so they could have used furlough money to double NHS spending for the year already! Imagine what that could do!

Whilst I feel the NHS is under funded and needs to be better funded and higher priority, it's a long term solution. No amount of money will magic up qualified staff or extra buildings in time frame required to sufficiently manage covid.

We need a proper lockdown. Including schools. The government have known for well over a month that schools are the main sources of infection (ONS data showed this in November) yet they are forcing small businesses to close instead because of blind rhetoric about ‘prioritising’ education. If they really, genuinely did this, they would close schools for 3 weeks or so, allow cases to fall, ensure proper Ppe for all staff, ensure al students wore masks and do something about the woefully inadequate track and trace system. Online learning, rota system if necessary. Until they actually have the balls to do this, we will be in these lockdown half measures for months, crippling the economy, losing jobs and ensuring that these children have absolutely no prospects in the future. I wish they would stop pretending there was any other option, get it done, admit January will be shit for al so we stand a chance of getting on with our lives afterwards. Assuming they can use this time to get track and trace sorted.

ohwhynot - i've got no problem with lockdowns if the rates in the area are high. But why lock people up if they are low, just because they are high somewhere else. Its just not logical to compromise people's lives and businesses if there are low covid cases in an area
