‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF

Hello!

Back story

When I met my now husband in 2013 I had a dark plum red hair colour ( will try to attach a pic ) around 2017 I dropped it to black then brown and now with the new year coming in feeling inspired to lose some weight and bring back that colour ..

I told him this morning over breakfast and he responded with ‘ you have had your time ‘ ... I’m 37.

Is there some kind of unsaid fashion rule regarding hair colours and age //.

Is that how he sees me ?! As someone who has had their time !!! I’m
Younger than him !

I wouldn't inform him next time. I'd also book in for a tattoo Grin

Rownenen1 · 22/12/2020 07:57

I think he had a moment of insecurity, hearing you talk of loosing wieght and doing your hair lovely. He spoke without really thinking.
Do what makes you feel good. Life too short.

Localocal · 22/12/2020 09:55

I'm 53 and keep my hair varying shades of red - sometimes purply, sometimes pinky, sometimes pillar box, sometimes orangey ("taco grease orange" as my brother once put it. I think your pic looks lovely and you should go for it. There are no limits. I know a Baroness in her 80's who stands up in the House of Lords with a bright blue shock of hair at the front, defending the rights of refugees. She's my hero. Absolutely no age limit on hair colour. Your DH doesn't know what he's talking about.

Perhaps he feels he doesn't want to try to make the effort any more and doesn't want his hot young wife showing him up? Not your problem, either way. You do you, babe.

somethingischasingme · 22/12/2020 09:58

I went peachy pink when I turned 45 and deeper purple shortly after. Live it!

somethingischasingme · 22/12/2020 10:00

I meant 'love it' but 'live it' works too! Grin

I love this message. It's really a good universal attitude to apply against all the negatives we are currently going through! 🌹

@Reachersloveinterest natural redhead here or at least I was until a few years ago, very pale and very freckly. Absolutely loved my 9 months of Ariel red this year! Did have to dye brows more often and wear more mascara but loved it! But alas my roots are so light now it was dying it all over every 3 weeks that had me return to a natural colour. Just do what makes you happy!

Nowaynothappening · 22/12/2020 11:46

I mean, to each their own but I don’t think people over the age of maybe 25 should have crazy hair colours. One of the teacher’s in my DC’s school dyed her hair purple like that, she’s in her 40s and it just looked wrong.

CharlieBIB · 22/12/2020 12:28

I used to due my hair red a lot and as I got older I found it looked harsher against my skin even though it suited me perfectly when I was younger. Definitely never too old for colour though, I'm 50 and this is me after my latest visit to the hairdresser

I’d personally never do the wacky colours. However, I’d rather be someone who, according to some internet randome “looks wrong” than someone who’s general attitude towards other human beings is “wrong”. I’d hate to be so judgemental about other people’s appearances. Why would having plum coloured hair have any bearing on a school teacher’s abilities? I’ve found kids respond better to the teachers who let their personality shine through in the way they dress and present themselves.
Tabby90 · 22/12/2020 13:39

Is he the jealous type? I wonder if he associates that colour with when you met him and he was attracted to you so he doesn’t want you to return to it in case others fancy you! Just a thought!

Seriously? You are joking, right? Is there anything else that I should have given up at 25?

Still living in a world full of age reservations Hmm

FromDespairToHere · 22/12/2020 15:17

I'm 45. My hair is usually some shade of pink, purple or blue. The only time I'll stop is when I start looking like Phyllis from Corrie.

Well this has made me determined to colour my hair all the more just to annoy people like you! :)

I once got told (working in a back office with no customer contact) that my hair colour wasn't in keeping with the corporate image. I came in the following day with an even brighter shade.

Ddot · 22/12/2020 16:15

I think too dark can be ageing but I'm talking about sixty and up. Crazy colour away sweetie

PeachyPeachTrees · 22/12/2020 17:03

I'm mid 40s and have dark purple hair. Rock that look!

bemusedmoose · 22/12/2020 17:21

I'm 39 and currently have black and pink hair. I have literally been every colour of the rainbow, even actually rainbow the last few years.

Dont what you want for you. And stuff his opinion - he's clearly stuck in a middle age rut.

Sushirolls · 22/12/2020 20:02

I'm 48, my hair has been all colours of the rainbow, and I'm still dying it "whacky" colours.

Woeismypants · 22/12/2020 22:50

Dark plum isnt even a wild look.
Does he just not like it red? You know if he was being spiteful or not.

Um.... no. I'm 52 and I have my hair dyed red, and it's bright red. My DH loves it.

I bet id deem your fashion choices wrong and frumpy

Long live WILD COLOUR!

Ultimateblends · 23/12/2020 04:05

I had my hair dyed from blonde at the bottom, dark on top to purple at the bottom and brown on top, around halloween time, dp said he hated it. Im in my mid 30s, absolutely no fucks given.

When married in my 20s my dh said he would divorce me for pink hair... guess what I did Grin

Happily divorced. You're never too old. You do you!
