Hello!

Back story

When I met my now husband in 2013 I had a dark plum red hair colour ( will try to attach a pic ) around 2017 I dropped it to black then brown and now with the new year coming in feeling inspired to lose some weight and bring back that colour ..

I told him this morning over breakfast and he responded with ‘ you have had your time ‘ ... I’m 37.

Is there some kind of unsaid fashion rule regarding hair colours and age //.

Is that how he sees me ?! As someone who has had their time !!! I’m
Younger than him !

‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF

@TinkerPony I got it from Primark, but a couple of years ago now so I don't think they have them any more unfortunately. There was a distinct dearth of any cute t-shirts during my most recent foray.

TheChristmasPrincess · 20/12/2020 19:40

One of my work colleagues is in her 40/50s and has vivid lilac and bright blue hair (layered). She looks amazing and everyone compliments her on it.

Ignore him, he’s a prat!

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 20/12/2020 19:41

I'm 35, I dyed my hair this colour the other day (not for the first time). I've not had my natural hair colour since i was a teen. And I don't think I'll stopping any time soon.

Iflyaway · 20/12/2020 19:43

Fab photo OP!

If my husband treated me like that - I'm 65! - I'd tell him he's had his time too. I long ago had it with men trying to control me.

EstuaryBird · 20/12/2020 19:43

I’m (quite a young looking) 65 and have exactly that hair colour and I love it....stuff what anyone else thinks 😊

If it's good enough for Professor Alice Roberts it's good enough for you.

@TinkerPony have a look at Truffle Shuffle online. They have some brilliant T shirts.

@Glitterzzz

Thanks for your replies so far ! I did ask hey what do you mean by that !! Had my time??? He back tracked saying ohhh I just mean you suit brown and that was then and this is now ?

I’ve attached a pic from 2015 as I know I suit it. It’s so funny how men think they can age bracket women but don’t do it to themself

Glitterzzz, you look fantastic! He is worried about the male attention you will be getting.
knittingaddict · 20/12/2020 19:49

Not the exact colour, just the concept of reintroducing a colour that you had in your younger days.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/12/2020 19:50

Age appropriate hair colours come under the same heading as accountants can't have piercings, untucked shirts are a sign of anarchy looming and curls are unprofessional.

DM had lovely natural deep red /orange hair until she died.

Arthersleep · 20/12/2020 19:53

Of course there are rules re hair colour as you get older. The older you get, the less you should care about what others think and let your hair get brighter and brighter. You need to tell him that!

cyclingmad · 20/12/2020 19:56

Don't bother listening to him. I'm nearing 50 and go to music festivals and most people think im too old but whatever never too old to do the things you love.

I remember that shit. My mother came home one day after getting her friend to look after me (unheard of) after school when I was five.

She'd had her waist length, almost jet black, thick hair all chopped off and replaced with a cauliflower perm and changed from her red flares and white ribbed polo neck into a mint green embroidered top and nylon skirt.

I hated it then and I continued to hate it from that day on. It would have been 4-6 months after her 40th birthday.

Musicalmistress · 20/12/2020 19:59

My friend in her 50s has her hair that colour & in a funky short cut, she looks amazing! Your hair, your choice!

HemlockStarglimmer · 20/12/2020 20:00

My current hair colour. I'm 59. My time for mad hair colours is over when and if I have no hair.

CaptainSandy · 20/12/2020 20:00

2020nymph thank you Smile

Life can be hard, why not have fun with stuff where you can. I doubt many people aspire to have "she had sensible hair" on their gravestones.

HemlockStarglimmer · 20/12/2020 20:02

Hmm can't see the pic I posted. My hair is dark purple, magenta and blue.

diddl · 20/12/2020 20:05

What he said doesn't really make sense imo.

Especially his "explanation"!

I think it can be an aging colour.

But if you like it-who else matters?

Viviennemary · 20/12/2020 20:16

I'm quite conventional and don't usually like wayout. But that looks very nice.

radness75 · 20/12/2020 20:20

Im 45 with pink hair just now, it will be purple next month! I havent been my natural colour since i started to go gray at 15!

nancybotwinbloom · 20/12/2020 20:23

@Reachersloveinterest

Reckon a nearly 40 year old (pale brows and lashes and freckles) natural redhead could get away with Ariel bright red? Always wanted it and never had the guts.
There are some apps you can try to change your hairstyle and colour. Have a go snd see
GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 20/12/2020 20:23

HA!

Age is nothing when it comes to hair colour.

Go as mad as you like!!!

FestiveFruitloop · 20/12/2020 20:27

@ivfbeenbusy

It depends really....if it goes with your overall "style" then fine...otherwise it might look a bit trying too hard/trying to relive your youth which can just come across as a bit sad sorry
sigh

Why do some people persist in assuming that if someone older wants a particular look they must be trying to look younger or recapture their youth? Couldn't it just be that they like that look?

Also, trying 'too hard' for what? I'm 53 and have my hair coloured regularly, several colours including a 'fun' red. Presumably I'm trying too hard and should be going grey gracefully at my age? Meh.

OP, your DH made a dickish comments if you don't mind my saying so. Have your hair exactly the way you want it. Of course you haven't 'had your time' at 37, or at any age really.

TricolourCat · 20/12/2020 20:28

Age is just a number, dress for yourself not your husband. He probably doesn't want you to attract the attention of other men! go for it and you have amazing hair!

Wafflingonagain · 20/12/2020 20:29

I’m 43 I have an undercut all around my head and the top is dyed pink
