Kind of laughing. Kind of annoyed. Figured out why the virus is spreading though...

Pointed out that visiting multiple shops for non essential items was poor form in Tier 4. Also said if people actually needed food and couldn't access it I could help with referrals.

I mean are we all going to multiple shops looking for stollen bites, cocoa nibs and gingerbread houses?

Is anyone actually taking Tier 4 seriously?

YANBU - Taking it seriously
YABU - Not taking it seriously, visiting five shops for non essential items is fine.

(Daily Mail Journos - feel free to join the group for your scoop - it's like overheard in waitrose on steroids)

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:22

Turns out half of mumsnet think gingerbread houses are essential.

quest1on · 22/12/2020 10:23

To be honest OP, do you have nothing better to get on your high horse about?

It’s none of your business to police what foods people may or may not deem “essential” fgs. It’s obvious what reaction you wanted on here, but who actually cares?

Some places are more “villagey” than others aren’t they, so if you’re going to shop locally it will involve going to multiple shops. Who knew! Where I live in London is a bit like that and why not support the local shops that are managing to stay open? Or should we all get in our cars and drive to our nearest Tesco megastore; stand in endless queues and block the roads - would that make you happy? Anyway, you sound a bit daft, sorry.

Grellbunt · 22/12/2020 10:23

@Zilla1

Now you listen, Jocasta had a remarkably cosmopolitan diet and a healthy interest across all the religious festivals and if I have to visit dozens of independents, not supermarkets like your erroneous post, to feed her growth and ensure she stays in tune with the world's cultures then I won't apologise for that. Every parent who truly cared for their child would do the same - I checked with the other mummies. Her potential will not be constrained by narrow minded people like you. And regarding the shaming videos while we were in Tier 2, if you'd all only listened to me then Jocasta's developmental activities wouldn't have been interrupted so much. I've budgeted for extra tuition to keep her on track for Oxbridge. You deserved your ban, OP, and you know it.
ROFL
FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:25

Ok shops mentioned in one post were ikea, morrisons, sainsburys and waitrose.

Hardly village shops... Not supporting local either are they? Ikea is by the way in the arse hole of the world from Hampstead.

There are some very lovely local shops in Hampstead / Belsize.

And nope I have nothing better to do - shielding, lost my job, etc.

OP posts:
FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:26

If Jacosta needs Oxbridge advice feel free to let me know (gingerbread houses won't cut it I am afraid...)

@FestertheJester

And I doubt the DM is interested in your petty squabbles.

DM love a bit of Hampstead Mums gossip...

I wasn't videoing by the way.

Loving the insults - actually having a really shit time (shielding) and you've all made me smile.

I guess I get to keep shielding for longer because of other peoples essential gingerbread houses.

so if you are shielding, how come you have - as you loudly shouted in hampstead mums - been delivering food to the food banks and being oh so virtuous?
bilbodog · 22/12/2020 10:28

Why dont people make their own gingerbread houses - asking for a friend?

Xenia · 22/12/2020 10:28

The nation is divided on these issues. We will come out of this and it will all be okay again.

Topseyt · 22/12/2020 10:28

@tinselearedcow

I feel like I have been transported back to March when posters were shaking and crying because someone went to the shop for a non-essential Easter egg.

Honestly, things are grim enough without people making up the rules again.

I remember this well. Grin

The Covid Police are now policing Christmas food. They'd police Christmas presents as well if they could, and are no doubt trying to think of ways to do that too.

People have struggled this year. I've been made redundant and had serious health crises for both of my elderly parents, which are not Covid related but are ongoing, terminal at some point and will strike again.

People just now want what little bit of joy they can glean, not to be told by do-gooders what to do, where, how and whether to shop for stuff that makes their lot a bit more bearable. Let them be.

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:28

Part of my daily exercise - go on my bike, pick up from foodbanks and deliver to shielding people who cannot get out. No contact delivery - very safe.

(I also picked up things for the refuge whilst I was at essential medical appointments last week and two weeks prior to that)

OP posts:
Haffiana · 22/12/2020 10:29

Meh. The 'essential' police all over again.

WHY the fuck don't people police themselves instead of trying to control others? All forms of control are based in fear.

Deal with your own fear. It is your problem. It is not someone else's job to manage YOUR fear for you.

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:30

@TinyTear That was for you - feel free to see all the posts in HM - I guess you can obviously.

Where is the Morrison’s in the Hampstead area OP?

And for all the people frothing about Hampstead Mums

This is the sort of post in the group.
There is a great community spirit, and lots of people in the local state schools.

To be honest, the most of the traffic and yummy mummies having coffee are the ones coming from further away dropping their kids to the private schools and clogging up our roads

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:31

@quest1on Camden (the old train yard) - it's no where near Hampstead (neither is Ikea)

OP posts:
user1466068383 · 22/12/2020 10:32

YABU. Honestly seems like you've gone out of your way to rile up people. Do you really think calling them out on visiting more than one supermarket would affect their behaviour or be a good use of your time?
If they're bugging you maybe you should have left the group before they kicked you out.

Actually there is one in Chalk Farm...
UrghThisIsHard · 22/12/2020 10:32

Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit

I went in eight shops to find those.

TinyTear · 22/12/2020 10:32

Easy walk from Hampstead - no public transport involved

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:33

Folks, we have a Hampstead Mum on the Thread

(I actually do agree there are some lovely people in the group, hence the refuge donations etc)

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:36

I don't mind being kicked out.

I just think it's quite funny that in tier 2 videos of people eating crepes outside are acceptable yet in tier 4 pointing out that people visiting multiple shops for non essential items isn't wise is not allowed.

OP posts:
zafferana · 22/12/2020 10:36

YABU.

People are just trying to make the best of the shit situation we're in and if Christmas for them means Stollen Bites and Gingerbread whatevers, then let them hunt them out. Life is so bloody joyless right now and I massively resent all the shops that are closed, forcing us all into close proximity with others in the small number that are open. Fuck this virus and fuck Tier 4!
