Kind of laughing. Kind of annoyed. Figured out why the virus is spreading though...

Pointed out that visiting multiple shops for non essential items was poor form in Tier 4. Also said if people actually needed food and couldn't access it I could help with referrals.

I mean are we all going to multiple shops looking for stollen bites, cocoa nibs and gingerbread houses?

Is anyone actually taking Tier 4 seriously?

YANBU - Taking it seriously
YABU - Not taking it seriously, visiting five shops for non essential items is fine.

(Daily Mail Journos - feel free to join the group for your scoop - it's like overheard in waitrose on steroids)

@ShatnersWig

My girlfriend has intolerance for lactose and gluten. Are you suggesting if Sainsbury's doesn't have the necessary free from items, she should starve rather than go to another shop for them?
My sister has the same intolerances. You don't starve not buying "free from" products. Meat, veg, fruit and spuds are all fine to eat and freely available.
Fbtw · 22/12/2020 10:10

How are you supporting local shops if you’re not going round the small shops to get the stuff you want?

1992serpent · 22/12/2020 10:11

Leave people alone ffs. Get a better hobby

Zilla1 · 22/12/2020 10:11

Now you listen, Jocasta had a remarkably cosmopolitan diet and a healthy interest across all the religious festivals and if I have to visit dozens of independents, not supermarkets like your erroneous post, to feed her growth and ensure she stays in tune with the world's cultures then I won't apologise for that. Every parent who truly cared for their child would do the same - I checked with the other mummies. Her potential will not be constrained by narrow minded people like you. And regarding the shaming videos while we were in Tier 2, if you'd all only listened to me then Jocasta's developmental activities wouldn't have been interrupted so much. I've budgeted for extra tuition to keep her on track for Oxbridge. You deserved your ban, OP, and you know it.

HitthatroadJack · 22/12/2020 10:12

I am guessing that the ones who don't care are the ones who THINK their job is unaffected, and who are not suffering any of the consequences.

Even them are in for a bit of a shock when services go down, and taxes go through the roof, to name only a few.

It's sheer stupidity to think you are immune to the effect of the pandemic and the various restrictions. But when you are faced with the consequences, don't come moaning, you were part of the problem
🤷

CeibaTree · 22/12/2020 10:12

You sound like a patronising bore. Let people make their own decisions about what is important to them to get through the end of a horrible year, and just concentrate on you and yours.

Benjispruce2 · 22/12/2020 10:13

Yanbu

Viviennemary · 22/12/2020 10:13

People can go to as many shops they like. And take as long as they like choosing a can of baked beans. Unless told otherwise.

bettytaghetti · 22/12/2020 10:13

YABVU. How on earth are they supposed to keep up their insta pages without all these 'essential' props? 😂

tinselearedcow · 22/12/2020 10:13

I feel like I have been transported back to March when posters were shaking and crying because someone went to the shop for a non-essential Easter egg.

Honestly, things are grim enough without people making up the rules again.

Harmarsuperstar · 22/12/2020 10:13

I don't know if there's a Hampstead Aldi (probably not 🤣) but whoever it was could have got all 3 items in the op from there 🤔

HitthatroadJack · 22/12/2020 10:14

@Fbtw

what's so hard to understand?

No one is telling you to stop shopping Hmm
Just get your shopping in one go - even if it means going to different shops when you NEED, don't go with your mum, your boyfriend, your bestfriend and only take your kids if you HAVE to. Just plan a bit and don't pop to the shop because you fancy a mars bar.

CambsAlways · 22/12/2020 10:14

I’m also in tier 4 if I need something I will go round till I find it,

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 22/12/2020 10:15

@FestertheJester

Agreed - if you only go to one or the other.

Not five freaking shops in a day because you cannot find a non-essential item?

Personally I wouldn’t, but i was worried something like this would happen so started christmas food shopping earlier and ive curtailed my Christmas pootling

Im not sure if i would have said anything on the group (and WTF with the videoing people!!!!)

I don’t think you should have been banned...thats just ridiculous

HitthatroadJack · 22/12/2020 10:15

@Viviennemary

that summarise beautifully the lack of common sense and resilience of this country.

People ARE absolute children who need strict rules to understand, they can't figure it out by themselves.

This country is embarrassing. Good luck with the next few years, the bill is going to be a heavy one.

DailyCandy · 22/12/2020 10:16

You’re so painful. And I doubt the DM is interested in your petty squabbles. It’s boring.

I love zilla

I try not to say wanky stuff like that...

But all is good with my world now

FestertheJester · 22/12/2020 10:19

And I doubt the DM is interested in your petty squabbles.

DM love a bit of Hampstead Mums gossip...

I wasn't videoing by the way.

Loving the insults - actually having a really shit time (shielding) and you've all made me smile.

I guess I get to keep shielding for longer because of other peoples essential gingerbread houses.

OP posts:
Beautiful3 · 22/12/2020 10:19

I cannot get worked up about this at all. Christmas is shit already. Someone pops into a couple of shops to find a gingerbread house and a bag of brussel sprouts. Nope it doesnt give me the rage, like it does you, sorry!

motherxmas · 22/12/2020 10:19

And to everyone who says I will go around as many shops as I need to...............literally, this is why the cases will not go down!!!!

Right now in Tier 4 this is our best bet to get the cases down etc.....schools, unis etc are shut, we are not meant to be mixing etc. This isnt about policing people or spoiling Christmas - frankly right now it's about making sure that things like nannies/schools/nurseries re-open after the holidays. Because those same mums will then complain when their little children are at home etc. SO yes, it is important to ensure that we all do our bit - because a slightly less cosy Christmas right now is nothing compared to WFH/looking after kids come the new year

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/12/2020 10:19

I'm on your side OP.

If you have to have sossidges for Christmas dinner - so what? You can have your big dinner celebration after the new year.

We'll be missing some bits - I'm fine with that.

MessAllOver · 22/12/2020 10:20

They are unreasonable solely because all decent people abhor shop-bought stollen and gingerbread. The only way to go is homemade... Then one can post beautiful pictures of heartwarming family fun and lovingly crafted festive treats on Instagram and Facebook a la "Ella is only three but she whips up a mean stollen. Must be that advanced baking course we did online as a family in the first lockdown. #FamilyForever".

edwinbear · 22/12/2020 10:20

YABVU. If the shops are open, you are permitted to go into them and spend money. Retail needs all the support it can get right now.

Fbtw · 22/12/2020 10:20

If the shops are open and I need something for my Christmas celebrations then I’m going to get it.

I do one shop a week, less if I can and I don’t pootle around half a dozen places.

We are supposed to support local shops. I can’t get everything in one place of I do that so I go to LIDL and Tesco. Because I can. And it’s less exposure.

But yet Facebook etc is full of shop local. How do you do that if you aren’t prepared to go to half a dozen shops and trail the town to do it?
