Hello!

Back story

When I met my now husband in 2013 I had a dark plum red hair colour ( will try to attach a pic ) around 2017 I dropped it to black then brown and now with the new year coming in feeling inspired to lose some weight and bring back that colour ..

I told him this morning over breakfast and he responded with ‘ you have had your time ‘ ... I’m 37.

Is there some kind of unsaid fashion rule regarding hair colours and age //.

Is that how he sees me ?! As someone who has had their time !!! I’m
Younger than him !

Oh I do wish my stbxh had said that to me. My reply would have been hmm well you've had your day byeee. Instead I just dished up his tea and added a side plate of "by the way I've filed for divorce"!

Somethingselfdeprecating · 21/12/2020 21:51

Lilac death hawk here, I’m 41...Grin
Op if you want to colour your hair, colour your hair, do not enable your patronising bigot of a husband!Flowers

Lovaduck74 · 21/12/2020 21:53

How do you feel with that colour hair?....that's the only thing that matters. If you feel great with it, then go for it!

tonzer65 · 21/12/2020 22:00

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

Here's one of my artistic creations. I'm 53. Meh. I love it Smile
Cracker hair style!!!!
keffie12 · 21/12/2020 22:01

LOL tell him to get out of his old farile jumper and put his slippers away! God he has a grumbling old man attitude.

I am way older than you. I'm a Granna in my 50s. OK I am quirky with dress style etc.

However I am now back using reds and purple in my hair. Hsve a hair colour change every year.

Everyone loves it. If its good enough for me it certainly is for you

Its none of his business: there is working together as a couple and still being unique and confident in who you are. Your not an extension of him

Go for it gal

CorianderQueen · 21/12/2020 22:04

@JaneExotic

I saw a gorgeous mini dress in a shop window and pointed it out to my husband. He told me I’d look ridiculous as I was too old to show my legs now. I was 22. Sadly, I listened to him.
Frankly that's creepy, does he only want teenage girls in mini skirts?? Shock
Barney60 · 21/12/2020 23:13

i think it looks beautiful. LOVE that colour. go to be honest theres a lady lives near me shes about 68, her hairs a different colour every few months and it looks terrible, its not actually put on very well, plus i do think she needs to tone it down slightly, but thats just my opinion, if shes happy with it whats it got to do with me or any one else. Same for you, including your partner!

jgjgjgjgjg · 21/12/2020 23:53

He's right. Very bright obviously dyed hair on a woman approaching 40 screams 'I have no idea of what actually suits me now so I'll cling on to a style that suited me when I was experimenting in my 20s'

Bargebill19 · 22/12/2020 00:02

I’ve always thought brightly coloured hair shows someone confident and happy in themselves. Who really doesn’t care for narrow minded persons.
I’ve always found confident, happy people a joy to know, with interesting lives.

Hawkins001 · 22/12/2020 00:10

It's your hair, style it how you choose

Mamanyt · 22/12/2020 00:11

You do you, and let DH do him. And tell him, next time he wants to do ANYTHING, AT ALL, "You've had your time...before I had mine, BTW."

Celestine70 · 22/12/2020 00:15

He doesn't want you attracting interest.

MaitlandGirl · 22/12/2020 00:22

I’m 45 with pink and purple striped hair - pretty certain there wasn’t an age restriction on the bottles when I bought them.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 22/12/2020 00:24

Was it ‘Alas, you’ve had your time?’

Blimey. It’s a lovely colour. Go for it and frankly your OH is talking nonsense

DoubleDessertPlease · 22/12/2020 00:25

Fab colour. Hope you’ve bought him some corduroy slippers and a pipe for Christmas.

Slightlyunhinged · 22/12/2020 00:25

60 here with bright pink streaks. Go for it, I love that dark plum colour!

Peahead10 · 22/12/2020 00:28

I'm 44 and this year been red, blonde, pink, blue and brunette. Do what you want. You definitely have not had your time.

DinosaurFarmer · 22/12/2020 01:54

I'm 48 and my hair is currently purple and I've had lots of positive comments about it.

gumball37 · 22/12/2020 04:03

I'm 39 and currently have a mohawk. Fuck what anyone else thinks

Mrscaptainraymondholt · 22/12/2020 05:14

48 with bright red hair (think Sally from nightmare before Xmas) and I hold a sensible job, have kids etc..... it’s only hair! It can be whatever colour and style you want!

Does he also comment on what you wear?

Happynow001 · 22/12/2020 05:18

You look wonderful with that hair colour OP - I'm very envious as, sadly it wouldn't suit me! If it did, however, I'd be there - and I'm much older than 37.

I wonder if your DH doesn't prefer you a "safer" colour as that might attract less admiration from others?

Anyway it's your hair - go for it! 🌹

DENGREEN · 22/12/2020 05:39

I think it was a nasty comment, actually.

Ddot · 22/12/2020 07:19

Life is far too short, no! Youth is far too short so don't jump into the big knickers too soon. Dye your bloody hair right now, now, now, now. Do what makes you happy, it's nothing you can't change. Iam going to wear my short skirt today, with thick tights of course, and I will pop my clogs being the best funky me possible. I decided to get the top of my ear pierced last year but iam sorry to say i was a chicken, found a great alternative, an ear cuff. If it will make you happy go do it. Merry Christmas

FlorenceinSummer · 22/12/2020 07:36

40+ here and currently got blue hair, I started out in my 20s using that plum colour, did natural in my 30s and now doing whatever colour I feel like 😁 Go for it!

EngelbertsRumpispink · 22/12/2020 07:37

Loving that colour!

The other day, I told DH that I'm going to do my hair
in plum or teal; I just can't decide which. I'm 59.
My lovely husband said that either one would be good.

I have naturally auburn hair, but it is getting v gray...
I have never coloured my hair ever in my life.
But imma do it now.

Perhaps your DH is afraid that you will look too good.
He doesn't want other blokes checkin' you out. Smile
