‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF

Hello!

Back story

When I met my now husband in 2013 I had a dark plum red hair colour ( will try to attach a pic ) around 2017 I dropped it to black then brown and now with the new year coming in feeling inspired to lose some weight and bring back that colour ..

I told him this morning over breakfast and he responded with ‘ you have had your time ‘ ... I’m 37.

Is there some kind of unsaid fashion rule regarding hair colours and age //.

Is that how he sees me ?! As someone who has had their time !!! I’m
Younger than him !

Change you hair to whatever colour you like. Change your husband for one who's not so stuffy.

Totaldogsbody · 21/12/2020 17:52

Love a well done plum colour. You could always dye it bright blue and tell him as you've had your time you thought a wee blue rinse was in order.

FuckYouCorona · 21/12/2020 17:52

He's crazy. I'm almost 50 & have bluey/green hair currently. Yesterday I spoke to a friend of well in her 70's with purple hair. Grandad needs to lighten up. Maybe his hair lol. Grin

Iamthedevilinthedetail · 21/12/2020 17:53

As I have aged, I'm now 60, I have found that my hair quality changed. It's lovely, thick and long, but it's not the same as it was when I was younger. I could see that perhaps it would not take the treatment it used to get - but the change came after menopause, not around 37! DH is a twit.

Carpedimum · 21/12/2020 17:54

Ignore anyone and everyone who tells you that you can’t do something because of your age or anything else for that matter, absolute bollocks. Live your life.

somthinginthewoodshed · 21/12/2020 17:54

My lovely pal is 72 and she has plum coloured hair. Go for it and don’t be put off!

Amiable · 21/12/2020 17:55

I'm 50 and my green hair has just faded. Thinking of going purple next...

Middersweekly · 21/12/2020 17:55

How rude of your DH! You’re by no means old and even if you were there’s no age limit on hair. We are the same age and I’ve been blonde for most of my adult life. A few months ago I went a light chestnut 🌰 colour and I’m egging myself on to be even more ginger! It looks so good I don’t know why I didn’t do it years ago!

Sandy10 · 21/12/2020 17:56

Exactly!

medwench · 21/12/2020 17:57

So, on the one hand, it's your hair choose any colour you like. BUT, do remember that our skin tones change as we age and what suited you before may not look as good now. Maybe worth getting a stylist to go through options with you before you take the plunge again just to make sure it makes you feel as fabulous as you remember...

Davespecifico · 21/12/2020 17:58

That was either very rude of him if he isn’t very good at expressing himself without being offensive.

CallmeBadJanet · 21/12/2020 17:59

@Glitterzzz You can wear your hair any colour, at any age. It’s your hair, your choice. However, in other news, your husband is an old fashioned, narrow minded, controlling knob jockey.

whycantweallbemoretolerant · 21/12/2020 18:01

It's so blindingly obvious that at 37 you're IN your prime, I suspect he's feeling a bit down in the dumps about HIS age - because he is past his prime.
Do what you want with your hair, but try too to encourage him to join you on the journey towards middle age.
BTW - I LOVE that burgundy 👍😁

Limzo · 21/12/2020 18:02

Well, had you said the same thing to him, he would have been really hurt! I think you need to have a word with him and explain how insensitive that was.

Next time he wants sex, just respond with, "I've had my time...and it wasn't very good. No thank you."

Or

"You've had your time"

purplebunny2012 · 21/12/2020 18:03

@M0rT

Your DP can't be telling you it doesn't suit you as you look great in that pic! Maybe he is just very conservative/maybe he is insecure. Either way it's his issue to deal with....buy a box or get on the list for a hairdressers appointment and go for it! Also *@CaptainSandy* can I ask how you got your hair that colour? Was it the hairdresser? I have naturally dark hair with some grey and I went through three different box dyes trying to get blue hair last year. They all just turned my grey black and didn't change the black hair at all. I have up and starting putting red in instead, but I would love blue hair!
You have to bleach your hair first. You can't put blue dye on dark hair
clpsmum · 21/12/2020 18:03

I'm 44 and my hair has been pink and purple this year!!

PIKNIK20 · 21/12/2020 18:03

You shouldn't even be asking this question here. I am 67 and I died my hair in the rainbow colours. I think you get more confident with age and more confident that it is nobody's business what colour hair you should have. I do hope it doesn't take you another 30 years to come to that conclusion. Down with the patriarchy!

LucyWF · 21/12/2020 18:07

I’m 47, he must think I am ready for my coffin!!

‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF
Sarels · 21/12/2020 18:11

Your hair looks gorgous colour ... your still young I have no idea why your husband would think you've had your time ... be your own person and its your hair so for me I would be doing my hair how I want it till the day I no longer breathe !

LokiDoki75 · 21/12/2020 18:15

I'm 45 and have what I think they call a balayage(?) except mine turns from dark brown to rainbow colours. I saw what my my natural hair colour is doing these days for the first time in years over the first lockdown and as far as I'm concerned it's going to be a long time before I'm ready for another reunion Grin.

Glitterzzz · 21/12/2020 18:16
