Kind of laughing. Kind of annoyed. Figured out why the virus is spreading though...

Pointed out that visiting multiple shops for non essential items was poor form in Tier 4. Also said if people actually needed food and couldn't access it I could help with referrals.

I mean are we all going to multiple shops looking for stollen bites, cocoa nibs and gingerbread houses?

Is anyone actually taking Tier 4 seriously?

YANBU - Taking it seriously
YABU - Not taking it seriously, visiting five shops for non essential items is fine.

(Daily Mail Journos - feel free to join the group for your scoop - it's like overheard in waitrose on steroids)

Closing non-essential shops in Tier 4 before some people have done their present shopping in the week before Christmas pretty much guarantees that people will be going from shop to shop, in the ones that are open, to buy "non-essential" items as they still want to get gifts for people in their household.

I keep seeing the comment figured out why virus is spreading when they are clueless, and think it's because someone gone into Waitrose and Tesco's.

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 11:27

@Heartlantern2 I consider going to several shops for a gingerbread house non-essential, don't you?

OP posts:
FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 11:28

@Graciebobcat well let's hope they are not gifting them Covid.

Yanbu of course, honestly tired of the irresponsible attitude that’s making this shit show go on

WhereToMissToTheStars · 22/12/2020 11:34

I agree.
I went yesterday to dentist appointment and the amount of people out, shopping.
I’m in tier 4.
It was so busy there was nowhere to park.
I have seen people carrying pillows, small furniture - all bough from Home Bargains/ B&M stores, Wilco.
Are these really essential?
I would shut these stores.
Nobody cared about lockdown or tier 4 yesterday and I assume today and tomorrow will be the same.

trulydelicious · 22/12/2020 11:35

Do people forget that Christmas is a religious celebration at core?

Nothing bad will happen if one year you have tea and digestives instead of stollen

A lot of people have stopped engaging their brains over much of this pandemic

I don't have anything against Hampstead mums or you @FestertheJester but the problems people manage to create are ridiculous

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 11:36

Woop, every single member of admin has now blocked me.

(If any of you are in the group - can you tell where all the donated presents have gone please?) They should have been delivered this week but no photos etc of drop offs.

LakieLady · 22/12/2020 11:36

@CatholicKidston

People just need to calm down about Christmas. Does it really matter if you don't have a gingerbread house or M&S pre cooked red cabbage. Having said that the sales have now started so there will be lots of non essential shopping going on anyway.
Anybody lazy enough to pay through the nose for pre-cooked cabbage should be ashamed of themselves imo! It takes 10 mins prep, max, and about 20 mins "sweating" on the hob.

Try it with chopped apple and onion, spiced with a little nutmeg, cinnamon and a tiny sprinkle of ground cloves. Bloody gorgeous, and even nicer reheated the following day.

TonMoulin · 22/12/2020 11:38

Tbh @FestertheJester, you are not coming out well.

Your issue isn’t what people are doing or whether it’s ok to . Your issue is that you have an axe to grind with that particular group and you dint like to have been chucked out. And worst of all, not been listen to!!
Basically you are doing exactly what you are complaining others are doing to you.....

If this group is oh so important for you, then contact admin with great politeness, explain your POV and what not. Don’t bother posting about it in MN that has no link said group.
Otherwise, I would advice you to move on (rather than carrying in posting in here). You will feel better for it

HeadNorth · 22/12/2020 11:39

OP, you sound so aggressively over invested in how a group of women and choosing to live their lives. I honestly think being taken off the group was probably the healthiest thing for you. No good can come from obbsessing and judging people's day to day existence, just relax and focus on yourself and your family, you will feel much better for it.

Graciebobcat · 22/12/2020 11:39

Do people forget that Christmas is a religious celebration at core?

Yuletide was a festival about feasting and light before it was a Christian one. For most people it's a cultural celebration, not a religious one. It's certainly not about being miserable with tea and plain biscuits. Especially not this year.

Flapjak · 22/12/2020 11:39

The question you should be asking is, if hand gel and masks are 90 % effective if you have covid, then why isnt it ok to go shopping

TonMoulin · 22/12/2020 11:40

@FestertheJester

Woop, every single member of admin has now blocked me.

(If any of you are in the group - can you tell where all the donated presents have gone please?) They should have been delivered this week but no photos etc of drop offs.

And you are surprised about it?

The fact you seem to be gleeful about it says more about you than them tbh.

Zilla1 · 22/12/2020 11:40

Thank you, OP. I'll check her diary and discuss with her PR.

I hope circumstances improve for you and everyone soon though as that might involve significant behavioural change from the UK public perhaps it might rely on the vaccination programme.

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 11:41

I didn't have an axe to grind, I do now .

I am invested because I have seen the effects of covid - and other members of the group were too (sharing videos of people etc eating outside in Tier 2) but not allowed to point out in tier 4 that people should consider whether their gingerbread house was essential.

Dammit...now i need to go out and buy a red cabbage

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 11:43

@TonMoulin Actually I thought they would have given the decency to explain why I was hold against different measures to other people in the group.

I think as adults we could do that. Turns out the new admin who works in mental health actually cannot do that. Worrying.

OP posts:
TicTacTwo · 22/12/2020 11:43

Yanbu but the group aren't unreasonable not to want the Covid police reinforcing the rules too.

I am in a food group where tier 4 people are clearly cooking for gatherings. While I think people in tier 4 need to suck it up I'm not going to be preaching to the group as I realise that my opinion isn't going to sway someone and even the other olive dgaf unless it's a gathering that will result in £10k fines.

trulydelicious · 22/12/2020 11:44

@Graciebobcat

For most people it's a cultural celebration, not a religious one

Even so, do you think that something bad will happen if you don't have stollen and you have to tone it down one year?

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 11:46

If I had gone in there and said you are all fucking dicks - I would understand - but I didn't. I politely asked people to consider what was essential and whether multiple shops were actually needed.

And given that other members of the group have been sharing videos of people breaking the rules in tier 2 (most weren't), I do not understand how I get banned...

Anyway will never know now, just hope people get some sense , distance, wear masks and stay home as much as possible

YANBU.

Thewithesarehere · 22/12/2020 11:50

There are a lot of fucking stupid morons about and they have some power too unfortunately. Look at the panic-buying. Bloody idiotic and very selfish.

trulydelicious · 22/12/2020 11:51

@Graciebobcat

It's certainly not about being miserable with tea and plain biscuits

There's nothing miserable about digestive biscuits, it's how you choose to perceive the experience

quest1on · 22/12/2020 11:52

OP, I realise this is not a thread about homelessness or poverty, but nevertheless, you have brought these issues into it by frequent allusions to your deliveries by bike and situation.

So, what I am saying is, if you want to talk about your situation or homelessness / poverty, that would be very welcome. But, given the tone of your thread from the outset, it just comes across as conflating serious issues with a fairly petty attitude of to have a snipe and revel in reinforcing a stereotype of certain people (Ohhh Jocasta ha ha ha etc) in a way that just makes you look as if you have a massive chip, that’s all.
