so...
I had received a text from my Doctors on Friday which I missed.
I'd spend the weekend thinking that either I was going to have to self-isolate or that my biopsy results were not clear after all...

Turns out they want me to pop in for my HRT review and a blood pressure check. The HRT is fabulous. The blood pressure is normal.

The only problem is that the receptionist and I didn't really want to get off the phone as we were enjoying our lovely normal chat. I told her to keep fighting the good fight.

@Doidontimmm

The results I was waiting on came back clear, not cancer 😀
Lovely, but no small thing!

This is the first time I'll be 'doing' Christmas, DS is 3 so we decided even before Covid to do our own little celebration now that he knows what's going on and we can make it all magical. Everything is wrapped, DS has a beautiful new stocking and the cutest Thomas pyjamas for Christmas Eve and I'm just making chestnut soup for the next couple of days. Going to make a (sort of) Gateaux Mont Blanc just to see how it goes! We have lists and lists of timings and a cupboard full of beautiful food and drink that we've been stocking up over the last couple of months to save money. I feel festive for the first time in years. DS is so excited and talking about Father Christmas. We're so gutted about not being able to see family but we're going to have pretend Christmases with both sides when we can and I have everything crossed that it's not too long until we can.

Joining!
My DCs were hugely disappointed we couldn’t visit my parents for Christmas . But now we have lots of lovely food in, we have some nice Christmas plans like going to see all the fab house lights and decorations tonight and the kids are really excited counting the days down in their advent calendar.

It’s a bit like the quote from the Grinch

“He hadn’t stopped Christmas from coming.
IT CAME!
Somehow or other it came just the same”

I went to John Lewis' with husband. We headed straight for the perfume area. Spent 30 mins squirting different perfume at each other then bought two bottles, one for him, one for me which we wrapped and put under the tree. We haven't bought each other perfume before. It was a brief period of light relief from a hard year.

I learned to play Oh Come All Ye Faithful on my piano yesterday from a book of Christmas carols that I bought. It really cheered me up.
We live abroad and no family this year.

badpuma · 22/12/2020 08:11

Hello, can I add a thing from yesterday?

I'm in a choir which hasn't been able to meet since February as our normal rehearsal venue is a school which has closed to outside uses. A group of 4 of us got together to sing carols to some of the people in the choir who have been shielding.

We had a lovely evening walking our town. We'd arranged to visit people and stood in their gardens really spaced out and sang some carols for them.

Lots of people stopped to listen and say how much they enjoyed it. One of our members is now in very late stages of dementia but could still remember all the words to the carols!

It felt so uplifting to do something we enjoyed which brought so much pleasure to people.

I have not seen my mum for a year, as she lives on the continent

Yesterday she said a small boy from down the street appeared at her door with a home made decoration, he then gave a serious little speech about old lonely people at Christmas. She said it was quite surreal but terribly sweet and it made her day.

She also says people stop and chat for a moment as she walks around the area with her walking frame (she is recovering from a hip op)

It’s the little chats that keep her going, I feel I am relying on all those unknown people to be there for her when I can’t, even if just through teeny tiny acts of kindness (a chat, a smile)

Small acts of kindness to strangers takes so little but means so much

A store assistant helped to pack my shopping in Aldi as I was struggling with an extra wriggly 6mo DD

My Paxton and Whitfield Christmas cheese is being delivered Grin. It was supposed to be going to the in laws (T1) where we were going, but as we are now T4, that’s not happening.

I didn’t think they would be able to change the delivery address at such short notice, on a Sunday, but they did! So whilst I may not have any other food in the house, we have enough cheese for breakfast, lunch and dinner to last until New Year! What more do you need?!

I’ve needed this today. I’m a week overdue & the world and his wife seem to have already had their babies!

I’ve had a lovely chat this morning with one of my best friends and my sister.

I slept for about 5 hours without broken sleep (really suffered from pregnancy insomnia).

My cat is fast asleep next to me having lovely cuddles.

baubled · 22/12/2020 08:42

@MaverickDanger I was in your position 4 years ago! He came on the 23rd so hopefully you're not waiting too much longer xx

tigerbear · 22/12/2020 08:43

After thinking it would be closed in Tier 4, I’m off for a swim at the local Lido. It’s going to be freezing, but exhilarating! Smile

Thanks But surely you mean the world and her husband...Wink

My Christmas food shop is arriving today and I’m rather lamely excited about it. We’re going to watch the Grinch (Jim Carey version) this evening with a hot chocolate.

MaverickDanger · 22/12/2020 08:56

@baubled fingers crossed! Happy birthday to your DS for tomorrow!

@ErrolTheDragon very true Wink

Just picked my food order up from Marks. Ordered a Christmas Colin Caterpillar cake and it’s lovely! Just hidden it from the kids, can’t wait to see their faces (they are 18 & 15) 🤣

Demitri · 22/12/2020 09:34

All 3 of my dc have invented a new game, together, and have been playing it non stop for the last 2 days. They haven’t once fought, whinged, moaned or come down to tell me they’re starving. Honestly, I feel like I’m in an alternate universe! We’re on day 4 of isolation and I was absolutely dreading it, but they’ve been awesome.

Also, my Asda shop came and there was only one substitution.

It’s been a shit year for us as I’ve lost my aunt, uncle, cousin and my beloved dog had to be put to sleep. It’s the little things that make a big difference.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone x

Oh I know that feeling. Dd was 8 days late and I was huge, she was almost 10 lbs! I remember trying to eat tonnes of pineapple and chilli. Don’t think it made any difference though 😂

Keep us posted and good luck xx

One of my tutees has just sent me a lovely bunch of flowers - made my day.

peaceanddove · 22/12/2020 13:52

I couldn't resist the beautiful Panettone cakes, all wrapped up in red ribbon in our village shop. Have just bought one, and we'll enjoy it on Christmas Eve while drinking coffee and watching The Polar Express (family tradition).

Youngest DD had an orthodental appointment this morning and the next appointment will be the braces coming off. We were expecting them on till august at least.

ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 22/12/2020 15:38

My Tesco order came so the house is full of delicious things.

The parcel I sent yesterday has arrived at my sister's house. She was meant to be coming to us but can't and I was worried she would have nothing to open on Christmas Day as all her gifts were here.

DH has just fixed the tumble drier - no need for wet washing draped around the house.

MonkeyPuddle · 22/12/2020 15:52

Took DS3 and DD7w to the park. DD slept the whole time so DS and had some properly good fun chasing each other with the pram, we shared a hot chocolate and a bun. He’s found the transition to Big Brother a bit tricky and this 1-2-1 time is really important.

He also shouted ‘bye park, happy Christmas!’ as we left, which was super cute.

TorchesTorches · 22/12/2020 15:59

My 8 year old DS has been ill the last couple of days and I have been looking after him. He was getting slightly better this morning, so asked him if he wanted me to stay or if I could go and do some jobs around the house. He put his hand on my arm as a gesture to stay with him. It really touched me and was quite lovely.
