To be annoyed with rule breakers not taking to me

I'm in Glasgow. On Friday my friend (also in Glasgow) got the train to London and brought her 85 year old mother back with her for a 4 week visit. She missed her as have seen her for 3 months so in her eyes it's totally justifiable,. I miss my parents as do millions of others but for the good of the bigger picture and not being selfish bastards we don't all go and visit them and being them across the UK especially when we know not to travel. Shouldn't have left Glasgow area at all and only just did it before it became illegal. Group of friends now not talking to me as they think I'm the selfish one for not understanding she was missing her mum. I'm missing my mum but not seen her for 9 months so far. I'm so upset and just wondering if I'm being wrong. Know people need to do what works for them but surely this is too far?

It didn't taken them long once they asked where she was from. Do you realise the staff talk to patients?

I’m sure they do. But do you have any idea how busy a COVID ward is? This isn’t an outpatients clinic where a nurse might have a talk with a nervous patient to make them feel at ease - it’s a non-stop, emergency situation.

In any case, your story seems to have shifted from medical staff pinpointing the source of the infection to that specific train journey, to a rather vague ‘Oh, maybe they just worked it out when the mother said where she was from’. Which is it?

Just to add here - you said both of them are from high risk areas and break the rules anyway (neither were isolating when arrived, remember).

It sounds like they both would have got it anyway regardless of whether they were together or not. At least now, if the worst should happen, your ‘friend’ has been able to spend some time with her DM.

(Still surprised your friend who stopped talking to you is giving you intimate updates of the convos between her DM and nurse though).

Well I wasn't there but I would imagine if she said she lives in London they might have asked why she was in glasgow.

Trialofstyle, we are speaking, have been for days and all is fine between us. My friend hadn't isolated before travelling, her mum had been in a bubble with her friend down there.

Jesus wept!! If I was going to make up a mumsnet post sure I could think of something a bit more exciting than covid and an oap on a train. Hope all you non believers keep safe, thank goodness your stupidity isn't as contagious as covid.

Again, you seem to have made a massive leap to suggest anyone who is sceptical about your particular story doesn’t believe COVID is an issue. That’s some pretty unique logic. I would not be throwing terms like ‘stupidity’ around in your shoes.

I believe in Covid....
