time Grin

Let's list a few teen subcultures from various decades - Teddy boys, beats, flappers, rockers, bikers, hippies, freaks, mods, ravers, skinheads, metalheads, punks, New Romantics...what's your definition of younger generations? Subcultures have been a big thing for many years. This isn't a new thing.
Chuckleknuckles · 24/12/2020 00:21

I think a typical mumsnet user is mid 30s, left wing with a disabled child/children. I don’t know anyone irl who has children with disabilities. But there seems to be lots on mumsnet for some reason.

hauntedtree · 24/12/2020 00:43

What is the earlier comment about benefit bashing in reference to? I haven't seen any in this thread

user1471565182 · 24/12/2020 02:29

As we said before, subcultures have died out so by your definition young people are more into being 'part of a diverse group'?

user1471565182 · 24/12/2020 02:31

I cant be arsed to trawl back through the thread but somebody said they're left wing but dont like some aspects of the left such as benefit bashing

Thanks user1471565182 - i must have missed that post and misinterpreted the one i saw.

Re: the terf thing, some of us aren't terfs but don't speak up about it on here. I don't have the time or energy to get into arguments about it and tbh this website is so steeped in transphobia that it seems like a lost cause.

yelyah22 · 24/12/2020 04:38

Hahaha probably if you think that @haggyhaggerson - I saw someone further down describe the 'shitposting left' which I think I want on a t-shirt hahaaaa
