Where are all the mumsnetters who:

 • are mid-millennial
 • Extremely Online
 • left wing
 • probs on Twitter
 • do not think gaming is the scourge of society and causes you to turn into a zombie
 • does not know anyone who unironically plays golf

Bonus points for ex-emo kids.

Do you exist?

You sound like my DD who is at the crossover of millennial and gen z and she wouldn't be seen dead on here and even has a go at me for being here.

Is Twitter not considered old fashioned now? I know she is on discord, Reddit, TikTok and twitch and barely uses Twitter any more.

She loses points for the golf thing since we have a relative who is a professional golfer!

HazeyJaneII · 22/12/2020 20:40

Eh?
Too old to be arsed navel gazing.

Defiant · 22/12/2020 20:49

@HazeyJaneII

It's not self-contemplation. More like we're all just reminiscing about being young and all the silly things we got up to and how we can still enjoy those things. Do you not still enjoy anything from your youth?
Charlottejbt · 22/12/2020 20:57

They made me play golf in 6th form. This was in the very early 90s, so I'm not sure if irony had been invented yet ;)

I do like the way you young 'uns are so left wing. I always felt like I was in a very small minority.

MeMarmiteYouJam · 22/12/2020 20:59

Labelling oneself all the time must be exhausting.

garlictwist · 22/12/2020 21:00

I am an "old" millennial. I have read the Extremely Online wiki page and am still none the wiser.

Whereisthechicken · 22/12/2020 21:01

You've pretty much just described me - hi!

I'm a millennial (born in 91), very left wing (love Corbyn), I'm online although I can't get into twitter (much prefer IG and reddit), would happily spend the evening playing zombies on COD and don't know anyone who plays golf seriously.

I haven't read the full thread but I'm sure there's loads of us. Right?

yelyah22 · 22/12/2020 21:02

Ginger I think lots of people are moving away from Twitter now - apparently I'm behind the curve haha!

And Charlotte that made me smile. Lots of lefty young (and less young, in my case) people around these days!

yelyah22 · 22/12/2020 21:03

@whereisthechicken apparently there's a fair few knocking around on here... hiya 👏🏻😊

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 22/12/2020 21:05

Alas. No many golfers, hate Twitter, not a huge fan of gaming.

Sorry OP.

JanewaysBun · 22/12/2020 21:07

I'm a millennial but not extremely online as I don't even know how to pronounce meme 🙈

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 22/12/2020 21:20

Oh and I had to google extremely online.... I'm not that either

AcornAutumn · 22/12/2020 21:29

We’ve got to have Extremely Offline surely

We have FOBI after all.

maddening · 22/12/2020 21:30

Not sure what age a mid millennial is, I must be too old as I was rock and grunge with a touch of goth. I like gaming and hate golf but am not majorly into twitter, just to peruse occasionally and am unsure what constitutes "extremely online". So I am probs a rejection.

maddening · 22/12/2020 21:31

But what do you want with these people and why will no one else do?

hauntedtree · 22/12/2020 21:46

I am absolutely baffled at the hate this thread has attracted but i think you've handled it really well OP!

Also thank you for reminding me about 30 to 50 feral hogs😆

yelyah22 · 22/12/2020 21:49

Hahaha haunted I'm baffled too, I think people assume that if you don't meet my very strict criteria I'm going to tell them off?

30 to 50 feral hogs was my favourite day on the internet, possibly second only to the time we found out David Cameron fucked a pig's head. I read hog tweets all day til I was literally delirious with laughing and I'm laughing again now just thinking about it

yelyah22 · 22/12/2020 21:51

FFS I'm so bad at namechanging. Not as online as I think I am, obviously (side note: mumsnet has the worst UI of any forum I've ever been on during my misspent youth on the internet - please consider nesting comments for the sake of my sanity)

HeddaGarbled · 22/12/2020 21:52

I think it was the last two bullet points plus a later reference to ‘pearl-clutchers’: it feels a bit ageist.

MedusasBadHairDay · 22/12/2020 21:57
@whoamongstus, we're adults now (with ability to totally hide what we actually listen to on Spotify with incognito mode). No gun required!

Millennials (especially 1980s/early 90s) were the luckiest group, they could enjoy going online (even with 56k modems) but not have this digital fingerprint that the new generation have now. We were allowed to be weird on forums and msn chatrooms with little trace! (she says, realising she has a MN name with no link to actual details).
I feel really lucky to have been able to experience the internet like that. I'm a little sad that it's meant that I did lose contact with people when forums closed, etc. I sometimes wonder what happened to the people I spent so much time talking to (eg. Placebo fan forum in the early 2000's was my life but I didn't stay in touch with anyone from them)

Treaclepie19 · 22/12/2020 22:00

Hi 🙋‍♀️
I fit your criteria and think we are the same age.
My dad plays golf though... or did.

Tofu35 · 22/12/2020 22:02

@medusasbadhairday there were definitely people I'd class as close friends from my adolescence that I only ever knew their screen name. Lived in different parts of the UK but we bonded over a love of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.

Placebo fans from the early 2000s were a good bunch, very glittery!

Oh yes, lots of glitter and feather boas, yet also lots of black/goth fashion too. We got some kind, but it was a lot of fun.

yelyah22 · 22/12/2020 22:10

I wasn't aware there was an age element to the concept of pearl clutching Hedda. Or golf or emo music, to be fair.

If you don't want to be considered a pearl clutcher, I'd say not grumbling on a thread evidently not aimed at you about how sad and lame the thread and the posters taking it in good faith are would be a good start!

Grinchbinch · 22/12/2020 22:14

Mid millennial, extremely online, used to wear those horrible wide leg jeans with converse... Was never emo though probably a year or two too old. Liked metal and Godspeed and stuff like that.

Twitter is ridiculous though I stick to trolling on reddit when I can be bothered.
