‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF

Hello!

Back story

When I met my now husband in 2013 I had a dark plum red hair colour ( will try to attach a pic ) around 2017 I dropped it to black then brown and now with the new year coming in feeling inspired to lose some weight and bring back that colour ..

I told him this morning over breakfast and he responded with ‘ you have had your time ‘ ... I’m 37.

Is there some kind of unsaid fashion rule regarding hair colours and age //.

Is that how he sees me ?! As someone who has had their time !!! I’m
Younger than him !

I'm 45 and have turquoise hair. Do what you like

Pumpkintopf · 20/12/2020 19:03

What does he mean by that?!

JamesCracknelsBugle · 20/12/2020 19:05

Never let a partner determine your image. If you want to change your hair colour, do it.

Holothane · 20/12/2020 19:05

Who the hell does he think he is I’m not dying hair now but I’ve been tardis blue, bright pink, Christmas red and I’m 54. If I had the energy, I’d still be doing it but due to night sweats I have cropped hair now.

Skysblue · 20/12/2020 19:05

Well I’m in my forties and my husband keeps suggesting I dye my hair purple 🤷‍♀️ I think he’s fed up of looking at grey-brown.

Stupid comment from your DH.

Ideasplease322 · 20/12/2020 19:06

😂 your husband is an idiot.

I remember a colleague proudly announcing he had told his wife she was too old to wear a hoody. She was thirty.

MaelyssQ · 20/12/2020 19:10

I am a lot older than you with shoulder length curly (dyed) dark red hair. I am a fan of the Dylan Thomas poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.

You are 37. Your husband is a twat.

Teddybear27 · 20/12/2020 19:12

I would tell him to stuff it. Cheeky g*t!.....

Helpneededbyanoutsider · 20/12/2020 19:20

Was he kidding/ through away comment?

Is he a woman’s stylist/ hair dresser? How the hell would he know 😂😂😂

1forAll74 · 20/12/2020 19:22

He is taking rubbish, and to be ignored. is he thinning on top.all bald even, and maybe jealous of lovely hair.

Boatonthehorizon · 20/12/2020 19:22

I'm 46 with lovely blonde locks. Like tess daly, who's 51!

CherryBlossomPink · 20/12/2020 19:24

I’m 51 and just gone back to a vibrant red - love it! Age is just a number - have the colour which makes you feel good 😊

Artandlove · 20/12/2020 19:25

Totally agree with what @VettiyaIruken said!

hellejuice91 · 20/12/2020 19:28

At the start of this year I was talking to my husband about dying my hair auburn he said to me 'why not just grow old gracefully?' I was 28 at the time

RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 20/12/2020 19:30

I think your teens and your 20's is when to play about with colourful hair. Your day has come lol. Go blonde.

pringlebells · 20/12/2020 19:31

That hair is gorgeous and with a comment like that I'd tell him he, has had enough of your time. Cheeky sod!

The hair will look lovey on you

Tal45 · 20/12/2020 19:32

Maybe he doesn't want you to look too young - because he can't keep up x

NoddyWithAVoddy · 20/12/2020 19:33

I'm pushing 60 and my hair has been every colour under the sun.
Currently sporting bright purple with neon pink streaks. My husband loves it. He's never made a negative comment on any of my hair colours.
I'd ignore your husband and go for whatever colour you want op.

DrCoconut · 20/12/2020 19:33

I'm 43 and considering getting the old me back with dyed purple or red hair and "alternative" clothes. It's about time. I've wasted half my life on crappy relationships and people pleasing. But I'm being urged to be cautious as "it won't create the right impression", "people will think you're having a mid life crisis" etc. So many people seem to think I should be looking at a brown mum bob and "classic" clothes with elastic waists from M+S "at my age".

2020nymph · 20/12/2020 19:34

@JaneExotic

I saw a gorgeous mini dress in a shop window and pointed it out to my husband. He told me I’d look ridiculous as I was too old to show my legs now. I was 22. Sadly, I listened to him.

What a dick! My husband said similar about miniskirts when I turned 30... I wore a lot of mini dresses, opaque tights and ankle boots after that!

@Glitterzzz I love that colour, I would def compliment your hair if I saw you out!

@Reachersloveinterest channel your inner Ariel!

Silvercatowner · 20/12/2020 19:35

Early 60s here - I've bright (very bright) pink hair. My husband loves it and the youngsters I work with think it's awesome.

Cheeky bugger your OH.

LilyLongJohn · 20/12/2020 19:35

He's taking shit, have it whatever colour you want

Glitterzzz · 20/12/2020 19:38

Thanks for your replies so far ! I did ask hey what do you mean by that !! Had my time??? He back tracked saying ohhh I just mean you suit brown and that was then and this is now ?

I’ve attached a pic from 2015 as I know I suit it. It’s so funny how men think they can age bracket women but don’t do it to themself

‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF
