Kind of laughing. Kind of annoyed. Figured out why the virus is spreading though...

Pointed out that visiting multiple shops for non essential items was poor form in Tier 4. Also said if people actually needed food and couldn't access it I could help with referrals.

I mean are we all going to multiple shops looking for stollen bites, cocoa nibs and gingerbread houses?

Is anyone actually taking Tier 4 seriously?

YANBU - Taking it seriously
YABU - Not taking it seriously, visiting five shops for non essential items is fine.

(Daily Mail Journos - feel free to join the group for your scoop - it's like overheard in waitrose on steroids)

I don't think people are unreasonably panic buying, they are:

 • Buying presents
 • Shopping for Christmas dinner
 • Buying a little extra due to the genuine supply chain issues

Supermarkets are if anything slightly less busy than they usually are at this time of year.

HeadNorth · 22/12/2020 11:56

The OP does come across as chippy. And nobody appreciates the covid police - just keep your neb out & stop obsessing over these women. You obviously resent them hugely, so why do you want to engage? Live your own life.

Chanjer · 22/12/2020 11:58

I don't disagree with you op

I've bought stuff that doesn't quite count as essential, but I managed all of it but going to one shop. There were a couple of things I wanted that weren't there so I substituted

People saying it makes no difference whether it's 1 shop or 5, of course it makes a difference. You've increased your exposure and you've increased the chance that if you're an asymptomatic carrier then you've increased others exposure

Diseases spread through the margins of interaction

Graciebobcat · 22/12/2020 11:58

Even so, do you think that something bad will happen if you don't have stollen and you have to tone it down one year?

I don't think "something bad will happen" if I go and buy stollen and all the usual produce from Aldi either, as long as I'm wearing a mask and washing my hands.

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 12:00

I bloody hate chips!

Thanks for all the laughs, the insults and the virus spreading that I will now never mention again

@quest1on You are in the group - you have seen all those videos - why is what I did worse? Why are those videos still there (I am actually looking at HM now), do you honestly believe I should have been gaslighted like this? I doubt it.

Graciebobcat · 22/12/2020 12:01

Of course, if we had been allowed to walk 5 minutes and spend a couple of hours with the in-laws on Friday then I needn't have gone to Aldi at all...

StopSquirtingBleachOnCaneToads · 22/12/2020 12:01

Sounds like they're buying food. Does it really matter what kind of food? Seems a bit miserable to say they can only buy food so long as it's bland, non festive, or whatever the particular criteria is that you have in mind.

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 12:02

@Chanjer Yep. I cannot see why people don't understand the risk from five shops rather than one for something that is not a necessity.

Looking forwards to months of Tier 4 whilst people continue to act like this.

@Passmeabottlemrjones
Meh - I just can't get worked up about this. This is a shit Christmas, who cares if you go into 3 or 4 shops, masked up with hand gel, to get some bits that might bring a bit of joy? I don't think this is what is going to be spreading the virus.

That’s exactly what is spreading the virus, some people will die as a direct result of people going to 3 or 4 supermarkets looking for the elusive gingerbread house.

@AldiAisleofCrap And that person could be me, or you, or them.

It's bloody suicidal.

Graciebobcat · 22/12/2020 12:03

Also if Aldi put limits on the number of potatoes I can buy at once again as they did in March, as if we are all shopping for a single-person household, it will actually mean multiple trips to the shops so we actually have enough to feed a household of five.

But harsh to ban you though, if you werent rude or anything!

Agree with above. My old tree lights went ''Zap'' so bought more, non essential, but bought candles and a dustpan and brush , drinking glasses and sellotape from same shop.
user1493494961 · 22/12/2020 12:07

I agree with you OP but people either don't get it or don't care.

Graciebobcat · 22/12/2020 12:09

Everyone has their own perception of risk. People who are vulnerable will be unlikely to be visiting five shops. People who rarely ever get a cold, have never had flu, are not in a high risk group, haven't been anywhere other than out walking the dog since October, have no symptoms, have just had a negative Covid test because the local authority/school asked them to test the whole household because of being parents of secondary school age children, wear a mask, wash their hands, socially distance- probably more likely that you'd get run over in the supermarket car park than get Covid from the supermarket.

quest1on · 22/12/2020 12:10

@quest1on You are in the group”

No I’m not Confused

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 12:10

@Graciebobcat I think you should read the stats on indoor transmission and then multiple by 5...

OP posts:
oakleaffy · 22/12/2020 12:11

What is really alarming is obsessed grandparents hacking cross country down into 'Safer' zones from 'Red' zones.

Just spoken to someone who says they are spending Christmas with brother, but his parents are trekking to see grandchildren, which means staying over.

There will be a ton of this going on, I think.

Goodness knows what January will bring.

Caught Brisbane flu for the first time ever on 2008, literally thought I was going to die I felt that bad.

I was blasé about flu before then...But paid for a flu jab every year after that.

Corona isn't flu... but having had experience of a nasty lung infection after, makes me wary of Covid.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/12/2020 12:11

Genuinely thought you’d been found with a Greggs sausage roll wrapper in the car door pocket.

Very disappointed.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/12/2020 12:13
@Graciebobcat I think you should read the stats on indoor transmission and then multiple by 5...
Gracie - the stats about indoor transmission don't point to supermarkets being key places for transmission.

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 12:14

@Fluffycloudland77 sorry, that would actually probably be worse. No Greggs in Hampstead though - how dare you!!

FestertheJester

I did read the thread before I commented. What do you mean?

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 12:15

@Gwenhwyfar think that was for me - yep shops are- hence why they've closed the non-essential ones and only shops in malls with outdoor openings are allowed to be open in T4.

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/12/2020 12:16

@RaspberryCoulis

Fuck me, we're back to March and the frothing over "non-essential items".

What a bunch of judgey arses there are around.

This. The food police are back in full swing - I'm wondering what they were doing all summer! They'd hate me, I've just been to the corner shop for Jammy Dodgers and lemons!
partyatthepalace · 22/12/2020 12:18

It’s not not allowed tho is it?

Thus none of your business. No harm in expressing your opinion of course but they are equally entitled to boot you off the group if they don’t want you spoiling their Christmas shopping fun.
